It's called umm not having enough money to buy a new phone every year.I have the 14 Pro Max and am always waiting for the next one! I don't understand the logic of skipping things to 'wait'. I've had every single iphone since the original on launch day, no sense in changing that now.
So everyone who doesn’t buy the latest iPhone doesn’t have the money for it? That’s stupid, sorry. It's called umm not having enough money to buy a new phone every year.

I don’t think they were suggesting that is always the case. I think a lot of us could afford to buy a new iPhone each year if we really wanted to but it’s become a bit of an extravagant purchase seeing as iPhones barely change year on year and essentially do exactly the same thing. Sometimes there are just better things to spend money on for many people. So everyone who doesn’t buy the latest iPhone doesn’t have the money for it? That’s stupid, sorry.
I would even go further and say that almost everyone who can afford the latest iphone could afford it every year.I hate to break it to you but individuals like yourself who buy the latest iPhone every year are much rarer than the people that keep phones 2+ years. You may see it as nonsensical but not everybody is passionate about mobile phones and sees the benefit of changing theirs every 12 months.

So be it. As many, my work depends on my phone so each year, I get a new one. The actual cost is minimal when considering selling the year old phone.I hate to break it to you but individuals like yourself who buy the latest iPhone every year are much rarer than the people that keep phones 2+ years. Well now I didn't say it relies on the 'latest' iphone every year, just that my job is tied to my phone... FWIW I am in IT and my clients expect me to have the the most current deviceThe cost is even more minimal for those that don’t upgrade annually too.
What do you do for a job that relies on the latest iPhone every year? Genuinely curious.
It will be in two years.portless is simply not close to what it needs to be to be able to wireless charge at a good enough rate to move away from wired.
I own an IPhone XS and I just put a new battery and the phone still works great for me. I hate the Lighting charging cable. Did I say HATE. So if my phone makes it until the date of the new 15 phone I will wait and get the Ultra model. I would like the USB-C. I don’t know why Apple never listens to their customers. I have never met an Apple IPhone owner who likes the Lighting charging system. It has always been a negative about the IPhone so I am glad Apple is forced to change to the USB-C system.
Due to production issues at Apple supplier factories in China, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are backordered and basically out of stock at every store. If you were planning to gift or receive an iPhone 14 Pro model for the holidays and didn't already get one, you're basically out of luck because they're gone until late December.

In fact, with the iPhone 14 Pro delays and rumors of some very enticing features for the high-end iPhone 15 models, you may just want to wait until September 2023 to upgrade. We've outlined some of the features that you can expect, which may just be new additions you want to hold out for.
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra
Part of the reason that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are so in demand this year is that Apple packed them full of features the standard iPhone 14 models just didn't get. Faster processors, better cameras, and the Dynamic Island make the iPhone 14 Pro far more appealing than the iPhone 13-like iPhone 14 models, and the same trend will continue for the iPhone 15 Pro.
In fact, Apple may ramp things up even further by giving the iPhone 15 Pro Max a better feature set than the iPhone 15 Pro, and rumors suggest that it could even get a name to reflect the change - iPhone 15 Ultra. If you like the latest and greatest, it might be worth waiting for Apple's highest-end iPhone to date.
USB-C
The entire iPhone 15 lineup is expected to transition to USB-C instead of Lightning in 2023, so if you're a fan of using a single charger for your Mac, iPhone, and iPad, the iPhone 15 models will be appealing.
Apple is making this change to comply with a European law that requires smartphones and electronics to use a common charger, but it wouldn't make sense for the company to create a USB-C iPhone just for one region, so customers worldwide will benefit.
All iPhone 15 models will get USB-C, but rumors right now suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro models will support higher-speed data transfers. If, for example, Apple integrates Thunderbolt 3 support into the iPhone 15 Pro models, transfer speeds could hit 40Gb/s. With just USB 3.2, we can expect 20Gb/s speeds.
Faster A17 Processor
The A16 was limited to the iPhone 14 Pro models, and the A17 is expected to be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models. The A17 could be the first chip built on TSMC's next-generation 3-nanometer node, which would allow for increased performance and reduced power consumption.
Periscope Camera Lens
Apple is working on improved optical zoom enabled through periscope lens technology, which could be limited to the iPhone 15 Ultra. Periscope lenses are expensive and take up space, which is why Apple might use it as motivation to get people to spring for the highest-end iPhone.
With periscope lens technology, Apple could offer as much as 10x optical zoom, up from 3x in the current iPhone 14 Pro models. Other manufacturers like Samsung have implemented these longer-range telephoto lenses, pairing it with digital zoom for impressive 100x zoom capabilities.
Solid State Buttons
The iPhone 15 Pro models could get additional Taptic Engines that would facilitate solid-state volume and power buttons that feel like buttons, but actually aren't. This is the technology that Apple uses for the MacBook Pro's touchpad, so it feels like you're pressing down on a button, but there's no physical button press mechanism.
This is a feature rumored for the iPhone 15 Pro models and it could allow for additional features when pressing certain buttons and it could improve water resistance, though just how the solid state buttons will be taken advantage of remains to be seen.
Other Rumors
There are other rumors about the iPhone 15 Pro models, some of which are more reliable than others. Here's what we've heard:

