I can text and drive better than 90% of people can just drive. Most people shouldn't even have a license.

Typical answer of someone who will probably cause an accident while texting & driving.

I only text while idle at red light or idle in heavy traffic on the highway.

Less than 3% percent of the population can efficiently multitask while the rest seem to think they're in that special 3%. Saying whether you can do it is not the same as being able to do it efficiently without distracting yourself too much with one of the activities. It really should be illegal because of the fact it's a selfish act that risks others lives.

Since it is illegal to text & drive in the state of Washington I have really slowed down on testing & driving only because the police in my area are really on it.

That's like asking a drunk if they're okay driving. Of course they are going to say yes.

But yes, I can. :D

Yes, i can text and drive. I reply to ~10 emails on my Bold on my way home from work (1h drive).

I can text, call, do my makeup, read a book AND wipe my arse while driving.

/joke

On a serious note. I do text and drive. Mostly at a red. Or on a STRAIGHT road that is quiet. Agreed it is a stupid thing to do. But it's not as bad if you're not being a retard and composing a 3 page text

I'm very surprised at homy think it's ok to text/ drive!
I have done some at the lights, but really trying not to do it at all, it is not important enouph, it can wait...

Now, he might of meant it that way, but nowhere did he say he could text and drive well.

Just that he was better at that than most people are at driving. Which I could see.

People are scary. Where I live, we get real snow once every two years or so. I lost track of how many people I saw driving in the overcast evening with heavy (for us, maybe moderate to others) snow and no lights on.

Personally I like driving blindfolded facing backwards using ESP.

Judging by the 50 people who answered yes to the poll up to now, I'm a safer driver than many (or perhaps I have better taste in humor).

EDIT: From texting-while-driving.org (dark blue total ban; light blue novice driver ban; Texas also bans bus drivers):

We spent a lot of time on this in my psychology class. Bottom line is that even if you can get pretty good at it you will NEVER be as good at both things as if you were doing them separately. As soon as you start the second action of texting your brain is divided. Even if you are texting on a buttoned phone that you don't need to look at you are still thinking of what to type, how that person might react to what you do or don't type etc.

I'd like to point out that, while the graphic indicating which states ban texting-while-driving is *mostly* correct on a state level, several cities have their own bans in place. Case in point, Texas is listed as "novice ban," on the state level, but the City of Austin has an all-out ban (regardless of age; stop sign/traffic light is still okay) effective as of Jan 2010.
