Worked!!!

I have Windows7 64 bit had the same problem was doing my head in, I read this post unchecked the read only option by right clicking properties on the folder itunes in mymusic folder, problem solved, I LOVE YOU ALL THAT POSTED... Cuz I wanted to make playlists in itunes... yay!!!

Double click on the file you want to drag and drop it will say that itunes needs to locate the file then find it, viola!!! Sometimes the simplest things in life suck the hardest to find!!!;)

Awesome

I had same issue, clicked on my Ipod's name in left Column, under devices. You'll see Summary/Apps/Music/Movies/etc on top, a picture of your Ipod, along with Capacity, software version, serial number, below you have option to Check for update or restore, and below that, is options, Check the box "Manually manage music and videos", and you should be good to go with drag and drop. Hope this helps in your moving of files and whatnots you crazy kids do with your Ipods.

THANK YOU! :D

Thanks for all the suggestions, I tried them all and still didnt help. My drag and drop stopped working after I tried to transfer 1000's of files from HD at once and it was unsuccessful.
I finally figured out that I now needed to drag, hold down the alt/option key, and drop.
Hope this helps someone.

Still Can't Drag & Drop

Hi all
I have ITunes 9.2.1.5 an Ipod Classic 160gig on a Vista 64 machine. All of a sudden I put new songs on my library and then a few weeks later when I try to manage my playlists drag and drop function does not work. I've tried everything listed here and nothing helps so far. I cannot tell you how frustrating this is. I have over 24,000 songs and not being able to manage my Ipod anymore makes me feel like I got an expensive piece of junk. Any and all help with my problem will be apreciated. I hope someone out the hears my call and comes to my rescue. Thanks in advance.

I just got it! Go into iTunes preferences. Select the Advanced tab (gear shaped icon) Where it says "Reset iTunes Store cache:" hit the Reset Cache button. I'm draggin and droppin' again!

Thank You All

I did feel a bit silly that I hadn't took tommygunner25's advice clicked on my Iphone's name in left Column, under devices to check the box "Manually manage music and videos" was ticked, it wasn't! BUT that didn't help, I did how ever then take locu5t's advice as im on Windows7 about unticking the read only option by right clicking properties on the folder itunes AND the combination of both has worked, SUCCESS :D

Screw What They Said! I Got It!

Everyone's little "sign out and back in" comments sucked monkey nuts.

I fooled with my mac for 3 hours trying to fix it and I feel like an idiot because of how simple it was to fix it!

To fix the problem, simply:
-click your ipod under devices
-the summary tab should be the first to pop up. if not, click it.
-scroll down
-under "options", make sure the *manually manage music and videos* option is clicked

Problem solved.

sheesh.

yOU dA MAN!

Well, I have to admit, it worked for me. Total awesomeness.
Don't know how u ever figured that one out, unless it was pressing EVERY button to see what it would do. My method too.
but thanks for sharing. Been annoying me for ever. Owe you big time.
iTunes 10.0.1.22, win7
:D:apple:
To all further posters reporting success or failure, please also add what kind of machine and what version of OS and iTunes you are running, so we can sort out what applies to us...And just to be perfectly clear, my problem was rearranging the order of songs IN a playlist
I think other posters are talking about drag/drop in other areas of iTunes, like draging songs TO a playlist, and so on.

mojo worked

I was having trouble dragging iTunes playlists to my desktop (when I'd always been able to before). I logged out of my desktop and then logged back in, and now dragging and dropping works.

iTunes 10.0.1.22, Mac 10.5.8

Thanks!

Dragging iTune songs

This one was driving me Batty! Nothing solved the problem and went so far as to go to the local iMac Store and they were stumped. Someone suggested I sign out of iTunes store - did that. Then I noticed that in some folders i could drag???? In the end what worked for me was to create a new folder and dragged all the files to the new one. I could drag again. Don't Know why but it worked. Hope this helps others.

