OK, the day has finally come! Going to see Cap Sunday! The reviews are mostly very positive, with the best reviews coming from the big critics. Very excited and can't wait!

It was great. I saw it at a midnight show last night. Exciting, good effects, solid. Schmit was a great bad guy.

Definitely stay for a surprise after the credits. Totally worth it.

Just saw it this afternoon. Now this is what superhero movies are supposed to be -- fantastic and yet down-to-earth enough for the non-comic book fans.

I was a little skeptical of Chris Evans being Captain America, after seeing him as the Human Torch (oh, that reminds me, there's a great bit in CA, but I don't want to spoil!) in the Fantastic Four movies (which I didn't think were that bad), but after seeing this I'm glad he took the part. He's perfect.

Hugo Weaving, always amazing at any part he does, is fantastic as the Red Skull. As for Hayley Atwell, the female love interest... Rrrrarrrwwww! Wotta babe. And there is a link to another Avenger in this movie... I won't spoil that either.

One minor nitpick...they couldn't have name-checked the Howling Commandoes?!?

Going to see it at 2 on Sunday. Can't wait!

Just got back from seeing it.

O...M...G...

It was amazing. I could not have hoped for it to be any better. Chris Evans was flawless as Cap, Hugo Weaving nailed the Red Skull, Tommy Lee Jones was his usual brilliant self, Hayley Atwell was a perfect Peggy Carter, and Stanley Tucci- well, I could go on forever. It was pitch-perfect.

I made a friend go with me who hates comics and superheroes. He brought his iPod Touch in case he got bored. The iPod Touch never got touched. :) His jaw dropped. He loved it too. Afterward, he says, "What a beautifully made movie. It was like those old action adventure movies! I was not bored for one second. They better make another one!"

I have no doubt they will. People were cheering and clapping afterward.

It has been a dream since I was a kid to see Captain America done justice on the big screen. Well, they finally did it.

Thank you Joe Johnston, Chris Evans (I cannot thank you enough sir, you ARE Captain America) and everyone else for putting so much into this film. I had to wait til I was 44 years old, but I finally got my wish.

Hey- they're friends. They wouldn't fight each other. ;)

Oh?

I have a feeling our guy is a bottom, and not by choice. ;)

I can't wait to see it!! Just got back from Comic Con and the vibe the movie was generating was pretty darn cool! Lots of C.A. stuff around everywhere!

Hopefully seeing it tomorrow!!!!

Saw it last night and it lived up to the hype. Great fun! We know the Avengers is coming next summer, but my wife was reading that many of these actors, like Evans and the guy who played Thor, have signed multiple movie contracts. It will be interesting to see how this comic book model of storytelling transfers to the big screen.

What I mean is the paradigm of having multiple leading characters functioning in both their own titles and in a team title. For those not familiar with comics, superheros like The Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine, etc. all have their own individual comics and at the same time have a team book like the Avengers or the X-Men. Fans buy them all.

With the X-Men they started with the team films and then branched out to the individual Wolverine movie. With the Avengers they have done the individual hero movies first (Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and now Captain America) and the team movie will follow. I don't think the X-Men have any other individual characters besides Wolverine that can pull off their own movie. However, the Avengers characters have proven to have the star power to be successful. I wonder if they will try to run the movies simultaneously like they do the comics, a Captain America or Thor sequel at the same time as multiple Avengers movies? Hmm...

I'm excited for The Avengers, but more so for a Cap sequel. I can't wait to see what they do with that. Hopefully, Sharon is in the picture, and maybe even the Falcon.

That's what I'm questioning. Do you think they will continue to do sequels of the individual heros or is it just going to be the Avengers and sequels to that from this point forward? I think they could pull it off, but the timeline and organization of projects would be challenging I assume. Maybe they do an alternating schedule with an Avengers movie one year, individual sequals the next year, then another Avengers movie the next, etc. etc. I think Captain America and Iron Man could support sequels, but I'm not sure about Thor and well, we haven't seen or heard of any more Hulk projects.

I guess in truth it doesn't matter. The movies are just like comics in that they can "reboot" or do however many different stories or versions that they want. I mean look at Superman and Batman in cinema for example.

I guess I just expect more from Marvel for some reason. I'm not sure why as they are redoing Spiderman.

Ah, Captain America, truly showcases the American psyche. :p

It's a glorified steroid tale.

Ya know what? You need to lighten up today. Have a little fun. Good god. Everything is not that serious. Just from what you said, I can tell you didn't bother to see it.

I'm going to see it at some point, as I'm sure it will be tons of fun and entertaining. I'm just pointing out that people tend to overlook the subtle messages in our media that have crafted our culture here. "kids are listening", remember Lee?

And for the record, I'm actually having a pretty good day, about to go play some basketball with friends now that the heat wave is broken. I'm just pointing out something that I think most tend to overlook in our media driven culture. I think you mistook my post for me being in a bad mood or something, the first line was actually supposed to be lighthearted (while making a point) but Lion decided to autocorrect my emoticon. :p

Yes, kids are listening. And the message here is a good one.

And not everything has to be political.
