Yeah, looks like a typo. The author hasn’t sourced any new info, it seems like a regurgitation of other articles.

Author also states “Apple says it aims to sell 200 million iPhones this year” which isn’t true at all. That info seems to be sourced from a Bloomberg article published last October. They seem to be referring to Ming Chi Kuo.
Thank you sir. Checking the sources is always a good idea. Unfortunately I went with the hype of a similar strategy to 7th gen iPad. Honestly if this would be true, I would most probably jump into the iPhone 9 train. If its just a beefed up iPhone 8, I think I’ll wait until the next 5,4” iPhone 12...

Although, quite honestly, what I really want ASAP is a polished iOS 14.

It’s nothing like the XR, and iPhone 8 “something” or iPhone 9 make it sound 2 or 3 years old from day 1. This iPhone is going to be around for a few years. Who wants a 9 when others will have 12, 13 and 14?

A name that makes sense to me is iPhone SR; there are others, get creative. With enough guesses someone here should be able to nail it 🤣
Not bad. I would have gone with iPhone Air

The new iPhone will feature a 4.7-inch display, a single-lens rear camera, thick top and bottom bezels, and a Touch ID Home button.
This has got to be the most unflattering description for a phone! Say some nice things like this is expected to be lightest, most compact phone in the iPhone lineup. :)

I am going to put up my naive size and say "well this case does not show the front side - so you will never know if SE2 (9) has Touch ID version ONLY or ALSO with Face ID version"
but at this point - we all know so well that there will be only one version (Touch ID) lol

Can we just call it for what it is? iPhone 6SSSS?

Thanks for another parts-bin iPhone, Tim, you cheap-o decrepit omelette.

It will be called iPhone Mini

Hmmm let’s think of names...

iPhone Ti. Touch ID
iPhone SR. ?
iPhone 8S. Why not?
iPhone SE Plus
Or how about plain old iPhone?

Let’s get a release date for this thing already!

I’m really hoping for a late March/mid April launch. A lot of members seem to think sometimes that this would launch during WWDC 2020, that would probably be the last time frame Apple would utilize to launch this phone, as that’s primarily not really about hardware as much it is software during that event. Otherwise, obviously we would probably see this in September. But then again, Apple did surprise us two years ago when they launched MacBooks in the middle of July, which no one really had pinpointed at that time.

It’d be a similar approach to the latest 7th gen iPad, which retained the same dimension but increased the screen from 9,7” to 10,2”
The 7th generation iPad has the same form factor as the 10.5" Pro and Air 3 except it's thicker because it doesn't use a laminated display. It is bigger than the 9.7" 6th generation iPad -
7th gen - 250.6mm * 174.1mm * 7.5mm
6th gen - 240mm * 169.5mm * 7.5mm

Yes! I’ve been supporting the iPhone Air name for this phone. It makes a lot of sense. It is essentially the iPhone counterpart to the current iPad Air.

I'd say iPhone Air makes sense. iPhone Mini would have been a great name if they kept the 4'' form factor, but this is too big to be called "mini". iPhone 9 sounds old as we have iPhone 11 and soon 12, so either they chose something similar to SE or they can pick Air since it is used for the iPad and the Macs as well.

"basing designs on rumors, leaked schematics, renders, and other details." - Really? I have always assumed that this information was available by bribing the right person.

no, it doesn’t make sense.
the SE was 3rd iteration of that form factor. (5, 5s, SE)
“SE2” is 5th iteration of form factor. (6, 6s, 7, 8, SE2)

That's what i meant.

Apple sees the old 4 inch form factor as outdated and too small (and so do i), so the 4.7" iPhone 6-like design is the new 4".

4" --> 4.7"

4.7" --> 5.8" / 6.1"

Honestly let's wait until September 2020 and see what Apple does then... what about the potential 5.4" model?
