iPhone jacking/snatching is big on the SF streets and muni buses. these's at least one everyday in our local paper's daily crime blotter. (i.e. punk yanks it outta your hand and then runs off (if not socking you in the face first)) ... Take it from our DA:

iPhone robbery may be San Francisco's most popular crime. Assistant District Attorney Brian Buckelew says "Probably half the robberies in the city are iPhones. Some days there are three iPhone robberies on the court calendar.''

No doubt. My BIL is a cop in ontario and they had him go around late last year pretending to be a teen and just see if someone would pull a weapon on him for his 3gs.

There was serial iPhone theft at my high school. Probably ten were stolen from the same class throughout the year, and no other phones (that could've also been stolen) were taken. Of course, I happened to have an iPhone.

I never have my phone out in the subway unless it's absolutely necessary. When I do have it out, I always make sure I'm gripping it in a way that won't allow it to be snatched away easily. I also have this weird subconscious thing where I hold my phone with one hand and have my other hand automatically becomes a fist, ready to attack any douchebag that even looks at my phone the wrong way :D

If you live in big city / high crime area, you wouldn't think "you better kill me I won't let my iPhone go." believe me they will. Don't get killed just to protect your god damn phone.

I'll protect my phone within reasons, but I always have insurance that covers theft, and I'll keep my life intact.

I don't have my phone out when I roam the streets or use public transportation.

Just don't draw attention to yourself.

one of the perks of living in a college town in wisconsin. this kind of crime doesn't happen. your more likely to get puked on if your walking through downtown around midnight.

I live in a concealed carry state as well, in a major metro area (Minn/St. Paul) and I never hear of this happening.....wonder if there's a connection?

Same here... except now no one needs a permit for a concealed weapon. Arizona laws just changed!

Same here (except in Tx). Another perk is that since damn near half of the campus seems to be rich, they'll be more likely to have the new iPhone then try to get yours.

I'd rather have the high crime though. Even Radioshack had their pre-orders completely full an hour after they opened. Don't even want to imagine it Thurs.

Concealed carry here as well with enough hollow point .40 cal between myself and anyone who chooses to attempt to victimize me.

I can not imagine living in a state that does not allow that.
