From apple iphone comparision site the video playback time is same as the 16 pro. Thats better than expected.
The weight on the other side is not that impressive. Its just 5 grams lighter than the 16. the 12 was 1 gram lighter than the Air.

I think that’s pretty decent considering it has a larger screen than either of those.

That space has been a random spot for years now. They just throw every random thing they have on that wall and just see what sticks. First the mini, then the plus now the air.

I agree. I think they need to make 3 phones - mini, regular, max. All the same features aside from battery because obviously you can’t get the same battery life in a mini as a max. But then again, I don’t make the big bucks. 🤣

How would the iPhone Air camera compare to my iPhone 15 base model?

My iPhone 15 camera mostly meets my needs. I've noticed the zoom in isn't the greatest but I don't take many pictures.
Bigger screen 6.5 inches
120 hz screen
Only one camera but has the fancy software to do a crop zoom
A19 pro chip so super fast

  • No stereo speakers
  • No cinematic mode
  • No time lapse
  • No wide-angle shots
  • No macro photography
  • No adaptive True Tone flash
  • No 4K slow-mo
  • No mmWave
No thanks.

I noticed that the Dynamic Island seems to sit lower down. If this is the case why? Instead of trying to slim it down and get rid of it they keep it the same and on top of that lower it down. I don’t know how that helps or benefits the user it being lower.

The camera is also on the left part of the Dynamic Island instead of the right

There's obviously a lot of contention for componentry space, given everything is stuffed into the "plateau". The plateau also has a gradual increase in depth, so maybe there wasn't enough depth available closer to the edge of the device.

I think Apple made a mistake not offering the Air with 128GB for $849 to attract a few more buyers.

Given the single rear lens, I'm not sure most users would fill up 256GB.

It’s exactly this. They pushed their design and engineering teams to make something this thin and light which will help them carry the technologies forward on to the foldable. But in the process they might as well make a new product. The Mini and the Plus never really sold as well as the base models or the Pro Max. Lots of people complain about the weight of newer devices.

If they make a flip style foldable down the road, this would be an incredible size.
See this makes sense! Thank you

Why would number of lenses imply number of photos taken? The idea that Air users will take fewer photos than iPhone 17 users because they have fewer lenses doesn't strike me as an obvious conclusion. Photos taken by that single lens take up the same amount of storage space as photos taken by the two-lens iPhone 17.

I suspect most people's storage use is cumulative over many years of using an iPhone. Most people don't buy a new phone and proceed to fill it up from 0% to 100% via photos taken on that device. Most users bring XGB of data accumulated over the years, and then use an additional YGB of data by accumulating new data during the ownership period. So I bet a majority of users' storage use is preordained at purchase, only to marginally increase over the ownership period.

When I look at the Air, I see it as the ultimate social media phone. Light in the hand, big screen, great front camera, and a good enough back camera.

It's not for photographers or film-makers. They have the Pro and Pro Max.

I think heavy social media users (and certainly influencers) consider themselves photographers/videographers, so they would probably convince themselves that they need all the cameras they can get.

I think the Air and standard 17 are great for anyone who doesn't need to work too hard to convince themselves that they are a photographer/videographer or gamer.

It's my own hypothesis. After using an ultrawide lens since iPhone 11, it's not something I'd want to live without. Anybody who knows how to use an iPhone camera should recognize the UW lens enables shots that were previously impossible, whether it's indoor shots or just taking macro photos get get more detail.

Serious question, what makes Air the ultimate device rather than 16e?

Reminds me of the iPhone 6. Can’t wait to hear about bendgate 2.0. But in all seriousness, this is the future test of apples upcoming devices. Sandwich two of them and you get a folding phone. One side will have cameras and logic boards the other side will have all battery.

Next they’ll upgrade the camera to pro cameras.

Ah yes, that's right. Anyone who "knowns how to use an iPhone camera" shouldn't want the Air. Says JPack of MacRumors Forums.

We get it, you don't want an Air. Let the rest of us make our own decisions. We don't all agree with you, despite what you appear to think.
