Weird - my college crosses a city/town and Carrot weather updates this, but I drove to LA (2.5 hours) and it didn't update until I opened the app on my iPhone. I also accidentally activated Airplane mode when trying to read an alert - so that could have been the cause too.

I spent some time this weekend to take another look at all the weather apps out there. Could not believe how terrible some of the others are (accuweather, the weather channel, NOAA, etc...). Popups every time I opened the app, terrible displays, etc... Sticking with Carrot for now. WU's app is getting horrible too - their website crashes all the time.

Is anyone here a previous user of BeWeather?

I had been a long time user of that app but I've been getting fed up with how unreliable its watch complication has been for a while. I'm ok with hourly update intervals but now it seems when I glance at my watch it gives me the correct temperature and current forecast... from two days ago. o_O Though I'm wondering if this is a WeatherUnderground specific issue (in which case anyone pulling data from that service should be noticing similar issues.)

I'd love to give Carrot a try but I'm confused as to how to properly activate push notifications so I can get the latest forecast and important weather alerts on my Apple Watch. Am I still required to purchase the Mac App AND sign up for a subscription to enable active push notifications straight to my watch?

I've noticed WU problems - which led me to Carrot. As long as you get the premium package after buying the App, it does notifications consistently to the watch (or at least it has been for me). Mac is separate and expensive - I haven't gotten it - the Mobile app is pretty expensive but vs the "Do you want XYZ wallpapers now?" every time I open AccuWeather or The Weather Channel, I'm gladly paying for Carrot. When I'm rich enough I may get the Mac version cuz WU's webpage is almost unusable now.

Thanks for the info! Wondering what's going on with WU. I loved BeWeather because it combined the live forecast of Dark Sky with WU updates in a pretty interface. Now it seems to be getting pretty wonky. Storm has still been reliable so far but it's more storm oriented (obviously). I remember back when the Weather Channel app was awesome, and then they changed it to this bizarre endless scroll format, stocked with ads and videos that made me really question whether I wanted to live anymore.

I was curious to see what other weather apps are topping the charts these days but Apple's app store is LOLZ.

You know what I'd love to see with the Mac app, the ability to change wallpapers dynamically to fit the current weather conditions. There was another app like that but it's very basic in functionality and only does a select limit of wallpapers (you can't customize your own wallpaper). Seems like a little thing, but if Carrot included that feature on the macos app it would be an instant buy for me.

I'm fully paid up with ultrapremium subscription and have Carrot for Mac, iPad, iPhone and Watch. I take my hat off to the developer for a great app and his ongoing engagement with us here.

One question I have on the Watch is this. Why does the "large" complication (eg centred on the Modular face) often display one temperature while the "small" complication (eg in the corner of the Simple face) displays another? I think the latter might be showing "feels like" even though I have this toggled off on my iPhone. Any ideas?

Edit: I'm a dumbass.

Excuse me if this has come up before but after paying once for the upgrade I've been pretty dissatisfied with the accuracy of the weather data. Im seeing it's often wrong. For example It would show me snow when it's actually sunny outside. A number of completely wrong details like that. Although the weather alerts are great, these kind of errors are very disappointing.

Unfortunately this happens. I’ve even had weather underground tell me it was raining when there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Out of all of them WU seems to be the less error prone. But yeah you’d think with today’s tech ... :/

I’ve got the poking her ocular sensor achievement...
Wait...there’s an achievement for poking her Ocular Sensor? Which one is that?

Edit: A dozen pokes or so and I won one of these. I couldn’t be happier.

It all depends upon the weather station...the app just conveys the information. In my case, I paid for all of the Carrot upgrades because the Dark Sky forecast model is absolute garbage in Phoenix. Dark Sky is usually just fine for current conditions, but then again, so are my eyes. I need forecast information and that's why I paid extra to get Weather Underground information...their forecast is usually spot on.

I didn't mind paying once for an upgrade but out of principle wasn't going to pay again. I have over 150 apps. None of them ask for premium and then ultra premium upgrades. One upgrade I understand but beyond that is starting to come across as bait and switch to me. Especially since after paying for the 1st upgrade, the number one reason for the app (accurate weather details) was not met. I get better results from the free Weather app.

I can see what you're saying but the premise that the free weather app is better is incorrect - some of us actually like seeing more data than just temperature and some of us like getting weather warnings. If all you're interested in is the basic temps / high/lows with winds, go for basic weather app - it actually does its job fairly well ( though users complain about location not updating ).

Dark Sky has taken a big tumble over the last year or so - their app reviews show it, and that's a paid app. I hear it used to be ok. Even WU's app is near garbage. I just think these companies aren't making enough $ to survive because most people are just happy with a free high/low temp with wind.

I agree. The weather warnings are a nice feature but when I look at the weather details sometimes and it show me weather that is far from the actual weather it kills it. Btw I only use the app and complication in the Apple Watch and rarely use the app in iPhone.

I'm very stingy, but 49p/month or £3.49/year to get notifications and apple watch updates, when set against the developer's own operating costs for using someone else's data doesn't seem unreasonable.

In the UK we also have the BBC Weather app which is decent enough, and the Met Office app which has all the official weather warnings (because they are the publishers), but has a pretty crap UX, and ads. Carrot Weather is well worth it (I still have 5 weather apps installed on my phone...). I also love the achievements and secret locations.

Well, I paid for the ultrapremium to use the WU data, however, the watch complication is still failing to update location consistently unless I open it up on the phone. I am hoping this is a bug that is being worked on. I don't think it's just me, because others have seen the same.

The location issue has only cropped up in the latest release - it’s been fine for several years now. Hoping that Maker of Carrot is aware, but he does have a new Baby Carrot in his life so this may have slowed things down somewhat.

I've been having some battery drain issues so I've been testing some apps in Theatre Mode to see if they are the culprit.

Carrot app and complication activated. Battery life after 12 hours 86%
Carrot app and complication removed. Battery life after 12 hours 91%

5% usage every 12 hours for 1 app seems excessively high. That's 20% battery usage in 2 days.

To test as well - I uninstalled Carrot and hard reset the watch. Only had 1% loss last night vs 3-8% normally. I should have done one or the other (uninstall/hard reset).

I know Carrot mentioned 48 updates? over the course of a day. Makes sense it would have some effect on battery life. This is with the ultra-premium membership. Would be cool to have a battery saver option someday.

That is not high at all considering what the app is and what it is doing in the background.
