I'd love to watch some Captain Mexico or Captain India movie someday
Just saw it this afternoon. Now this is what superhero movies are supposed to be -- fantastic and yet down-to-earth enough for the non-comic book fans.
I was a little skeptical of Chris Evans being Captain America, after seeing him as the Human Torch (oh, that reminds me, there's a great bit in CA, but I don't want to spoil!) in the Fantastic Four movies (which I didn't think were that bad), but after seeing this I'm glad he took the part. He's perfect.
Hugo Weaving, always amazing at any part he does, is fantastic as the Red Skull. As for Hayley Atwell, the female love interest... Rrrrarrrwwww! Wotta babe. And there is a link to another Avenger in this movie... I won't spoil that either.
One minor nitpick...they couldn't have name-checked the Howling Commandoes?!?
you ARE Captain America
Our Crusading Captain Canuck can whup your Captain America any day of the week, twice on Wednesday matinees.![]()
Hey- they're friends. They wouldn't fight each other.![]()

They already made four movies about the best Canadian superhero, and in a straight up fight he'd (much to my chagrin) put Cap in the dirt.
Just got back from seeing it.
O...M...G...
It was amazing. I could not have hoped for it to be any better. Chris Evans was flawless as Cap, Hugo Weaving nailed the Red Skull, Tommy Lee Jones was his usual brilliant self, Hayley Atwell was a perfect Peggy Carter, and Stanley Tucci- well, I could go on forever. It was pitch-perfect.
I made a friend go with me who hates comics and superheroes. He brought his iPod Touch in case he got bored. The iPod Touch never got touched. His jaw dropped. He loved it too. Afterward, he says, "What a beautifully made movie. It was like those old action adventure movies! I was not bored for one second. They better make another one!"
I have no doubt they will. People were cheering and clapping afterward.
It has been a dream since I was a kid to see Captain America done justice on the big screen. Well, they finally did it.
Thank you Joe Johnston, Chris Evans (I cannot thank you enough sir, you ARE Captain America) and everyone else for putting so much into this film. I had to wait til I was 44 years old, but I finally got my wish.
Saw it last night and it lived up to the hype. Great fun! We know the Avengers is coming next summer, but my wife was reading that many of these actors, like Evans and the guy who played Thor, have signed multiple movie contracts. It will be interesting to see how this comic book model of storytelling transfers to the big screen.
What I mean is the paradigm of having multiple leading characters functioning in both their own titles and in a team title. For those not familiar with comics, superheros like The Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine, etc. all have their own individual comics and at the same time have a team book like the Avengers or the X-Men. Fans buy them all.
With the X-Men they started with the team films and then branched out to the individual Wolverine movie. With the Avengers they have done the individual hero movies first (Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and now Captain America) and the team movie will follow. I don't think the X-Men have any other individual characters besides Wolverine that can pull off their own movie. However, the Avengers characters have proven to have the star power to be successful. I wonder if they will try to run the movies simultaneously like they do the comics, a Captain America or Thor sequel at the same time as multiple Avengers movies? Hmm...
Ah, Captain America, truly showcases the American psyche.
It's a glorified steroid tale.
Ya know what? You need to lighten up today. Have a little fun. Good god. Everything is not that serious. Just from what you said, I can tell you didn't bother to see it.
I'm going to see it at some point, as I'm sure it will be tons of fun and entertaining. I'm just pointing out that people tend to overlook the subtle messages in our media that have crafted our culture here. "kids are listening", remember Lee?
