I don't get it. Is it supposed to be in here?

OK, so I guess I'm supposed to get it from the iPod itself.

But given the cloistered and proprietary nature of the hardware, wouldn't accessing the .ipsw require a Jailbreak?

In summary:

Other than this, I have only discovered four solutions that seem to work for others:
1. sync, sync, sync, sync, sync, sync, sync, ad infinitum;
2. resetting the network connection;
3. switching the date to 2030 and back;
and
4. restoring.

None of which work.

If this is all I can do, I'm just taking it to an Apple Store and having it looked at, because I don't see why this should require any warranty-voiding yak shaving.

Ok, add me to the list... :(
None of the solutions worked so far...
No problem with wifi, Safari, Mail or even Youtube on Safari...
Running 3.1.1

Same problem with me also 3.1 brand new 3g Touch. Only Youtube APP worked once. Think it maybe a server issue and the time of day you can log on. Maybe try to login 10 times only once i may get into youtube account. It's hit and miss. Very frustrating.

I am having a similar problem.

I can access WiFi with no problem. I can access all Apps, Safari, etc. I can access iTunes and view Featured, Most Viewed and do searches. What I cannot do is access Favorites. I have a YouTube account. I have repeatedly tried to change the password and then try again on my iPod, nothing has worked so far.

When I got this new generation iPod Touch 2 weeks ago it worked. Then it stopped and then it worked. Now again it is not working and I cannot access Favorites. The Username and Password are 100% correct.

I have tried everything on the web to fix it. I have changed the date. I have reset it multiple times which in doing so lost one of my Apps that is not recoverable (Nike iPod). I have synced it over and over.

When it corrected itself before, and from reading stuff on the web, I was led to believe this was an issue with YouTube; perhaps it still is ... I don't know. All I know is I want this to work as intended.

Anybody else have "this" problem.

Same Problem

I too am having the same problem. You tube is hit and miss. At times I get the message that I can't be connected to you tube, other times, I connect but can only play approx. 15 - 30 seconds of a video. Why does'nt MAC address this KNOWN issue on their website???????????

oh brother!

My wife just bought me a 32gb touch for christmas. I bought her a 16gb model a couple of years ago and she thought she'd return the favor. Problem is, hers worked great, but my new model doesn't do videos.

As is the case with others on this thread, Youtube cannot be accessed through the homepage app. If I go to the browser I can pull up youtube, but videos lockup midway through. I've tried this from a variety of video sources across the net and the same thing happens with all video content.

I've tried the remedies on this thread

and alas, none of them work. I took the device back this afternoon and exchanged it for another one with the same result. My wife's device continues to work fine. What's up? Has Apple figure out how to devolve their products to a nonfunctioning state?

I'll be returning this second unit tomorrow. Should I give up and just ask for the cash back while I still can?

Hey any1 there? Plz help I jus got the ipod

Everything works exept utube I really don't want to return it I got it for xmas

YouTube is definitely hit and miss. While playing Assassin's Creed 2 I went on the net to look for some info and it worked fine. An hour later wouldn't work and couldn't connect. A few hours later it worked fine.

I don't understand this and there is nothing wrong with YouTube and there is nothing wrong with the iPod itself. It is obviously the app program that is having the issue between YouTube and iPod. While I want this to work "all" of the time I realize that I didn't get the iPod Touch (iPT) for YouTube, that was just a bonus. The iPT has so many other features that it will still remain useful to me.

I hope that Apple realizes there are these problems and are making amends.

I too am having problems with my iPod Touch 2G and so is my GF, we both have a 2G model. We both get the error "Cannot Connect to YouTube" I'm an IT pro and baffled, I have reset my DSL router, have done a sync, tried changing the date, updated to the latest OS fix and firmware, reset network settings etc etc and still have the same problem. I also have another problem, POP email isn't working at times. Its definitely related to the device as email works fine on my laptops. Also the weather AP is failing to update at times. Looks like I will have to do a factory restore once I back it up. I'll post my findings. I only have this problem the last 2 weeks or so.

