I don't think Apple will implement Thunderbolt 3 on the Type-C port. They should, but they will not. The port will use the slowest speed possible, basically usable for charging only. Locked into corporate greed, instead of delivering the best product they can, Apple can only deliver disappointment, while increasing the price anyways.

Why on Earth would they take the retrograde step of styling it with a rounded back again?

One of things I've enjoyed most about recent models is the squared edges to make it sit in your hand more reliably. That's one of things I love about my 14 Pro and hate about my work XR.

Maybe the Ultra will be even thicker. With rounded edges you can hide and it will look slim.

You’re gonna love it. Sorry for the wait.
I've got the 11 Pro Max and wouldn't be upgrading if it wasn't for a smashed screen and the complete loss of sound during phone calls (speakerphone works though). The 11 has been a good phone, and apart from the screen and sound issue still works perfectly ... 3 + years of 8+ hours use every day.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think the iPhone will ever switch to USB-C. The next iPhone will still be Lightning and the one after will rather not have a physical port at all than USB-C.

EU regulations are effective from 2024 onwards and Apple never specifically said they're gonna adopt USB-C, they said they're gonna "comply". Not having a physical port at all is also "complying".
Honestly, I see it like this.
In the EU, the iPhones will have the USB-C port while others will have the Lightning port. I don't know about Sim card slots tho.

The camera quality is going to blow you away! It’s a tremendous upgrade. I dint know if photos are a big deal to you or not, but I noticed a huge difference between even the 11 pro and 13 mini.

The 14 pro is even more amazing.

Oh weird about the sound. I bought a used 11 pro and the ear speaker was really low. I took to Apple Store and they just cleaned it out and it worked again… but I did read that 11pro had ear speaker issues.

After my 13 mini it is clear to me I do not want a giant phone. I want a “normal size” with the ultra features. NO to mega size phones…. I have 2 phones. A 12 ProMax and a 13 mini. I much prefer the mini size to the max size. The perfect compromise is a “normal size phone” with the latest and greatest features as I roll my phones every 3 or 4 generations. AND, no USB-C = NO new purchase. FULL STOP!!

I'm baffled why someone would upgrade just because it has a different charging port.

Yeah it will be great, but it's well down the pecking order on reasons to upgrade, surely? It's just a bloody charging port that Apple will no doubt cripple with USB 2.0 speeds on the non-Pro phones, just like they did with the brand new 10th gen iPad. I'm sure they'll gimp it on the Pro's as well. It's what Apple do as they want people to pay for extra iCloud storage.

I move a lot of files from my iPhone 13 Pro to my Mac and back and forth. Lightning is painfully slow to do that, and AirDrop is not a realistic alternative because it fails the majority of time with large files.

So you better believe the iPhone Pro getting a high speed USB-C port is worth upgrading to

Zzzzzzzzz. Innovation is dead at Apple. Honestly, what they hell are we paying all this money for? Dynamic island considered a “premium” feature. Jesus wept….

Apple is selling iCloud. You should be able to access the data on your phone from your mac w/o doing anything at all.

I'm not paying for cloud storage just for the simple process of getting files on and off my phone. Also...bro...you seriously gonna suggest I get iCloud after all the controversy with it? ESPECIALLY AFTER THEY RAISED THE PRICES? You're out of your mind.

I'm sticking with USB-C on the iPhone 15 Pro.

Nothing confirmed yet. I will be surprised to see Apple going the step backward to wired data transfers after pushing to go wireless for years.

Prepare to be surprised then. Full wireless is far from ready. Going full portless now would be suicide due to the sheer amount of functions that still require a wired connection.

Of course a periscope zoom takes up more internal space. Instead of having the lens on top of the sensor, it's next to it with the zoom optics between them.

This is the Ultra 22 camera array, want to guess which of the four is the Periscope zoom.

Here are the Xperias you mentioned, guess which camera is the periscope zoom.
View attachment 2124101

Here is the P30, you can see that its 5X periscope zoom takes up more internal space than the other cameras.

The Pixel 6 Pro's zoom is almost the same size as the two separate cameras.

Now all that being said, it really depends on what the other cameras are. If thew 15PM has the zoom and two cameras, that array may not take up more space that the 15P's four cameras.

Did you notice the huge difference between the Xperia’s I’ve mentioned vs the Samsung?!

Also let’s compare the camera assembly of the Xperia to the iPhone 14 Pro.

Got any comparisons there?! 4 cameras vs 3; I’ll wager the former is smaller than the latter.

It’s in how you package the camera and what focal length is trying to be accomplished.

Are you really that pedantic? It came out in 2021. We're talking about the iPhone 15, which would make the 13 two generations old. 🙄

We - as in this article you're commenting on - are targeting/talking baout people who are considering upgrading to the iPhone 14 (Pro) - which has been out 3 months - now, suggesting they should wait another 9+ months and get the 15 instead. As of right now, the 13 is 3 months "old".

iPhone 15 'Ultra' is a year away from now, and it will probably be a few hundred more than the 14 Pro Max.

On basis of both of those, pass!

As do I and never once have I done it via cable unless it was a hour plus video. Even then, those eventually sync via dropbox after getting uploaded to YT from the phone. Cables for transfer have never been a thing since the 4S. It was slow then and wifi has always been faster.

Bruh, we all know the next iPhone is better. Hey why not just wait for iPhone 20 instead of 15 as it is faster

You are moving the goalposts. Your original point was that "Periscope lenses that provide optical zoom do NOT take up space!" which I have disproven by showing examples of how a periscope zooms are almost twice as large as a non-zoom camera used by the same manufacturer. You can extrapolate from this that any zoom module Apple uses will have a similar proportional size increase compared to the single camera module Apple uses.

As I said in my post that you responded to, if Apple replaces two cameras, the main and tele, with one periscope zoom the camera array will not occupy more space, but Apple wont do that because a zoom which supports 48MP and offers the same fast f1.78 aperture of the main camera and f2.8 aperture of the the tele, not to mention zooms usefully past 3X, won't fit in the phone without making it a lot thicker; the Samsung zoom is f4.9, the Sony zoom is f2.3 - f2.8, and the Huawei zoom is f3.4, and none of them are used as the regular main camera on their phone.

So what is most likely is that Apple will either replace the tele camera with something that is close to twice its size or add the zoom as a fourth camera, both options mean that the Pro/ProMax camera array will occupy either more or a lot more internal space than if it didn't have a periscope zoom.

We walked into Best Buy (U.S) on the Saturday after Black Friday and bought two 14 Pros, the colors we wanted, and on sale. Guess we got lucky.

I don't believe an "ultra" will be next year for the "15". 15 regular gets dynamic island, 15 pro gets camera, spec, maybe usb-c.

16 maybe we start to see significant design changes.

ok wait, stop. You’re telling me the next iPhone is even better than the current iPhone? Imagine that. Didn’t know that could happen.

Each keynote since Steve Jobs and repeated by Cook has only said, “this is the best iPhone ever” each every damn year haha. Great title man.
