1. I've rather wait all day at home with food in the frig, water, bathroom, TV, Etc nearby
There's a lot more food at the mall, and definitely bathrooms and stuff. Heck, last time I did one of these things Starbucks went down the line taking orders. And free wifi if I wanted to stream some TV shows or movies (but I'll probably just read and talk to people).

2. Unknown what the weather will be like on the 16th. At home I do.
It's guaranteed that the weather inside the mall will be toasty :)

3. Guaranteed at the store ? Maybe, maybe not. No guarantees depending how far back you are inline, and how many the store actually got in.
If you preordered with a credit card with store delivery, yours should be guaranteed. If you're a walk-in, it isn't.

Good luck standing in line...Make sure you bring a taser. Those scalpers are nasty and you just gotta use the taser on them to keep them in check.

However, not all stores are inside, like the Best Buy ones that I know of. So outside you are. Leaving the line to go to the bathroom might work if the guys next to you will hold your place, but that is still a toss up for some wackos out there.

Vape

Volcano is where it's at brotha!!!

You plan to camp out for a new iPad even though you can pre-order one and get it delivered on the 16th by 10am? And hang out with your friends in a queue?

Really? Seriously...really?

My suggestion is to pre-order one, then wait until the 16th at 10am when yours arrives at your home, have a 12 pack in the frig or some chronic in the vaporizer and invite your friends over for beer or weed and ipad fun.

It is 2012 and waiting in line for a piece of consumer electronics is so 2007.

Hey man not always I was first for the IPad 2 in Lincoln Nebraska at the Best Buy, went on sale 5pm I started my camp at 3am....over shot it could of went at 11am an been fine,

I went to a local phone store for the iphone 4 launch and wouldn't do it again but it was quite a fun experience, there wasn't many of us there though. What I will tell you though is that no matter how early you get there, somebody will always be there first!

Oh my word whatever next?

I know, you and your friends should hold a gathering whilst you are camping out and make a ritual sacrifice.

Seriously though I wouldn't be doing that, my nice warm bed then up bright and early off to the shops.

Really??!!

So getting punched, kicked, and choked don't sound like too much fun either but does that mean UFC fighters should do something different with their lives?
How about they start talking crap on computers and rain on ppls day....that's a pretty productive thing to do with a life.

If camping out for a piece of electronics is fun, you got a really ****ed up idea of fun. Do something with your life.

I don't camp out, but I will come early a few hours on some sales. Get to meet random people, it's nice.

That said, pre-ordered to the store. I'll walk in when I can get some time off, or at the end of the day.

Maybe I'll be nice and stop by in the morning, and see how the lines are.

Sometimes it's nice to "camp out" and meet like minded people. I camped out for 12 hours one day to get into a concert that was open seating--wanted to make sure I got the best seats possible. The concert was fun, and we got good seats, but the better part of it was the cool people I got to talk to during the day and hanging out with some old friends too.

But the downside to camping out for Apple stuff when they offered a pre-order is that a) you're camping out at night in what is usually an uncomfortable situation and b) you're not going to get one just because you camped out. They may not have enough.

So if you didn't put in a pre-order, and then you camp out to get an iPad and don't get one, at that point it's been a week since the pre-order started and you're probably looking at some serious wait times for your order to ship.

Camping out can be fun if you have friends to do it with. I would be doing it too if I wasn't going to be out of state on the 16th. You meet a lot of cool people, and it's just a fun experience. Why bother going out camping in the woods? I mean there's no benefit there really, aside the experience and getting away. Camping out for the iPad, you get to meet a lot of cool people. And if you even just make one new friend, that's someone you wouldn't have had in your life if you just pre-ordered.

I pre order 4 hours after the event an got email confirmation that it was shipped from China today. It says 3/16 delivery but I'm counting on an early delivery!!!

I'd love to respond to all of you individually, but most of you bore me, so there's no point. The gist of things is this; if you don't think camping out in a line full of Apple fanboys is fun, than you're obviously not an Apple fanboy(I am, so that's why it sounds appealing to me). Sure, pre-orders are nice and all, but the feeling of stepping inside of an Apple store and picking up a device is so much better than getting it shipped to your door(you have to admit the truth behind that), and driving home with it sitting next to you is a great feeling(because I'm a geek). Plus, if I go in and wait in line, I can have it at 9AM, where all the rest of you will get yours in the afternoon(at least where I live), and I would be waiting around biting my nails that long, waiting for a product that I could have already been enjoying for hours. If you don't understand that, than you're not true geeks(which could almost be taken as an insult in some cases).
Cheerio.

I won't knock you for going out and hanging with your boys all the while waiting for something you want!

I think people camping out for Apple products goes to show what the brand means to people here in the United States, and across the world.

Have fun sir.

Reading over these posts I completely agree with the ones that say its an experience to camp out for the new iPad, I plan on going with one of my friends, we plan on getting to the mall at 12AM and camping out until they open the one entrance they do when they do apple launches. She isn't buying an iPad, just wanted to come with. Also looking forward to meeting people there