I finally got my ipod set up after it being boxed up for over a year. Anyway, I was initially having the same issue... after much googling, this is what I found (and how I fixed it):

1. Connect your ipod to itunes on your computer
2. When plugged in, there should be a tab that says "Applications"
3. Click on the "youtube" icon in itunes
4. Check to see youtube works on your ipod and then you can unplug

Hope this helps!

originally my ipod touch wouldn't connect to youtube, then i synced it and updated the software, suddenly it works and the main site works too...

also for desperate, i heard a couple people talking about checking your date setting to see if it's not in like 2099, if it is fix it, if it isn't change it to 2099, check if it works, if it doesn't, change it back then check again, other than that im stumped....

It gets better, you tube works fine down the road on an open wifi network on my ipod, it won't work on my home network. Time to scratch the head and rethink this issue again. I've rebooted my router and my WAN IP is now different but same problem. Might have to contact the ISP next.

I still haven't gotten the chance to go to an Apple Store to get it looked at, but I can confirm the 3.1.3 update does nothing for the problem.

Nor does trying it out in a different Wi-Fi spot. I've tried it in different spots in at least three different cities over the past 6-7 months, and there is absolutely no difference in how it responds. It just instantly goes to the error whenever I try to navigate to another tab in the application.

I've tried fiddling around with the DNS in the network settings, but nothing there, either.

cannot connect problem

I have the same problem with YouTube as many of the others in this forum. I have lastest update of itunes and ipod(3.1.3) I've checked iLounge, Youtube, Googled it, etc. No solutions. I'm hopeful someone will figure this out. At least I'm not the only one frustrated by this puzzle.

YouTube Cannot Connect error

I definitely think it's something to do with my wireless router. My ipod touch works just fine at our local library. I saw in another forum it has to do with the band b/g vs the N that we use here. Now I just have to figure out if you can change the router to cover these bands.

the touch doesn't support N so you will have to use b/g or just have all 3 enabled

YouTube randomly stopped working on my never-been-jailbroken iPod touch a couple weeks ago. It stopped working while on 3.1.2 firmware and continued to not work when I upgraded to 3.1.3. When I launched the YouTube app, it would spin for a minute and then prompt w/ "Cannot connect to YouTube" even though every other app could connect to the net successfully. YouTube videos in safari would display w/ a crossed-out play button and not do anything when clicked on.

I tried syncing w/ iTunes, setting the date to 2030 then back to 2010, syncing again, power cycling the iPod, and even clicking on the YouTube app icon in iTunes then opening the YouTube app on the iPod while tethered. Basically I tried every tip in this thread and everything else I could find on google.

The thing that finally worked was restoring my iPod to factory default settings. Once I did this, I could connect to YouTube again. Great success.

still cannot connect to YouTube

I tried resetting and that didn't work for me. I set our router to mixed channel, but still no luck. Any other advice? Thanks.

cannot connect to Youtube, weather, stocks apps

I went to my router web page and disabled the SPI Firewall and all of these apps worked, but then later it was the same old story. Hmmm?

found a solution to youtube, etc. problem

I changed the DNS on my ipod, it's under settings, wi-fi to 4.2.2.2., 4.2.2.3. Hopes this works for others!

I have a brand new 32G iTouch with v3.1 software. The date change thing worked for me. I changed the year to 2038, power cycled, and then changed back to 2010. I went directly back to the video I was trying to view on Youtube, and it worked fine. I wonder.

My youtube used to work perfectly but now same problem here. iPhone 3GS 16GB - 3.1.2 software. No youtube. App is totally screwed up (cannot connect to youtube). Website works through safari but videos cannot be watch. How this be such a widespread problem across so many software versions and devices for so many months and no fix from the dip***** at apple in all this time? I'm boycotting these losers and their closed platform ******** after this last purchase. HTC's phones are far superior in every respect (not least of all MULTITASKING).

Can you clarify on this? I see no such setting?
