They never state battery life. This is nothing new.
They stated the battery life for video playback for the 17, the 17pro and the air with the battery case attached, iirc. Whoch makes the 17 and pro compareable to other devices - the air not so much (although that data will appear on their homepage soon)

Are you serious?

Air: it’s thin and light
Pro: new colours and better battery life

Most underwhelming event i remember
Indeed I am , dare I say it when you compare the air to the galaxy edge the air is miles ahead in terms of engineering.
The pro with a uni body aluminium design and bigger battery.
The next 5 years and beyond for apple looking amazing

They are heavy compared to the top end Android models.
That may factually be true. I know my Pixel 3a XL weighs considerably less than my 11 Pro Max. But what may be heavy to one person, may be perceived as something different to another. I wouldn't want a phone that weighs any less that my Pixel or 11 PM.

I like something with a 'solid' heft in my hand. But others do not. Hence the Air, and Apple providing for both types of customers.

It's Samsung Galaxy Edge. Nobody knows why it exists
Some of us want to carry around less phone. Today’s phones are bricks compared to the iPhone 6/7 days

I almost exclusively use the main camera on my iPhone, the others were always compromised on sensor size/aperture anyway and didn’t seem to give very good results

The Air is the best and most essential bits of a phone distilled into the lightest package possible, in a premium build. Sounds good to me, though I weep at the thought of going back to a single speaker :/

Who said that? Nobody did. And the original MacBook Air was horrible and not worth the price.
Apple copied Samsung Galaxy Edge. That's it. Nobody needs Edge either.
People have been complaining about the thinness of some Apple products for years.

It is now one of the most popular computers Apple offers.

I don't care about Samsung or Android whatsoever, but good for you bringing it up.

Looking at the specs, the trade off seems to be battery life + camera zoom for 1.3oz of weight. I am debating the air vs the Pro because I I like my 15 Pro weight - 6.6 oz. The air is a little less than 6oz and the 17 Pro is listed as 7.2 oz.

In a weird way, it gives me iPod nano vibes which I like.
I don't know that I'm getting one but they're all kinda cool this year

iP17 - weak colors overall, remarkably weak.. except green looks cool, the black looks even more faded ugh.
But 120hz/AOD/better battery 6.3 and bezels. Pretty much a better iP16Pro in every way at $200 cheaper than last year's offerings. Hope they've addressed battery life bc it wasn't pretty in my limited testing with 16Pro. That's one of the main reasons I got rid of mine within the return policy.

Air - the value prop was already shown, it's thin and 'new model' and plus model on a diet with faster screen. And supposedly strongest. But if you dont care about any of that, you can stay put or move up/down the upgrade latter from this middle ground pricing wise (negating 16e existing in this take)

iP17Pro - seems to address thermal throttling, but I wonder if people are going to like going from SS-Ti-aloominum again. Nice cameras and yea yea, but I dunno the gap seems less wide between 17 and Air and the Pro counterparts, from what we've seen marketing wise. Unless you're really into mobile gaming or making a full feature film on your phone. I kid but. I thought between 16 and 16Pro's the gap narrowed quite a lot, but here even more.

The takeaway for me is non-pro's are even more compelling this year. The pro does look nice though, and I dont know how orange would settle with me over time, but I appreciate the boldness. Weird that black pro models got nothing! it's white blue or orange. But I like seeing the bleu return. And I personally think aluminum is probably going to be the right choice, SS looked cool but was prohibitively heavy, and I dunno the titanium never really felt all that premium to me lighter than SS but not aluminum light and you feel that in hand.

my quick reaction always subject to change.

Because some people have a real problem with perceived weight. The Pro and particularly the Pro Max models are seen as heavy.

And they are willing to sacrifice battery life to get 'lite'.
From apple iphone comparision site the video playback time is same as the 16 pro. Thats better than expected.
The weight on the other side is not that impressive. Its just 5 grams lighter than the 16. the 12 was 1 gram lighter than the Air.

I don’t really understand why it exists? Kind of a middle ground between 17 and 17 Pro? Instead of the 17 plus I guess? I just don’t get it.
It fits into the Tim Cook distraction-universe so that you see the 'innovative' Air and don't realize that the 17 and 17 Pro Max are the 6th iterations of the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max along with the fact that the iPhone Fold won't be out for another year.

It's a test bed for the tech they want to use in next year's folding phone.
It’s exactly this. They pushed their design and engineering teams to make something this thin and light which will help them carry the technologies forward on to the foldable. But in the process they might as well make a new product. The Mini and the Plus never really sold as well as the base models or the Pro Max. Lots of people complain about the weight of newer devices.

If they make a flip style foldable down the road, this would be an incredible size.
