There is no shortage of videos and MR articles about the disappointment of Apple Intelligence, especially with the delay of smart Siri for an unknown date (maybe even after iOS19).

Does this mean iPhone 16 owners can return their phones on the grounds of having a key feature cancelled? I’m talking outside of the 14 day usual Apple Store return window..

Highly doubt it. Unless Apple introduces some special program, you won’t be able to return your iPhone outside of 14 days window just because of non-delivery of improved and personalised Siri. Hardware manufacturers don’t like users returning products due to poor software either unless things have become so bad that said hardware is rendered useless. Certainly iOS 18 without improved Siri can still be used just fine.

yet there will CERTAINLY be lawsuits and apple will have to address this debacle somehow
lol we will figure out what will happen as this fallout continues won't we?
Assuming everything goes as you believe, the customer in the end gets…what?

A $3 check in the mail?

It most certainly will not be a 'return' of the device and by association a full refund.

Or learn to wait buying a new iPhone when the features are available? Not that I am interested in Apple Intelligence but it seemed like a iPhone 17 feature to me anyway if it doesn't launch with the device. I would assume the other new features where worth it or else you could have continued to use the previous iPhone for a while.

There will be a lawsuit based on Apple changing its language for Siri, but not sure what the outcome will be. Obviously, the ad will also be included as evidence.

the only time I can remember Apple extending return windows for iPhones was with the iPhone 4 antennagate issue. Apple intelligence isn’t quite that big of a deal to me so I wouldn’t expect the same situation here.

I sort of lamented my decision to go with the iPhone 15 Plus when Apple Intelligence was first introduced at WWDC 24. I was ambivalent about AI all around, I can see its potential, but I can also see where it is fundamentally not as good as they want us to believe. It’s a moving target now in a lot of respects. I can always use ChatGPT, Claude, Co-Pilot or Gemini if initially want to do that. Of everything I see, Notebook LM is the most intriguing to me at the moment.

I will say that Apple is in a hard spot AI wise and skimping on DRAM and Storage to maximize their profit and margins seems to be really coming back to bite them hard. My 8GB M1 13” MacBook Pro still fits the bill along with my 24GB M2 13”, so I’m not left wanting on the Mac or iPad side, but this is going to be a make or break moment for Apple as Siri still sucks.
