So does anyone think if I cancel and re-order my MP that it might ship sooner than my current order that is to ship by Feb 25th and deliver on March 6th?

just checked and mine says "prepared for shipment" as well

does anyone know if there is much of a delay between the "prepared for shipment" stage and it being actually shipping? can we expect that they will be shipped tomorrow?

also, what's the verdict on "2 day shipping." it still estimates "receive by" date to be 7 days after the ship date as opposed to two...

it could be coincidence, but from people in this thread alone:

complained to apple and shipments are now being prepared (and were subsequently awarded free expedited shipping):
bigbird (january 10th)
me (january 20th)

didn't complain to apple (and shipment hasn't been prepped):
lutron3000 (january 8th)

hmmm start complaining!

Ok, called Apple and grumped at them for the delay. That got me bumped up from standard shipping to expedited. That reduces the delivery time by 5 days on my order - might be worth it for others to do that as well.
Not to pick on you personally, but this is about the fifteenth time I have read in these threads about someone doing this and I think it sucks.

Doesn't anyone have any pride or moral fibre anymore? Calling up to complain about something that Apple hasn't actually done wrong, knowing that they will give you a prezzie just to shut you up?
Jeez!

If you are wondering what's immoral about it, I will spell it out.

People who do this are complaining that even though Apple has not broken any promises or shipping agreements, that they have been "misleading" in their presentations. They also think Apple has been "unfair" to ship to others sooner than they have to them, even though again, Apple has broken no promises and not actually misrepresented anything.

So they turn around and misrepresent themselves to Apple, so that they can get an unfair advantage over the other folks also waiting?

Again, not meant to pick on you personally, but it just shocks me that so many people are doing this, and so casually as well.

I'm going to assume our MP's are made in China, a suburb of Shanghai to be specific. Since the Chinese work 6 days a week, that explains why on Saturday they became ready for shipment. Tonight in N. America is Monday morning in China. I think that this evening we'll see our MP's as being shipped.

I'm not sure how 2 day shipping becomes 7 days on the order. In the past when I've ordered Apple stuff (Performa 6400, iMac G4) they've shipped from China, gone to Alaska, then to Nashville, and then to my city in Canada. This has generally taken 4-5 business days by regular shipping. It'll be interesting to see how expedited shipping is different.

Make sure and get your extra RAM from CanadaRam on the island. Great service and cheapest in Canada. However, you'll have to pay PST being in BC.
Wow, that's the worst looking website I have seen in a while. Confusing too. Won't be ordering anything from them.

i'm sorry that you feel this way... but i fail to see how this can be labeled as an "unfair advantage." you're making it out o be as if this is some sort of competition. if anything the unfairness stems from apple shipping late orders sooner than those who ordered early. i just happened to be on the lucky side of things.

apple has a customer service system implemented to do just that - satisfy the customer. it's a pity that the way it is set up positively reinforces this "behavior" but it's not like they could reward those who didn't call and complain. that would just be ridiculous. that's not how free enterprise works in north america. the customer is always right and that's the rules apple plays by. in turn it makes the company gads of money. not to mention that the difference in price between standard and expedited shipping (which they are already paying pennies on a dollar for anyway with their contract with fedex) is easily an oversight. don't be bitter because you feel too bold calling and requesting faster shipping.

I see your logic and would tend to agree except one thing. Put it in this light...I go to a well known high quality restaurant and order their finest steak. The waiter states that they only serve the freshest meat and it will take some time to prepare...approximate wait time 45 minutes. Not happy but understand. 10 minutes later, in comes some more customers who sit down in the surrounding tables and orders the same steaks. They are served immediately. By the time I receive my steak, (approximately 45 minutes) they are finishing theirs. No promises broken... Hmmm, I think I would not be happy! And, I am a patient man!

What? Basing your purchase on their website interface rather than their price and reputation? Why don't you just phone them at their toll free number? They answer the phone immediately and do know what they're talking about. I can't say the same for OWC in the US.

Why am I even responding to this? I have nothing to do with CanadaRam. I used them twice, got excellent service and product. I recommended them to those in Canada that need to buy MP RAM.

Virgil, let us know where you get your RAM. Maybe you'll find a nicer looking website and cheaper price for quality RAM in Canada.

Man, you didn't actually read anything I said did you? :)

Your reply just amounts to the standard response given by anyone caught doing something that they kinda know they shouldn't be doing, or isn't *quite* being honest.

In a nutshell (paraphrasing), you said:

- "They were unfair first!" (wah!)
- "That's how the world is." (presumably with a shrug for emphasis)
- "They are a big corporation, so it's okay." (a la Homer Simpson)
- "It doesn't cost them anything." (the refuge of scoundrels!)

In any case, this is a minor point and has probably already received more attention than it actually deserves. I don't think you can argue that you are behaving in any kind of moral or "cool" way if you are one of those people phoning up just to complain and get your free prezzie (quicker shipping.)

Anyway, my advice to people is always to do whatever you want, but always be honest with yourself about what you are doing.

