With the launch of so-called iPhone 12 models inching closer, mobile carriers are in the process of preparing marketing materials for the devices, as evidenced by a placeholder email shared by reputable leaker Evan Blass today.

As widely rumored, the email indicates that iPhone 12 models will support faster 5G cellular networks. The email also suggests that pre-orders will end on Tuesday, October 20, and while it does look like iPhone 12 models won't be announced until next month, carriers are unlikely to be privy to any specific dates this far in advance.

Apple is expected to introduce four new smartphones, including the iPhone 12 in 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch sizes and the iPhone 12 Pro in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes. Rumors suggest that all of the devices will feature OLED displays, 5G support, and a new flat-edged design, while the Pro models are said to feature a LiDAR Scanner and a new dark blue color option.

In the meantime, Apple has announced that it will be holding a virtual event on Tuesday, September 15 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time that will reportedly be focused on new Apple Watch models and perhaps the rumored iPad Air 4 with slimmer bezels.

I'm also wondering whether the event will be exclusively about Watch and iPad. It's scheduled as a two-hour event. Sorry to read too much into the marketing for the event, but "time flies" seems to refer to a time of flight sensor. Plus, why are we getting AR objects. Sure, perhaps the new iPad Air has a Lidar Time of Flight sensor...but, that's nothing new as the iPad Pro has it already. I don't know one way or the other. But, that's my justification for seeing the new iPhones earlier than the leakers are suggesting.

It is possible that Apple will announce the iPhones and start pre-orders at the September event for an October launch
I think only if they'll atleast have some new iPhone models ready to ship at the start of October (rumoured both 6.1 models for example) with the remaining models maybe coming at the end of October. Apple wouldn't announce iPhones if none of them are coming out for 1.5months. For every iPhone release there has been atleast one model available almost straight away after the announcement event, usually with some other ones coming at a later day (iPhone 8 immediately, X later - iPhone XS/XS Max immediately, XR later).

Mark my words, Apple will announce all iPhones in the next event with shipping set the following month or two.
I really start believing that too, why all the hype and Twitter hashtag for an event with just an Apple Watch and iPads?

Also, apparently they're calling the event "Apple Special Event" on their SEED app, though it's not referred as to "Special" anywhere else. Maybe to continue the discussion about whether or not we will see iPhones.

T-Mobile is rolling out a version of 5G but it's pretty much just slightly better than what's in use now. If you mean mmwave 5G then you're probably right. It doesn't even go through walls so it's just for downtown streets
Verizon barely has 4G LTE at my house. AT&T still has their old 4G not LTE. Barely anybody has any of the other services because they don't work here.

I don't see Apple holding an event just for Apple Watch and lately iPads don't even get an event. Maybe the ARM MacBook but who knows
Mac and iPad events are usually after the September keynote, there for sure will be another one dedicated to Apple Silicone maybe late October as usual or November.
