You just have to appreciate the engineering that’s the brain
that’s what Apple was selling during the announcement, all the engineering stuff because design wise it falls flat. But consumers will not noticed how innovative the approach Apple did but it’s more on aesthetic and feels when using the device. To be honest this year’s Pro is not so Pro in terms of the outside looks and material used, 14PM with stainless steel, glass front and back are the real premium feels when you hold them. It’s my personal take.

Having compared my wife’s 17 Pro to my 16 Pro Max in the hand, mine does feel a more premium feeling device I think. However, once in a case, the 17 Pro is just like any other iPhone. I think you soon get over it.

I’m an advocate for aluminium btw, it’s a premium alloy and I’ve always laughed how people saw it as cheap. It’s just the older Pro models seemed to look a bit more refined I suppose. It would have been nice to see titanium rings around the cameras on the 17 Pro, and add a layer of durability there. I’ve already seen complaints of the anodising chipping in the blue and orange versions. The silver looks the better model, and that’s the one my wife opted for. She felt the silver felt a more professional device in her working situation.

I guarantee most of the people on here wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between two pieces of unmarked aluminum and titanium. Yet here they are talking about how the 17 feels less premium.

The 17 Pros feel and look fine. Color choices are subjective, but the way the phone fits in the hand is objectively better than the 16.

Define what the term “Pro” means in regards to the iPhone.

Dumbest term they ever assigned to a phone.
Although it makes sense more and more each year. Yes, with the 11 Pro the „Pro“ features were OLED and a triple 12MP camera array with an almost useless ultra wide.
Now, you have 48MP on each camera, focus on each camera, a very bright screen and finally a desperately needed cooling system for extended outdoor workloads. You know, things professionals benefit from, not like before.
The worst was the 12 Pro, literally no clue what was better about it apart from 5G and the new design compared to the 11 Pro.

Yeah I don’t know why people are having a conniption over this. My 17pm feels solid af
One drop and the aluminum gives so much. Not to mention it’s not just scratches and blemishes, it’s full on warping and compromise of the frame itself as it’s aluminum. Watch Everything Apple Pro video. Drops from four feet cause major damage to the pro but none to the Air. Bad mistake to not reinforce the frame somewhat. Or, at least tell every Pro Pro Max buyer they absolutely need a case to ensure it’s not destroyed with one small incident.

Yeah BUT you always said the pros were over priced and not worth the extra $$, now your Mrs is buying them, happy wife happy life eh 😂

Couldn’t disagree more. My Pro feels premium and sturdy.

This. I actually can’t remember the last time an iPhone felt this good in the hand. Even when I used smaller models, I don’t remember them feeling this good. Something about the curved edges, aluminum, and weight distribution on the 17PM just feels great.

The durability concerns are valid, but otherwise, I can’t believe how much the titanium marketing made such an impact on so many people. Acting like aluminum is some bottom of the barrel material despite it being significantly better for thermals and lighter weight. Plus iPads and Macs are made out of them.

Glad there’s someone out there that doesn’t think I’m crazy haha. Every iPhone I have had since MagSafe was announced, would develop rings on them where the charger sat. It would happen just over night. You’d be able to wipe it off, at first at least. One trick I found works for whatever reason…I use an anker MagSafe having stand that I have confirmed in the past still leaves the marks…I covered the surface of the charger with a layer of duct tape, and now it doesn’t leave marks anymore.
I use only MagSafe, both with cover a naked phone, never had any issue. Mac rumors forum is like politics today, exaggerated stuff

as I understand it, when you graduate with a degree in Professional and get a job with “professional” in the title, the good men and women of society will expect you have a Pro phone otherwise what manner of being are you? Sadly my brother doesn’t have a college degree and so he’s only allowed to have a non-pro phone 😥

I’ve noticed it becoming cheap way back when they released regular iPhone 11. And people online were “it is budget phone, buy Pro!”. This is not how it should be.

It feels like Apple uses some cheap aluminum alloy nowadays, not same quality as they had in iPhone 5 or 6, has different texture too. So you would naturally buy some case to hide it away.

Most smartphones feel like expensive toys nowadays. I would have much preferred them to use more premium alloys than what they currently have, my old moka pot feels more premium than any iPhone🤦‍♂️

I've never experienced an iPhone, regardless of the model, to feel cheap. The cheapest phone I've had as far as 'feel' goes, was the Google Pixel 3a. But guess what, that phone continues to work just as it did when it was new. I gave it to my dad when I was done with it and he's still using it today, 6 years later.

To suggest that Apple's 'Pro' line of iPhone 17 is cheap or not premium is a matter of opinion. I believe that Apple uses the marketing term 'Pro' to signify professional level features more than a 'premium' feel with the materials used to build it. Otherwise the build quality of the Pro isn't much different than most any other phone they produce.

Apple has had their fair share of misses with build quality for sure, but I don't think they sit around the conference room discussing ways to make their products inferior on purpose, such as the perceived implication that it was unbelievable that Apple released a 'Pro' phone that feels cheap.

macbook pro = aluminum
ipad pro = aluminum

i don’t know why iphones can’t be aluminum

I think it's because Apple already set the precedent of the Pro iPhone being premium. They've positioned the Air as the premium phone this year and used that as a reason they can push the Pro towards aluminium for better cooling, as you point out is the case with the iPad and MacBooks.

But they might have underestimated how much people still expect the Pro to look and feel somewhat premium.

I’ve had several people in the family blindly, hold the pro and the promax and they can barely tell the weight difference between the two
Agree. For some reason my wife’s 17 Pro Max feels lighter than my 17 Pro. Think the wait is spread out more on the Max, which makes it feel lighter. Certainly feels a lot larger though. 🙂

Glad to hear not everyone has the issue. However this issue isn’t really exaggerated. It exists. A 5 second google image search can confirm that.

Just because people are complaining about it online doesn’t mean it exists. Every year there’s some hysterical overreaction to some perceived flaw, and every year we all move on in a month.

And just because it never happened to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Again, a 5 second google image search will prove that it in fact exists.

I’m not bashing the phone or apple, relax.
