I prefer the 120Hz, as I can notice it in the scrolling, but when I switch device, I just get used to the lower refresh rate after a while.

I live in hybrid shorts 90% of the time and just am over big and heavy. I no longer use iPhone camera since the heavy use of computational exposures.

I’m tempted by 14 Pro if screen won’t dim but loving this 14. Perfect size and crazy light. Battery life is amazing. 6 hours of on-screen with 50% remaining. That’s iPad battery life. It hasn’t dimmed once in the same situations my 13 PM ALWAYS dimmed.

This exactly! It’s not at all the same, when you choose the Limit Frame Rate option on a 120Hz iPad or iPhone, what you get is a much worse experience than on a 60Hz iPad or iPhone, very jarring experience.

Same thing on my iPad Pro 10.5, looks awful when I limit the frame rate.

Why is that?

my mini 6 is 60hz and not a massive deal but yeah i would not want to go back to 60hz now.not for my phone.

Used the 14 PM at 120 for a week. Didn’t really care one way or another so I checked to cap at 60 for battery savings. I like that it’s a variable refresh rate to go down to 10 on static screens. But as far as 120 goes, it was irrelevant for my experience.

The battery savings are going to be more irrelevant than the difference between 60hz and 120hz. I agree it’s not a must have feature but why not just buy a 14 Plus at that point unless you really value the telephoto lens?

Variable refresh as I noted. And since it does save battery to limit to 60, it’s far more relevant than the screen refreshing at 120.

But that’s the point - variable refresh allows you to have 120hz with minimal hit on the battery. I doubt you’re squeezing much more battery life out and if you’re able to kill a 14PM in a day I’m impressed.

If I get 10 minutes more screen on time, it’s worth it. If I get 5 more, it’s worth it. That’s useful, the alternative is useless to me. That’s actually the point

It makes complete sense.
I intend to

It would make sense if you were killing the 14 PM with 120hz on and 5-10 minutes actually made a difference for you but I doubt that. These phones already last nearly 2 days for most people so paying more for features you’re just going to turn off is silly.

60hz on a 120hz display looks worse than 60hz on a 60hz display

At least when it comes to a device that’s meant to be used in 120hz

My iPad Pro looks awful in 60hz . My iPhone 11 looks crazy smooth @60

That's because it's a different type of screen. The newer screens have created a problem that really wasn't there. I also find that when I look at the SE2, the 60 hertz refresh rate doesn't bother me at all. I picked up an iPhone 14 plus and was shocked at how noticeable the 60 hertz was, not only compared to the 14 pro model, but also compared to my older 11 pro (a little) and the SE2 (a lot). It almost felt like the 14 plus was 55 Hertz or less. Older retina screens like the SE2 and base 11 are much better at 60hz.

Conversely, barely perceptible scrolling differential at a hit to battery is completely worthless.
Sorry I continue to ruffle your feathers. I thought the ‘you do you’ was your send off. Yet here you are, defending a feature that’s useless to me.

Because you‘re telling me it makes sense to turn off a feature that improves the phone experience when you’re not even killing the battery in a day anyway. The phone has to be charged eventually. What difference does it make if you’re charging it ten minutes later the next day when it lasts all day anyway? Makes zero sense and never will.

Of course it makes sense. You don’t seem to understand the concept of improving the experience.
It makes plenty of sense to choose a useful experience over a useless one. And battery will always be more useful than silly scrolling.
Keep you doing you though, you’re terrific at it

It would make sense if your phone wasn’t lasting the entire day with 120hz on but that’s not the case and we’ve already established that, therefore you’re foregoing an improved experience for no reason. Thus, it makes no sense.

Agreed! Ive had it since 2019 on the iPad but to get it on the phone is a different experience altogether. Everything is smoother, my 12Pro feels ancient in comparison

Yup. Same here for all my devices. I could handle 60Hz on my iPhone when I had 120Hz on my iPad, but now that I have it on all three of my devices (iPad, iPhone, Mac), I just can’t do without it anymore.

I’ve never experienced anything greater than 75hz (CRT days), so I can’t even fathom 100+. Must be nice!

120Hz and the AOD don’t factor into my decision at all.

Other Pro features like the telephoto lens and the stainless steel body are nice to have.

Then of course we have the upgraded camera sensors, better 5G modem, and A17 Bionic on the Pro. I almost forgot about the Dynamic Island. So there are still a lot of reasons to upgrade.

My preferences and logic are similar to yours, however the issue is that with people turning off extra features like AOD to save battery life--it's a similar example of someone still preferring to preserve battery life over features.