I like the lightning cables. Don’t have any USB-C devices. Happy the 14 came with lightning so I can still use the cables I have and don’t need to buy and carry an additional one.I own an IPhone XS and I just put a new battery and the phone still works great for me. I hate the Lighting charging cable. Did I say HATE. So if my phone makes it until the date of the new 15 phone I will wait and get the Ultra model. I would like the USB-C. You are moving the goalposts. Your original point was that "Periscope lenses that provide optical zoom do NOT take up space!" which I have disproven by showing examples of how a periscope zooms are almost twice as large as a non-zoom camera used by the same manufacturer. You can extrapolate from this that any zoom module Apple uses will have a similar proportional size increase compared to the single camera module Apple uses.
As I said in my post that you responded to, if Apple replaces two cameras, the main and tele, with one periscope zoom the camera array will not occupy more space, but Apple wont do that because a zoom which supports 48MP and offers the same fast f1.78 aperture of the main camera and f2.8 aperture of the the tele, not to mention zooms usefully past 3X, won't fit in the phone without making it a lot thicker; the Samsung zoom is f4.9, the Sony zoom is f2.3 - f2.8, and the Huawei zoom is f3.4, and none of them are used as the regular main camera on their phone.
So what is most likely is that Apple will either replace the tele camera with something that is close to twice its size or add the zoom as a fourth camera, both options mean that the Pro/ProMax camera array will occupy either more or a lot more internal space than if it didn't have a periscope zoom.
Ive shown photos demonstrating that the periscope zoom used by every manufacturer is almost twice the sizeI’m not moving the goal posts. You’ve only focused on 1/2 manufacturers’ periscope cams.
Show us a side by side demonstrating that the part of Sony's periscope zoom that sits inside the camera body is smaller than the part of Apple's 48MP module that is inside the camera body.Sonys is less than half the space. In actuality it’s smaller than Apple’s 48 MP sensor and camera assembly from width, length and height.
While Apple could replace the tele, they cant replace the 48MP wide camera because periscope zooms don't have a fast enough aperture or even start at the wide focal length. And an f1.7 zoom that starts at that focal length would never fit inside of a phone. So if Apple replaces the tele with a zoom, it's going to be larger and therefore take up more internal space than the tele. Show us a side by side demonstrating that Sony's periscope zoom is smaller than Apple's tele camera. With optical Zoom Apple could replace the telephoto camera and wide angle camera with just one - but that depends on how this tech evolves.
Then you wait for the iPhone 16 Pro which based on Apple’s history of giving the Plus/Max a better camera for one generation and then the same camera system for the next, it should “catch up” with its bigger brother and get the periscope camera. What if I don’t want the biggest phone for all the features?
If Apple decides to go port-less with the iPhone 16 models, what would that mean for the iPhone 15 models? Also, while the iPhone 15 models may gain USB-C, iPhone 15 models sold outside the US may join the US models as eSIM only. All of y'all wondering why this article was written, it literally says in the first paragraph. Thanks to production shutdowns the phone is backordered some places until January. That only gives you about 9 months of use vs the usual 12 before the new model comes out. If you're on an iPhone 11/12/13 that might be more than enough reason to hold off.
Additionally all rumors point to the phone getting USB-C. That's huge! The last time we had a port change was literally over a decade ago. This isn't some 2% display brightness bump. Lightning is going to be deprecated going forward which means the iPhone 14 will lose value faster than previous phones, as well as being compatible with fewer accessories (sans dongle) over time.
You may have to wait until the 16 Pro for the periscope camera unless you don’t mind getting the bigger 15 Ultra. The iP15 will introduce breaking changes. Fast USB-C charging and USB-C will be there for the next 10 years, while Lightning is already outdated today.
What @MacRumors forgot to mention, the iP15 will also feature the brand new Sony sensor - this sensor is another major change, so if you plan to use you iP for some years … safe your money!

How this tech evolves is irrelevant,
Apple isn't going port-less with the iPhone 16. You would screw over like 75% of Apple CarPlay users. Wireless CarPlay only became a thing starting in 2020 and didn't hit mainstream vehicles until recently. Wireless charging is still nowhere as efficient as wired either, not to mention slower. If Apple decides to go port-less with the iPhone 16 models, what would that mean for the iPhone 15 models? Also, while the iPhone 15 models may gain USB-C, iPhone 15 models sold outside the US may join the US models as eSIM only.
I've shown four periscope zooms which are almost twice the size of that phone's tele camera. You have shown no periscope zooms which are the same size or smaller than that phone's tele camera. You’ve NOT shown periscope cameras by every manufacturer. If you did you would not be asking me for a side by side comparison lol.
And not even possible. "Fits in a pocket" is also a feature. Pro Max fails miserably with that. Sure, it doubles as a raft or a climbing wall, but not all of us want a tablet-sized phone.Wait for the next SE, rumored for 2024...
[edit] Misunderstood your question. I agree, "all the features" should not have to equal "biggest phone".
