"You're using the wrong car.""You're plugging it in wrong." - Steve Jobs
This really is better for the user, thank EU
It is not like the EU came up with the USB-C format during their forest picnic last week-end, it was there for years and Apple were already planning to switch over about a year ago. So this time it is Apple who need to own it.
I'm not sure Apple is at fault. The change to USB C might require software updates by the auto makers.
Wireless CarPlay avoids the issue.
The old USB A-to-C cable that I got from IKEA several years ago works just fine for CarPlay in my 2018 Chevy Volt. What kind of janky cable is everyone else using?
Actually, I'm considering the possibility of getting a WiFi Converter for CarPlay. Any suggestions? I know Temu is selling one for $39.00, but who knows what surprises it may bring.
Apple did say 11 years ago that Lightning would last them for 10 years on the iPhone and Apple was amongst the first tech firms to use USB-C with the MacBook. Thanks EU.
Go to hell.
Agree. Every time I bring my car into the dealer for maintenance and ask if there is a software update available for my in dash system they give me a puzzling look then tell me no.Good luck getting automakers to update software.
Nah. CarPlay works fine with my 2017 Kia, iPhone 15 and a USB C cable from 7-11.Fantastic. A glimpse of the future when you have an actual Apple Car and they decide to renew cable connectors. Yep. You will need to buy a new Apple Car too. Stockholders rejoice!
My car is from 2022 and it doesn’t have a USB type C port either lol2019 SUV. USB-A only for CarPlay.
I am confused why you are confused. If your 2021 truck has USB-C and wireless CarPlay than obviously everyone else’s car does as well? Maybe you just don’t know much about cars?
Ford Sync system can be updated pretty easily using CyanLabs. It is weird the manufacturers built in the ability to update the systems, but the decided not to support it. Luckily with Ford people have worked around it.Agree. Every time I bring my car into the dealer for maintenance and ask if there is a software update available for my in dash system they give me a puzzling look then tell me no.
The issue happens with the cables that Apple provided in the box with the phone. This has nothing to do with cheep cables.I'm very surprised that some people here don't know that most cheap-junk USB-C cables don't support data at all. Cables and adapters sold "for charging" just don't have the right wiring for data. It's that simple.
Do you have the 15, or 15 Pro? The Pro has a different USB-C configurationI got this one and working great. I wanted a short one and got the 1.6 ft. It’s a good looking cable too.
Using with 2022 4Runner.
I happen to agree with you. 👍
It's way too early to be able to determine what the cause(s) is (are). Everyone's confirmation bias is on full blast. (mine included... see below)
Some will blame the EU. Some will blame cheap USB-C cables. Some will blame cars with Car Play. Some will blame Apple.
