So they really have two versions.. That's super odd especially that it's the same in Germany like in the states...
I don't have a try on appointment until Monday, but I saw it in person today and it didn't look as bad as people are suggesting. I'm probably still going to buy it, especially since I secured 4-6 week shipping.
Also, the 42mm looks A LOT smaller in person than you think.

I really don't think they have 2 versions I think in direct bright light like the cases it looks more gun metal and in the normal Apple watch store lighting it looks dark like the picture on the wrist and in the renders. Can't be sure because they wouldn't let me take it outside to see how it looked in the sun lol. I thought it looked awesome in store and I think all stores may have them because mine is a smaller store but all associates don't know about it the person that was helping me said they didn't but then checked with the manager just to see. The store had one for try one in the back and they have to request to bring it up. For sure worh checking it out to make sure in your hand don't go by the look in the case. I really don't mind the look in the case either it was just way too close to the look of the normal link to justify the reduction in bands. I'm sticking with it now though I really loved the look of it in person.
Based on the photos I've seen of the actual try-on space black SS vs. the space black in the display case that I've seen in person, I think that one of those two options is not actually DLC-coated. I've seen someone's post regarding how the try-on gold model is not actually the 18k gold alloy that they'll be shipping out to customers, in order to not lose that much if someone accidentally drops the gold watch during try on. Since the Space Black ss has been delayed from the start, I'm assuming that they probably made a different version, like a mockup of the actual DLC-coated watch. I'm assuming that the one for try-on is probably the real version, since it's limited but all display cases in all the stores seem to have a version of the space black.

Less flashy, more durable, case seemlessly blends in with black-dominant displays, such as most watch faces.
Some stores didn't have the SS Black available for trying on.
Aventura, FL was one of them.
After a few days, they may now have one.
My store didn't have a SS Black as well.

These are some of the points that sold me on it!
I ordered the SS SB and a SS classic leather this morning and then went to the store., after seeing them both on real life and having them both on my arm, I gotta admit, the space black looked better in the pics than for real, while with the regular SS, it was exactly the opposite. It looks so elegant and stylish on reality.. Especially with the leather, it felt like the natural organic material was sort of towned down the techy vibe of the watch.. I really liked that. While the SS SB felt like a gadget from the future, it was just too spacey for me somehow. So I canceled it and am gonna go with the silver one
I agree, that's the one I really wanted when pictures were released but after seeing it in person today it seems bland and not that nice looking compared to the SS

To me the SS Space Black is a high end throwback to the old Casio calculator watches. Someone who wasn't a child of the 80's may not understand the emotional connection that little watch had when to be a geek or nerd was actually a derogatory thing. Only the true nerd had one and it signaled a friend if you ever found a buddy wearing one.

I'm in a real mixed opinion now.. I was in store over the weekend and it did pass my mind about whether or not I was impressed with the finish (they too also didn't have a SS SG to try on).
