You have no idea about the technical issues you are referring to. There are tons of silicon CPUs running at speeds greater than 4ghz

With dry ice perhaps. Point me an architecture that doesn't fry itself at a clock higher than 4-5GHz without special cooling, though?

Yes, but these phones have parts that stick out. The Motorola RAZR might be thinner at its thinnest point, but it is thicker at the thickest point. Also the headphone jack is at the thicker part.

I'm not talking about the Motorola Razr, I'm talking about other Android phones that are much thinner than the iPhone 5 bar nothing. From Apple's website, the iPhone 5 is 7.6 mm thick, but there are Android phones that have already been out on the market since the beginning of this year that are thinner than 7.6 mm throughout the length of the body:

For example, the Oppo Finder:

Oppo-Finder.jpg

Then we spotted Oppo Finder all the way from China which measures a thickness of 6.65 mm.

It was clearly false advertising by Apple.

The only problem is, how smart is it and the god damn battery life. Apple should've said: the thinnest smartphone of its class, or the thinnest true smartphone LOL

That page says it's not available yet? From what I can tell it hasn't been released. Apple's product is shipping now.

Fair enough, but my question still stands. Can this phone become thinner and still have the headphone jack?

Also good point, none of these phone are even out yet? So technically Apple is correct?

There are thinner phones than the iPhone out there, so yes it can get thinner.

Geez, all of the phones have been for sale for months. Stop trying to grasp at non-existent straws. You could have bought the Oppo Finder back in June/July of this year. The iPhone 5 isn't even for sale in many countries.

Grasp at non-existent straws? Relax dude, just looking for clarification around if the product shipped yet.

The 3.5mm will disappear in the same way as the optical disk is on its way out.

Integration into the lightning plug might not happen as the manufacturer would need to join a license agreement to use the new plug (I assume). Plus it would be limited to Apple eco system only. An open standard like BT seams more feasible.

But of course BT need to get better; in a crowded environment I still get many drop-outs. Not funny to use (with my Motorola SD9). the next 5 years we still have the jack; the size of battery and screen will leave enough space for it.

BT seems like a good idea, but there are reasons why people don't buy BT headphones now. Like another thing to charge, bigger, and more expensive.

Ivy and Sandy Bridge both clock up to 3.9ghz in a stock config. Plenty of people are running 4ghz+ on air/stock cooling.

There were some phones made by Sony etc. that used a smaller version of 3.5mm plug. The 2 sockets are electrically identical, and an adapter is needed to plug in your 3.5mm earphones. So Apple may well change to that plug 2 years later. But god knows if they will include the adapters free or charge $19 or $29? Anyway third party adapters are everywhere.

Battery life is the biggest concern.

I'm not a huge fan of the squared off design. Thinner is always better, but too thin may cause issues with breakage and room for innards. Although I am happy with the improvements of the 5 vs. 4/4S overall, I was really hoping to see a design more like a mini iPad or a slimmed down 3GS. Just my preference.

These other smart phones (such as Oppo Finder) all have nubs that stick out beyond the thickness of the iPhone. You can't measure the thinnest point and say its thinner than the thicker point. Look at Oppo Finder camera...

I'm not sure how does a design more like a mini iPad look like. But I do welcome that the next iPhone will be a slimmed down 3GS.

Like this:

The thickness at the "nub" of the Oppo Finder is still thinner than the iPhone.

It just a matter of time, but would you want to carry a paper-thin phone that can cut ur hands? ;)

I'd prefer they stop worrying about how thin the phone is and start worrying about battery life a bit more.

Exactly! I find the iPhone 4S difficult and uncomfortable to hold due to it's thinness. I can't imagine the 5. I would prefer battery life to thinness. It's not like people were going around claiming the 4S was too thick!

They could make it thinner by getting rid of the head phone jack all together and make people plug their headphones in through the Lightning connector, with a free adapter that comes in the box, of course.

Take the thin phones and shove it.. I want the iphone 4S thickness, and a beefier longer lasting battery for the iphone 5S. That won't happen however, since Apple probably will not go back. iPhone 4S had a good weight to it. ;)

Apple doesnt always make the next product thinner. The iPad 3 for instance was thicker then the iPad 2

Yep welcome to the iphone 5S, this year we are improving the new iphone by, making it a little thicker with a bigger battery and more structural support, I know amazing, why didnt we think of that with the 5?

Reference? AFAIK, the camera hump is thicker than the iPhone 5.

I reference CNN:

8053268400_d6b3f229c6_o.jpg

CNN has provided the lastest Apple’s iPhone 5 for some comparison. During the iPhone 5 announcment event, Apple was calling their new handset the world’s thinnest smartphone, measured at 7.6mm thick. Well, it showed that Apple has not done too much homework on this. Chinese manufacturer OPPO has their flagship smartphone measured at 6.65 millimeters thin, that is about 1mm thinner than the iPhone 5. While we were on the CNN show, we have shown and present how thin is the Chinese Android phone while comparing to the iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 is a porker by comparison.
