Such a joke they put in under powered USB ports to begin with. Straight cash grab to install and software upgrade. Could easily do both on my own.
Easily for some - not for others. For the squeamish, have your unit installed professionally with a warranty, you could really mess your console up if you aren't careful. Aftermarket units are sometimes like house renovations, not everything fits perfectly.
Yeah i just got a new car and thought wow great CarPlay.
SNOOZE.
Come on Apple This could be so much better. Kind of a Joke.
It's limited. That's the point. You should be looking at the road and not playing with your phone.

Would love JEEP to do something like it. I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a huge 8"+ "U-Connect" LCD screen, CarPlay would look great on it. Would gladly pay that fee (honestly even more) to get CarPlay working in my 2014 model.

I just called my MA dealership and was quoted 485 for my 2015 Mazda 3, GT. Anyone getting a lower quote?

Does anybody know if Toyota offers anything like that? My 2018 Camry is equipped with Toyota's Entune Micky Mouse system. and upgrade to CarPlay would be nice.

Woohoo! Finally will get it on my 2017 6GT. Just have to find the time to leave my car there for a few hours...

SiriusXM on CarPlay is garbage. Half the time you launch it and your favorites and recently played channels don’t show up and sometimes nothing shows up on the screen. Awful.

Does CarPlay suck for anyone else?
Mine is riddled with problems. When I make calls people hear an echo of themselves back. Depending on when I plug my phone in, it will sometimes connect and others it won't. It will just randomly disconnect. It happens over multiple phones, multiple OS's, and multiple model of phone. Its very frustrating.
Sounds like a problem with your car. The echo, for sure, is a poor implementation of your mic, speakers, and lack of noise canceling.

I have used CarPlay across 4 different makes and it is a very different experience in each. My daily driver is a VW and it is a great experience. The Chevy and Ford I have driven with CarPlay are very slow to respond in comparison. The Kia used an underpowered USB port and my phone would lose charge while plugged in and it was 50/50 whether it would even connect at all.

My maps were outdated when I bought my F250. Sync 2 was terrible. I paid $1500 for a kit to make mine Sync 3 and am very very happy with it. I plan on keeping the truck for a long time and with map upgrades every year costing about $200 alone on Sync 2, I personally can justify it. Some can’t. It’s a choice. Waze on CarPlay is the best!!

I wish Ford had a $200 option for mine when I did it.

Can't imagine what a POS it was before the last update that allowed other apps to work in it.
I assume you meant other navigation apps? Because CarPlay has always had 3rd party apps.

Can't wait to have it installed in my 2017 3GT but the Canadian price is outrageous. I don't use the built in NAV to navigate, just to see what's around me. It's much simpler to say Hey Siri take me to.. If I can do that and get it up on my screen, that would be great. Otherwise the Mazda system is not bad.. have access to my music, podcasts, texts, etc without touching the phone. Hey Siri works great for simple tasks.

I am yet to see the benefit to CarPlay at least in my case. I have a new BMW and the CarPlay option i declined was extremely expensive. My iPhone is linked bluetooth to the car and I have access to all of the music and the contacts for the nav and audio system. I have handsfree phone capability and can make and end calls from the car with the phone in my pocket. i am very happy with the NAV system on the BMW.

I don’t need CarPlay but it’s more of the convenience. The interface on my car sucks (2015 Honda) and I would love CarPlay.

It’s also faster to input directions on my phone and maps are always up to date.

guarantee it is purely a software upgrade that just enables higher power on the port. not a chance they are swapping out hardware for that price but they will charge you a labor rate regardless.

Yay! Now I can call my dealer for them to say “what’s CarPlay?”
We were looking at some new Camry’s at a local Toyota here. The window sticker said Apple CarPlay compatible- available in future software update. The guy at the dealer insisted that this only meant Siri eyes free. Needless to say he lost the sale, didn’t even know what he was talking about.

Mazda's are very reliable cars with some of the best transmissions in the market. Its just unfortunate they're not as big as Honda or Toyota. If only more people chose their cars instead of Chevy and Ford...

Bout fraking time Mazda. They promised me this 3 years ago. Better late than never. I’ll be adding it to my cx-5.

Because it allows you to use third party apps now like Waze. Perfect for cop traps.

The 19s have Apple CarPlay upgrade coming soon on a window sticker. It’s the same software as the 18s, so there’s hope.

Mazda has only been talking about this for a couple of years now. I thought this was supposed to be a free upgrade. I guess it's better late and $ than never.

Honda, are you reading this?
You screwed us over with the trial software on the 2015 CR-V and never give us the real deal. Finally made it a selling feature on the 2017. This is a $h!t move.

Maybe it's me, but CarPlay is pretty underwhelming. Especially if your car has built in navigation. The only thing I use it for is sending and receiving texts.
Actually, no.
It all depends on how good is the onboard navigation system.
The traffic info may not be most up to date comparing to Waze.
