The only use case in which I’ve ever seen a high refresh rate screen provide the most tangible benefit is in gaming.

Of course 120hz is nicer to look at regardless of the use case, but it’s almost wasted on the iPhone. Few games support it or can run at those refresh rates in the more demanding games.

I also wish the Pro would stop taking itself so seriously and offer more “Apple” colors like the regular 14.

More colors… hmm… they’d have to do in aluminum since I believe getting color on stainless steel is intensive…. Not 100% sure on that though.

The 120 hz is a quality of life thing and a luxury. It doesn’t have a use case, no, but it makes the experience a pleasure.

Absolutely. Had it on my 13 pro max now use a 14 plus. Turned pro motion off on 13 pro max when i had it. I don't game or watch much tv on my phone so it wasn't needed

I just turned off promotion to see what it was like, and holy h***… I can’t ever go back to 60hz. It was so terribly janky.

I guess I’m locked into the Pro forever. 🤷‍♂️
I've been going back and forth on different devices ever since I bought the first iPad Pro with Promotion
it's no big deal at all...

How do you turn it 'off/on' on the new 14Pro phone?

60hz on a 120hz display looks worse than 60hz on a 60hz display

At least when it comes to a device that’s meant to be used in 120hz

My iPad Pro looks awful in 60hz . My iPhone 11 looks crazy smooth @60

I’m so fed up w 60hz judder scrolling (I can see the strobe effect) that I close my eyes when I scroll, then open them when I’ve stopped.
I HATE 60HZ SCROLLING
Totally. I liked ProMotion when I tried the 14 Pro (and when I’ve used iPad Pros in the past) but aside from scrolling the display on my 13 mini is far more comfortable to use. It has the highest DPI of any iPhone along with one of the highest PWM flicker rates (510hz according to Notebookcheck, second only to the iPhone 13’s 610hz).

The 14 Pro’s display made me feel disoriented and motion sick for a day after I put it in its box to return. Also I like the 13 mini’s size far better :)

This is interesting… when I turn off “Smooth Display” on my Pixel 5 (which raises refresh rate from 60 to 90 Hz “for some content”), the scrolling looks awful… much worse than my iPhone 8+ (which of course is 60 Hz).

What you experience when turning off 120Hz on your ProMotion iPhone or iPad is not the same as what you get on a 60Hz iPhone/iPad at all.

For a long time I used my iPad Pro alongside an 11 Pro Max, I went back and forth daily and both were smooth, but I noticed the iPad Pro was a tad smoother however if I limited FPS on the iPad Pro the experience was jarring and not at all the 60Hz I had on the 11 Pro Max.

This exactly! It’s not at all the same, when you choose the Limit Frame Rate option on a 120Hz iPad or iPhone, what you get is a much worse experience than on a 60Hz iPad or iPhone, very jarring experience.

Fascinating. Maybe that’s it then, because I REALLY had no problems on the 13 mini or other 60hz phones.

Planned obsolescence strikes again!

Hahahah no not really.

I have an iPhone 13 I use for work and a 14PM for my personal line and...yes. The 13 seems janky in comparison.

I’ve got a 13 Pro Max and an iPhone 11 which is a works phone and I can go between both without noticing too much.

This reminds me of the days when OLED came to iPhone and all we had on here was how much superior OLED was over LCD by the tech snobs. In reality the difference was barely noticeable in real world use.

My work phone in a SE 2022 and my personal is a 13 pro. I go back and forth multiple times daily and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I can easily see the difference; I just don't care. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Will be interesting to see how much difference it makes when I receive my 14 pro. Just using them in store I don’t notice much of a difference.

This must be true, since it feels so slow in comparison at 60Hz whereas it looks natural on a display without ProMotion.

Truth be told 120Hz isn’t a big deal to me. I can see the difference, but I don’t need it. Even in games and movies especially, it’s smoother but not super necessary IMHO.
