The problem right now with Apple products in Canada is the exchange rate is the worst it's ever been, in my lifetime anyway, and so the products are becoming unaffordable. As the USD remains strong across the world, Apple's going to be selling fewer phones, fewer everything. They're better off doing what they did with Apple Music, which is subsidizing to reflect every market. You can get Apple Music in India for a couple dollars, but that's fair to their economy. I guarantee they'll make more profit short-term and long-term if all the phones were fairly priced per market. By subsidizing here in Canada anyway and keeping it at 649 CAD$, they'll still make 249 dollars profit (assuming it costs 300 USD to make the phone, or ~400$ CAD) on the base 16GB model that no one will buy anyway. Think about it, for every person that buys the new iPhone 6S this year, that number would probably double if the phone was priced at the same market as the Americans, and their revenue would be higher than selling just one at a higher price. Just business-wise the actuarial accountants at Apple did not do their homework. My girlfriend refuses to buy a new MacBook Pro to replace her aging PC, at 1549$ when she can get an equally equipped PC for 1100$. Now if the Pro was 1299 like in the US, the difference may be worth the upgrade to Mac. Apple is shooting themselves in the foot to make their margin, but low margin-high volume would *definitely* work better. I should send this to Tim Cook lol.
