I tried a case but couldn't get on with it - phone wouldn't slip back into my pocket easily etc etc. Just took the case off and used the phone as is.

My point is that I'm surprised at how well it's coped with the abuse and how well thought through are the materials. (It's a previous version white one so I've had it a few years now.)

I really don't look after it well and OK, it's got the odd scratch etc - but they were obviously designed to work well without a case. I think Apple did a really good job with them.

Can people stop posting their 'pocket set ups'

I can't tell if this is a serious thread or not lol

Hmmm...

Heres my setup:

Front
Right: keys and wallet
Left: iPhone 4 32GB Black

Back
Right: quarters and breath-mints/gum
Left: nothing

Whatever floats your boat but it seems just a tad better to have gum and/or mints in the front pocket and not pressed up against my rump. If I asked for a mint or gum from someone and they pulled it from their back pocket I'd be declining it. Just sayin'.

I'm a lefty...iPhone goes in left pocket with screen generally facing my person (My quad may be rock solid but not as rock solid as concrete if I fall :D ) headphones either come up under my shirt and around my neck or thrown in a ball under my iPhone in my pocket. Wallet goes in right pocket with keys and misc. items I might have for the day...under no circumstances will my iPhone go in my back pocket...Gosh my girlfriend does that it drives me nuts!

Since we've turned this into a "what's in your pockets" extravaganza, I'll jump in on the fun.

Front Left: iPhone and headphones (coiled up under iPhone)
Front Right: Keys, change, misc
Back Right: Wallet
Back Left: nothing
Cargo pockets (if I have them): Sunglasses, other miscellany.

Pocket dust is a big concern with me also. Therefore I keep my iPhone in an iKonicEdge pouch. The phone slips easily out of the pouch fopr use so it's as close to a naked phone as you can get. www.ikonicedge.com

Mike

I was going to rag on you for this, but that is a sweet pouch right there. $50 is highway robbery though, so I'll go ahead and rag on you.

What happens when dust gets inside of your pouch?

Consider yourself ragged. ;)

I think you'll just have to accept that.
I don't really care about scratches anymore since it's going to happen anyways.

I don't know why is such a problem to have a case and screen shield. If you want a separate pocket buy some kind of leather sleeve. I have vulcan black case for my 3gs and a screen protector and i don't have to worry where i put it, and the phone looks all black and stealth-y. On the other hand if you rockin it naked....just don't care. My friend is carrying it naked for two years and the phone is in worst shape ever. Back side all cracked and apple logo erased form scratches...no shine on the phone whatsoever, chrome bezel destroyed. He is using it like every other person and it is fine.

I mean...if you want it naked then don't be a p...y. Live with the scratches and dents and be cool about it. If you want a case...find a real cool one that you like.

The worst thing is rocking it naked and then write on the forums...I dont like cases but OMG i have a scratch....but how... i don't carry keys with it

Where is your common sense... of course it is going to get scratched...maybe not today, but in a month, or two..yeah....just live with it

Yeah I agree. Thats pretty much my mindset. I will still be cautious, but like I said, I have one of those micro-outer-layer scuffs so I am already accepting the lack of perfection. It took awhile to work up to that, but now I can just free my mind.

Dont get me wrong, if someone handed me an old school style stick of gum that was just sitting in their pocket all curved to the shape of the booty and havin that booty warmth, I would decline too.

But I am buying those fancy new gums that are in packets and have cardboard boxes and mint boxes so its a lot more protected.

Its not like its a lone single stick of juicy fruit or spearmint gum from back in the days in my back pocket.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, I always take this precaution too so I dont bump into some hard surface or corner and scratch through the pants potentially (or dent).

OP: Good Post. I've been recommending a dedicated phone pocket ever since the Treo, but I haven't met anyone who's taken me up on it, so I enjoyed seeing this from you.

FRONT
Right: iPhone
Left: Keys, change, comb, mints, lighter, misc

REAR
Right: Wallet
Left: Garbage (papers, mint wrappers , disposable credit card receipts, etc)

Surprised a lot of u carry wallets on front pockets.

Left pocket : ip4 with Sena ultraslim
Right pocket : keys and spare change

Back Right pocket : wallet

If you do a lot of sitting, a wallet can wear a hole in your back pocket long before the pants are worn out.

Anyway, iPhone front left and nothing with it, 'sept for maybe a piece of paper (grocery list, etc.)

I don't really use a case anymore, I found that if I just dedicate one of my pockets, (the left) to only the iPhone and make sure to never put anything in that pocket and put everything else like my keys and wallet in the other pocket

Welcome to Common Sense. How long you had a phone? LOL

I never have. Some of you must sit on your keesters A LOT! A wallet in the front pocket to me is unorthodox.

im surprised you guys trust you back pocket with your wallet!

FRONT LEFT: iphone
FRONT RIGHT: wallet and keys (backdoor + car key)

This is the exact same setup I use and it works out perfectly. I absolutely hate using cases on a phone and I don't like screen protectors on my touch screen devices either (it messes up the feel of the screen). But I pocket my phone very minimally anyway. I prefer to either hold it in my hand or set it down on something soft (I don't want that radiation near my family jewels!). I only pocket my phone when necessary and with it dedicated to my left pocket and nothing else in there.

Pocket Setup:

Front left: phone
Front right: keys, wallet, and sometimes headphones if they aren't in my ear.
Back left: empty
Back right: a clean folded paper towel ( because you never know when you need one)

Nothing better than a dry sense of humor! Nothing! Please let me know of any you see! ;>)

This is...brilliant. I mean seriously genius. All this time I've been carrying my phone in the same pocket as my sand and metal shavings. I couldn't figure out for the life of me where all the gouges and dents came from. Thank you Bobby...thank god for you.

I've always done this, never had a scratch on my old black 4 and my new white 4, that is until I just dropped it on the top of my MacBook Pro two minutes ago  That little ding is going to bug me forever

I always put my phone (regardless how expensive) in a pocket that's empty. I also never put a case on any of my phones, just think they are pretty pointless. Only time I ever used a case on a phone was a few years ago on my Sony Ericsson Satio because I damaged that quite a lot that the side used to stick out and used to hurt my hand when being held so I needed a case to cover that.

What I really want to see are some youtube videos showing off some of these epic pocket set ups. Links, please?

I think it is funny that many are even posting their pocket setups. How lame is that? I thought the moral of the story is have common sense and dont put your phone in the same pocket as your keys, change and nail clippers or whatever else you carry in there....LOL
