Well, it's a mid 2012 macBook Pro 9,1 - as mentioned in the thread title above. Or are there sub-variants?
No, there is only one MacBook Pro 9,1, which supports RAM type 1600 MHz PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM SO-DIMMs (204-pin). If your RAM is compatible, it may work. The only way to know for sure is to try it.

Thanks @CheesePuff for digging this up - that thread relatively clearly states that it's very unlikely that it would work:

The Crucial memory you link is x16. They don't show that on the site but if you look up the comparable Micron specs (Micron/Crucial only have one 16GB DDR3 SO-DIMM that they sell), that's where it's mentioned. So MAYBE, if one of the other 16GB modules are x8, it could work. But I doubt that they are x8. (@treekram)

So the Challenge would be to find 16GB 600 MHz PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM SO-DIMMs (204-pin) that are x8 - and I have no Idea how to figure this out and to find two of these if they ever existed.
If someone still one day can recommend a working DIMM Model, I'm happy to restart this experiment.

Update: I tried finding an x8 Variant. The Mushkin MAR3S186DM16G28X2 seems to be one, but I can't really tell for sure.
