Can we all agree that if you have an iPhone 5 there's no real reason to get the 5s?

Can we all agree that this upgrade isn't meant for the manority of iPhone 5 owners still locked into 2-year contacts and that the Debbie Downers / Haters need to keep their mouths shut until next year?

Indeed, that's the point of this thread? Discussing that point?

EDIT: I see you have now edited your post

Nobody is locked in to a 2 year contract, there are options, ya know?

No for me my reasons are 1, i will be giving my 5 to my son and getting a 5S. My other reasons are:
1. Fingerprint sensor, my phone is a business phone used alot for calls, will be good to just touch the home button and go staight to home page. Not push button, swipe, passcode.
2. Better camera hopefully which i use for work.
3. May as well get one now as the next iPhone will be bigger and i don't want anything bigger. Have a ipad for that.

I've got the iPhone 5 and of course am only midway through my contract right now A friend has the 4S and is eagerly looking forward to getting the new iPhone 5S.....I'm happy and excited for her and while I'm a wee bit envious, too, in the meantime I shall just appreciate the new iPhone 5S in her hands and look forward to next year when it will be my turn again.

I'm getting the 5s from the 5, know why? Because then I'll be LOSING money if I don't. Every year I upgrade from the previous generation to the current by selling my old one and paying for the new. I always get more for my phone than what I previously paid for it so I actually make money. If I were to wait, then I lose a nice chunk of change because now it's two year old technology.

So it's a double-win. I get the new phone for free (plus some extra spending money) and I am always using the current generation. To be honest, the specs don't matter to me because I'm going to sell and upgrade so I don't lose money.

Can you explain to me how you make $ *every* year? iPhone 5 trade-ins are around $330 where I look. iPhone 5s is $199.. but with a 2 year contract. Wouldn't you have to pay the retail price every other year since you are not up for an upgrade? Retail is $650. Please tell me if I am not considering another option...

I'm on a family plan with people who rarely upgrade. I just cross-upgrade when mine is not up for that year. And I never trade-in my phone. I sell it via Craigslist and make a lot more money than those trade-in offers.

I absolutely had to get an iPhone 5s because I was duped in January and have been on a 3G iPhone 5 for a year that is locked onto a carrier and cannot be unlocked.

It was my first time buying an iPhone and I made a mistake.

The 5s will be my last iPhone until the iPhone 7, 8, 9 or 10.

With this economy it is wise to wait for 6, I agree . If you have tons of money then wait a month for unlocked 5S and pay full price

I don't care about the 6 at this point. I'd rather wait until the iPhone 10.

No. Just because you think you're the decider of everyone's choices doesn't make it so. I have a 64GB iPhone 5 and I am upgrading to the 64GB iPhone 5s. Why? I'm in it for pure profit:

1: I can get more for my iPhone 5 than it would cost to buy a new 5s
2: It's faster and "more advanced". This part I don't really care about since I'll be making a profit selling my old iPhone 5
3: I can upgrade to the iPhone 6 next year for less than I'll sell my iPhone 5S for, thus...profit.

So I profit by upgrading on every level on every launch. Any questions?

No, because that's a silly comment (trying to be nice, would prefer a stronger word than silly).

Why would "we all agree" when it is just your personal opinion of your expected use?

The iPhone 5 is pretty crippled as a 4G device and it won't work at all with the LTE the majority of networks are rolling out in the UK (and Europe, if I read it correctly).

Can we all agree that if you have an iPhone 5 there is no real reason to get the 5S?

No, the 5S is a decent upgrade and a better device.

The fact that the 5S supports the relevant 4G bands for my network provider makes it an essential upgrade for me and many, many other people.

I'm upgrading since I have a 4s; If I had a 5 the only reason I'd upgrade would be for 128Gb.

Of course not. Read the other threads here. There are certainly those upgrading to the 5s from the 5. Why do you feel the need for agreement? Needs/wants vary from person to person just as on any other topic. Your poll is so flawed that I can't even answer it as it assumes that this is a universal matter. Use whatever works for you. You don't have to rely on others to justify your own decisions.

It's obviously fine just to want it, but I'm pretty sure that comes under "no real reason".
Subjective matter. Wanting is sufficient for many. It's not up to you or anyone else to determine what is or isn't a real reason. Each determines this for his/her self.

If real world usage isn't really that noticeable day to day is it really worth it?
Also subjective. Worth is always highly subjective. You seem to be assuming here that performance improvements are the only reason anyone would upgrade. That may be a popular primary bassi for comparison but there are plenty of other possible reasons as well.

Indeed, that's the point of this thread? Discussing that point?
So far the point seems to be your judgments on what are "real" reasons. Your real reasons are your real reasons. The next person's may be entirely different.

tl;dr - As others have stated, don't assume that your needs/wants are universal.

I have an upgrade available as I use both my upgrade and my wife's upgrade so I get a new iPhone each year and she gets my "hand me downs" which she is fine with.

So I am using my grade to get the 5S.

With what we get charged by the providers if you have an upgrade available and don't use it your giving them even more money since you are due that subsidy and you are not using it.

I've gotten every iPhone on launch day and this will be no exception. AT&T 5s Space Gray. Fingerprint sensor, A7, and camera are enough of a reason for me. Plus, that home button just looks sexy!

These reasons for me too. This is how my kids get upgrades. And I can still sell their 4s and make up a good chunk of the difference.

I had the iPhone 4. I'm getting the iPhone 5S because it will be my first real iPhone. The past few i've had, they have been off contract. :D

So I guess the fingerprint sensor, faster processor, better camera, and the fact that I want one are all fake reasons to upgrade?

It has and always will depend on your situation and what makes it worth it or not to you.

I personally only upgrade my phone every two years. I am coming from the 4S, so yeah, I'll be getting a 5s for sure!

But if there is something in the 5s that makes you really want it, well then it's your money. This shouldn't be a routine. It should be like any other purchase: if you want it, have the money for it, and think it is worth it, then just buy it.
