I'm thinking of going for a 64GB 6S. My issue is this. I'd like one with the Samsung 14nm FinFET SoC than than the TSMC 16nm one.
Is there are an easy way to find out which phone has which. Ideally, I'd like to know this based on the serial number.

Have you been without internet for the last 3 days?

There are dozens os discussions about this, including in this forum, precisely because the TSMC is showing around 15% more battery per full charge than the Samsung one.

Answering your question...No it's not possible to know by serial.

Seriously? There's about 19 other threads already covering this...

And no, you can't find out from the serial number.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Next time understand that context is everything.
In any case it was expected that the Samung manufactured SoCs would be better than the TSMC ones. Based on size and 14nm vs 16nm lithography. But this has not turned out be the case. And we only know this for sure since today. http://www.anandtech.com/show/9708/analyzing-apple-statement-for-tsmc-and-samsung-a9

No the lowest form of whit is starting YET ANOTHER chip thread when there are no less than half a dozen you could've posted in- and one 2-3 dozen pages long that tells you every way to determine what chip you have.

It's only 15% if your editing 4K video non stop. And by that I mean constantly without stopping. Or running benchmarks. Real world difference is 2%.

Just download the system status app from the app store. It's free and safe to use. Open app > tap the details icon at the bottom > look under Device Information > type

N66mAP = TSMC
N66AP = Samsung
what is the name of the app you are using here?

edit --- I found the app but it is a paid app now.

That's a very good article. It comes to no conclusions other than its impossible to come to a conclusive conclusion at this time. :D But at least they explain why and it's very informative to a non-technically inclined person like me.

I posted in here earlier how you can find out without any app, if you like. Look in the low battery log file.

But i can' t find a low battery log file in the settings with my iphone 6 or ipad air 2.in diagnostics.

I used the app Lirum Info Lite and I have N71AP so which one is that because I'm confused now because I have seen people say it was Samsung and others say it was TSMC

Either way after getting 3 replacements for other faults I am more than happy with this phone because it doesn't have anything loose or clicking and the screen is perfect. Now if they could get the software sorted out so that the phone is smooth and not stuttering I will be very happy.

Just download GeekBench and check the Motherboard info :)
If you're scared to download an app, then you can open the iPhone itself, but there goes your warranty and you might ruin the phone.

The funny thing is I had a Space Gray TSMC iPhone 6S, but wanted the silver. I exchanged it at Apple and checked again and I have TSMC again. What's weird is I didn't gain superpowers or an iPhone 7???

OK I originally made a video showing how to determine the A9 CPU (Samsung or TSMC) but it seems Apple may have purposely not reveal the actual manufacturer. A better method was revealed and I have updated and made a new video showing how to force the Hardware Model in a new video. This one is 100% accurate. You don't need to download any software or jailbreak.

I'd like to know which chip is inside my iPhone 6s Plus - TSMC or Samsung? Is there anyway I can say which one I have just by checking the serial number or IMEI number of the phone? I don't want to install any 3rd party software to do this.
Get Battery Memory System Status Monitor from the App Store. It is a free app and tells you if it's tsmc or Samsung.

People can also download an app to their mac without even activating the phone.