I paid the same big bucks (less actually, with my educational discount) for a new MP as you did. If you're getting your new MP weeks sooner than I am, after ordering weeks later than I did, I'd be pissed too. That's why I phoned, inquired as to why the shipping time discrepancy, and the service agent politely offered to expedite my shipping. Those who don't ask usually don't receive. No moral issues for me, just good business sense.

"caught doing something i kinda know i shouldn't be doing?"
where in my post did i even make reference to feeling like i should not be doing this? i explicitly said this is how it is and i 100% feel that i am entitled to free shipping if they are willing to award it. not to mention that i didn't even need to request it, i simply called, politely asked the status of my order and they upgraded me. but that is besides the point - even if i did call and unreasonably chewed the person out, i still would be in the right, because you know what? i am still the customer.

and yes, i did read you post. but in a nutshell it all boils down to you and I (along with many others here) falling on separate sides of the fence when it comes to this "moral" decision. but what i am telling you is not to complain to us about being so surprised and mortified that we would do such a thing when it all comes down to your opinion vs. ours.

contrary to popular belief the meek shall not inherit the earth and the squeeky wheel gets the attention. "That's how the world is." *shrugs for emphasis while sitting behind new octa core mac pro*

I ordered one on January 16th. Ships by February 22nd and arrives by March 5th. Anyone getting RAM in canada know where to get the best deal and also, know where to get a good monitor? I sort of want to get the ram and monitor at the same place to save on shipping.

I did a LOT of research and ended up ordering from www.CanadaRam.com in Victoria. CanadaRam gives free shipping on anything over $150. Best price and great service.
As for monitors, I have a Dell 2407 direct from www.dell.ca. Other on-line monitor vendors are www.NCIX.com, www.DirectCanada.com, www.Cendirect.com, www.FrontierPC.com, www.Tigerdirect.ca

Love the steak allegory!

If you are wondering what's immoral about it, I will spell it out.

Before you go claiming the moral high ground, why don't you ask a few questions and not make assumptions? If asked I would have told you I have been dealing with one of Apple's small business reps since November. Based on our discussions of the 3D modelling work I do we agreed the best course was to wait until the keynote address. If no new Mac Pros were announced I was going to order one of the current versions and look at video card upgrades. After the keynote I ordered directly through him and he thought the delivery date would be 3 to 5 weeks, likely to the early end of that estimate. That would have been January 30th. When he wasn't available earlier this week I spoke with another Apple rep and 'grumped' about the delivery date not being what I was told by an Apple rep himself. I got a sincere apology and the expedited shipping.

So please explain to me what part of my actions suck and just where my pride and moral fibre are lacking.

Well my ship date is the 13th and at this point I'm almost hoping that they miss it by a day so I can 100% legitimately call them up and get faster shipping and perhaps a discount too. If that happens and it actually ships on the 14th with 2-3 day shipping I'll probably still get it before the regular shipping anyway.

Then again if they ship it tomorrow I'd be ok with that too. As for morals, I think this a bit of of a sticky situation. As long as people are being respectful when calling up then I think it becomes a personal choice. And it is true that if Apple hadn't screwed up in the first place none of this would have happened.

Anyway I might call again tomorrow if I still hear nothing

Hey bigbird, can you send me a link to the ram you got off CanadaRam because all I see is this MacPro ram for like $495. Thanks for the links...I was looking at TigerDirect before.

Which Dell monitor do you have? Do you like it? Is it crisp for films?

Here's the link and you had the right page: http://www.canadaram.com/macram.html

I had ordered the 4 X 2GB kit: Certified 61677-1x4 $495
and the 2 X 1GB kit: Certified 61676-1x2 $170
I ordered when the 800Mhz FB-DIMM's first came out before the price increases.

I have the Dell 2407WFP, bought in April '07. I really like it. Check all the reviews with a Google search. The older versions had problems which have supposedly long been fixed. What do you mean by "crisp for films"? It's very sharp and bright for video editing if that's what you mean.

Sorry, my mistake, Fedex's US hub is in Memphis, not Nashville. Remember the movie "Castaway"?

I can also vouch for this monitor. Excellent picture, tons of inputs. Free shipping from Dell too.

I doubt a Mac Pro box would wash up on shore, but if it did, he could call it "Harper"!

Four drives in the MP bays, one goes into the second optical bay with standard 3.5 to 5.25 adapters, and the sixth I mounted in the PCI expansion area. I had wanted only five internal but ran into problems with eSATA to an external enclosure. Eventually I did get it to work and now have five internal and one external (need to update the sig:eek:). The two optical drive SATA ports are used for the fifth and external drives.

What kind of eSATA problems? Did you use the Newer Tech dealie?

So does anyone think if I cancel and re-order my MP that it might ship sooner than my current order that is to ship by Feb 25th and deliver on March 6th?

Don't cancel, but do order another. Then report back which one arrived first.

"Shipped on: Feb 11, 2008 via FEDERAL EXPRESS (FOR CANADA "

:D

now i wonder if it will take a week to get here or if it will take 2 days....
