Just don't try to send or receive SMS/MMS Txt since your iPhone is off without a SIM.

Dave
yes.
however, as long as the phone is on (even without SIM) and connected to wifi (at home usually), I can send imessages to other iphone users, which includes all my other family members. I am the only one with android phone.

Edit: The phone was not on any internet connection with SIM card out and wifi/ BT off and the imessages still went from my watch to my daughter's iphone... wow.

Sounds like you'll get your money's worth out of that $10 monthly fee then. It sucks because my fee will be $15/mo because autopay maxes out at 8 lines, and I pretty much always have my iPhone with me. Almost doesn't seem worth it in my case. I almost wish I could pay as I go.

Wow, $15 a month is entirely too much, especially since LTE is a feature you do not need. If i were in your shoes, I would not activate it.

Yes, in my case, it is very much worth it. Looking at the math, I will probably use the Watch without an iPhone for approximately 14-16 hours a week.

Finally got mine activated. I didn't do un-pair and re-pair BS. Pretty sure there are something updated in the backend.

Got my watch from Apple. Got it activated through the app. I thought everything was fine, but...

I could not make or receive any phone calls using cellular. I cannot send or receive text messages using cellular. After reading about a similar situation on T-Mobile forum, I was able to make calls from my watch using cellular. However, if someone called me (iPhone 7+ turned off), they're sent to voicemail instead of going to the watch. I still can't send or receive texts.

how often are you really planning on not having your phone with you? I mean, this issue is almost inexcusable but still, the watch is fully functional for the 98% of the time most peoples phone is in range.
We paid extra for the cellular version. We're also paying $10 more per month for the service. Even if we don't use it often, It should work when we need it.

Yes, the watch works without the iphone. I had the iphone off with no SIM card and I was still able to make the phone call to my wife while I was sitting in my car parked on the side of the road.

Can you receive calls or send/receive text messages using cellular on your watch?

I bought my watch from T-Mobile and am on Simple Choice Unlimited. I get stuck on this page every time.

Still no change from Friday. I have unpaired the watch and paired it to my new 8 plus and it is still the same. Went to a T-Mobile retail store and they called it in. They said that they are having various problems with activation and suggested that keep trying and if it doesn’t work after a couple days to call back in. I have read about many different problems but I have not seen anyone mention the same screen that I get. Hopefully it gets fixed in the next couple days or I have to make the dreaded call into T-Mobile tech support!

I can send and receive imessages. I have no way of testing text because i don't know any one who uses android but myself. No one calls me so i dont knows if i can receive calls.

Edit. I just received a call. So it works. My iPhone is at home without the sim card.

Just press cancel and skip the cellular activation. Then once your watch is set-up just go into the cellular option and make sure it shows your carrier. Mine works fine, tested it today after I set it up. I got that page twice and decided to cancel it, and that's how I figured out that our cellular is pre-activated.

I have pressed Cancel during the initial setup. Then when I go back to Cellular in the Watch app, it says T-Mobile Loading Plan for a moment and then it says Setup Cellular again. If I tap that, it takes me through the same process. A Thanks for using T-Mobile page, an Account Confirmation page where I enter the last four of my SSN, then the Account Maintenance page I posted. I have repeated this more times than I can count with no change.

anyone lucky in activating on T-Mobile today?

I chat with their senior support team today again and basically they all are saying same thing what was mentioned earlier on this thread: its a known issue and any Apple Watch bought directly from Apple are not activating and we are actively working with Apple to resolve this issue. NO ETA.

I bought mine directpy from apple.com on launch day. I didnt have problem setting it up. So that cannot be the cause.

Right there are few lucky ones who got their watches activated bought directly from apple. But majority of us are still waiting for activation to work. Atleast few tmobile reps confirmed this issue but no resolution yet.

I bought from Apple. Activated 2 of them with T-Mo in about 15 seconds on launch day.

Are you on T-Mobile One Plan or some other legacy plans?

BTW i am on their old simple choice plan; initially they told me that i have to change to One plan but then when i refused, they told me that it should be able to activate. Also confirmed with few folks here who got from t-mobile and were able to activate even on old plans.

I have simple choice plan with 8 lines.
It activated without trouble. The 3months free promotion and $10/mo deal showed up on my iphone during the activation process.
BTW. On T mobile website my account shows a separate number for the watch and i tried calling that number but it didn't work. I guess it only receives forwarded signal from my iPhone number.

No luck here still. Have ticket opened with Apple and T-Mobile. Tried the unpair step, but no luck. T-Mobile finally opened a ticket and took down watch IMEI/etc info and told me to wait up to 7-10 business days for a response.

I had the simple plan, but now upgrade to the One plan. Still have problems.

I'm loving the watch. Just need LTE to make it complete. :)

Still no dice for those of us on business accounts. Last I heard from T-Force they scheduled an update call with me on 10/2.

I've yet to ever have T-Mobile call be back on an open ticket.

Just contacted @TMobileHelp on Twitter. Said it is still not working and that they are working on a fix. Then told me that pairing it with the iPhone and using WiFi was just as good.

Yeah I've talked to support enough to notice that it seems like they have a formula where if they acknowledge an issue they have to say something positive as an alternative. Like, I will complain that as a business customer I can't do anything self-service, I always have to call them or go into a store. They'll respond with "The Business Care is a great team and is available to help you 24/7 at 1-800-375-1126." -- you don't say!?

T-Mobile contacted me and asked me to go to the store; they recently published the steps required to activate the watch on their internal forum (knowledge base) and without hassle, they were able to activate my watch.

Here are the steps:
* Activate new Digits line
* Instead of Sim number, enter EID number of the watch
* Choose BYOD (buy your own device option when asked in their tool which i believe is called quickview).
* Once activated, go to your watch, setup cellular and it will go straight to the page which says congratulations, your apple watch is activated.

I also just got mine to work. I phoned tmobile and was connected to their technical people (somewhere in mountain time). This was after 4 calls to Tmobile talking to people who were uninformed. The person set up a new line, connected it to my phone number and after about one hour and restarting both devices the phone and watch were connected. I also needed to supply them with the EID number, the IMEI and my credit card (for adding the line).