THANK YOU SOO MUCH! It helped ME.

Why it helped me:
I think that the reason why I could'nt drag and drop files was that i first had my music on my iPod, then i got it from my Ipod to my iTunes, and then i got the music from my iTunes onto my iPhone. Then i plugged my iPhone into another computer and synced with the New computers iTunes, therefore I could'nt drag and drop because of the Store Cache History.
But then when I reset the Store Chace IT WORKED again.

I have a PC with Windows Vista and iTunes 10.1.1.4 and have tried every trick listed on this thread so far but nothing has helped. I have tried logging out and logging back in, nothing. As soon as I unclick the Read-Only box, it automatically reapplies by itself. This only stated happening after my last iTunes update...does anyone have any other solutions??

Can't drag files in itunes

I read a simple fix that WORKED for IMAC OS 10.6.6 users!

log out under the Apple Icon and Log back in.

Drag and Drop Away!!!:)

Help!!

Since I opened iTunes on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv2000) I found i could not drap and drop my apps onto my iPod Touch. Help anyone?

I have a similar problem.

Some of my music files I can add to the library and some of them I can't.. I just bought a new macbook pro 13" yesterday and I have the newest version of Itunes. However if I add all my music, approximately 6 gig of my music isn't added into Itunes... I can't add the files manually (I didn't figure out which of the files are not in Itunes, only some of them, since I have 45 gig of music it's hard to figure out all the files that are not put into Itunes).

When I delete everything from my Itunes, and add my Itunes folder again, the same problem occurs. Still the same amount of songs is added and the same amount of songs is not.

I am not signed into the apple store, so does anybody know what the problem could be?

Edit: I hadnt have this problem on my Windows Laptop... I was able to put all the songs into my Itunes.

I am also not able to play the files in Itunes at all. When I click on a file in finder to play it, it opens Itunes as if it were going to play it but nothing happens. I can play it in quicktime though, so there is nothing wrong with the file itself. The files are just normal mp3's.
I have been searching on google, but I really can't find any clues of what is going on.
Does anybody has any other possibilities for me to try?

can't drag files in itunes after update

I had the same problem. Just go to preferences - advanced and change the itunes media file and direct it to the music folder.

My gf just had the same problem. She could not drag/drop files into her iTunes library. After reading some of these mind-boggling posts (no offense) with things that hardly made sense, I ended up figuring out something myself.

This is how we got it to work.

1 - Get Winamp (note: it could work with other media players, i just favor winamp since i use it)
2 - Add the songs to the winamp playlist
3 - Click on 'manage playlist' (note: if you have an old version of winamp, it might not say 'manage playlist' as the button)
4 - Click on save playlist and choose where you want to save it. Name it whatever you want it. And change the file type to ".pls" (default save type might be m3u. dont know if it works with that, didnt bother trying, just seemed like pls would be a common playlist format to me.)
5 - Go into iTunes
6 - Click on File > Library > Import playlist
7 - Go find where you saved your playlist, click on it and click open.

Your songs should now be added to iTunes. I hope this was easy to understand. It actually took me less time to reach this solution, than it did trying to understand some of these posts. Good luck.

FWIW...
I had the same problem today, and started googling the hell out of it and found a lot of confused people out there who are just boggling at how something so basic could be so unsolvable. Nothing I tried worked (including the suggestions in this thread).
Then I tried plugging my iPod into a different USB port (Windows 7 PC, iTunes 10, really old 3rd generation iPod ). This time Windows behaved differently (gave an error message actually, but it didn't say anything at all when I originally plugged the iPod into the first USB port) but iTunes found the iPod OK and I was suddenly able to drag'n'drop to it again.
All I'm saying is, if you have this problem, try various USB ports. They may be configured differently.

importing itunes songs

Those encountering trouble importing purchased songs from itunes and then onto you Iphone.
you need to cop it, and then paste onto your desktop, then drag the file over to your playlist on your Iphone.
