I watched a review where a movie was played on the 14, I could not for the life of me take my eyes of the DI, It's just there in the way of everything, I don't think its something I'll get use to. Thinking of keeping my 13PM.

I don't think it would take a lot of effort to find the same threads about the notch when iPhone X was announced... If you think you won't get used to it, keep your 13PM, it's a great phone. 🤷♂️
I don't see the notch at all on the 13PM, I know its there but nicely concealed, that Island is huge non-transparent at all, big black stain on the screen.
Probably on all phones next year and just like eSims. Kinda hard to draw line in the sand and say youre never going there if ever plan to buy new Apple device again.
Most videos you'll be focusing on the middle of the screen anyway, I get it could be a distraction but not enough to make me cancel. Any video worth watching I'd stream to my TV or watch on my TV or Macbook.
But most videos are 16:9 and given the length of the PM, if you watch a video in its correct aspect ratio you'll get black borders on the left and right of the screen, meaning the DI will just blend in, no? I know you can stretch a video to full screen but that way cuts off part of the frame.

I don't understand what the difference is between having the notch cut in to the video versus the DI? is it because the DI has a space above it that's bothering you?

Even 2.40:1 movies are displayed automatically at 16:9 with black bars at the top and bottom. You can expand it to the edges of the screen but even on the 13 you'll run into the notch at that point. By default videos are designed to hide the notch/island by a black bar, only manually expanding it would reveal it.
I don't watch a lot of video on my iPhone these days but I do on occasion. If it's bad on an iPhone Pro Max then it will be even worse on the 14 Pro I ordered. However, at this point my iPhone Pro is arriving tomorrow and I'll see. Sometimes, you have to have it in front of you to see if it works for you.
If I can't stand it, I'll just initiate a return and get another phone. I'm hopeful that it won't be a big deal.

Probably. People find the smallest things to nitpick before they’ve even used the phone, and even then, small things like that will set them off and say it’s the worst thing ever. We see it every year.
I've gotta say, if they didn't create a feature out of the pill, I wouldn't have purchased a 14 Pro Max.
And I've gotta say, I'm scared of watching videos on this thing. It'll be my only drawback.
I probably will not use the "Full Screen" mode when I watch videos, I'll watch them 16:9 instead of 19.5:9.
Skip the 14 and buy an iPad for video. It will be a much better experience.

I just canceled mine too. Not a big enough upgrade going from 13 PM to 14 PM.

I've never watched a movie on my phone. That's what iPads and Macs are for. But to each their own.
Honestly I personally think the notch looks better but each to their own. Basically lost a bit of screen below the notch by moving it up to make the pill. Now it’s made that bit of screen unusable.
Maybe it will grow on me but all seems a bit pointless.
