$399 is about the cost of replacing the back glass on an iPhone 8. Will it really be an iPhone 7, still with no wireless charging?

wish the se 2 would be same footprint dimensions of se original but with larger display area
looks like not
looks like se 2 will be slightly larger - wish it would be $200 price point - it wont be

This will be a good phone to get for the kids during Black Friday or Boxing day. I'm sure this phone will be free from my current provider by then.

A name that makes sense to me is iPhone SR; there are others, get creative. With enough guesses someone here should be able to nail it 🤣

That makes it sound like it's iPhone "Senior", which is not correct considering it is the junior-most, price and specs wise among the current crop of iPhones. Maybe iPhone Jr then?

There are many dumb discussions on this forum but this has to be one of the dumbest.

if rumors are true, Apple isn't getting it. Many are not looking for the SE2 to be a budget phone but a SMALL iPHONE!
Using the 8 and just flipping a chip internally is not going to offer these people anything they want!

Clearly the follow-on to the SE will be the SF. Ties into their California theme, too.

Then, in five years, the SG, for Singapore, I suppose. And following that the SH, for ... Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha. With a refresh every 5 years or so, and 20 letters left in the alphabet, that'll cover the next hundred years.

(Personally, I like the size of the 8, will be looking closely at the 12 when it comes out. But I have a number of friends, relatives, and coworkers, who have SE's - or 5s's - and would love to upgrade but want an iPhone that's roughly SE sized.)

Might make "sense", but that unfortunately is very little comfort to those of us who use the SE specifically for its physical size.

Such a drag.

I really hope that "smaller Pro 12" rumor is true and it might fit the bill for something "sub 4.7 class" sized.
I think the screen on the current SE is too small for today's standards. Ideally, a full-screen SE would be best, however, don't you think battery life would be terrible in that case? Unless it was mad thick.

Not gonna happen. But maybe the 5,4” iPhone 12 will be close to that. Slightly smaller than iPhone 8 with a bezel-less screen.
Since when do we have a thumbs down icon in the forum? And how’s that going to invite to a healthy and productive discussion? A perfectly sensible and respectful comment got downvoted, and this is only the beginning...

I’m afraid that’s gonna make me comment less and less because you know how unpopular opinions are: people don’t like them, don’t like to hear them, and people usually like to think like “the masses”. I’m a free-thinker and that’s gonna make me collect a lot of thumbs down. Bad decision Macrumors, you did well when you removed the downvotes ten years ago, and now you’re implementing them again...

@lpc2 because I like to speak things, and not go downvoting silently, I’m going to repeat that a new iPhone 5 is not going to happen, merely because there’s not enough space for main board, the screen folded inside the phone, the battery needed for 5G etc. But I’m astonished that you downvoted me even when I said that probably we’re gonna see a smaller iPhone 12, an iPhone slightly smaller than an iPhone 8!!! Man, if for you an iPhone smaller than the 8 is still big, you won’t find any smartphone in the future. We all loved the iPhone 5 design, as much as we loved the iPhone 4 design. But things change and evolve. Move on.

Do I want a smaller iPhone? Of course, and we will see one this year probably. Are we going to have another iPhone SE with the iPhone 5 design? No, just not gonna happen, and I’m not the one to blame, so your downvote honestly doesn’t make sense.

I may understand a downvote to someone who disrespected someone, but we already had a Report button so... I just don’t get it. @arn and mods, honestly, I don’t think I will keep using the forums as I did until now, and if I do it will be to say what everyone wants to hear, like “yeah, give us another 4 inch iPhone”. Absurd.

wow, so this is really happening, huh!

I think Tim & Co. simply don't care about anything in this space other than to have "some option" at a certain price point.

They have all the tooling and parts to hash together some garbage effort updated/rebadged iPhone 8 and so they are taking the least expensive route to release something that can last longer receiving half baked iOS software updates, each one itself full of new and unfixed bugs year over year.

It is beyond me how people don't see that this leadership is corrosively destroying all the fundamentals of product, design and quality that made Apple what "it was" -- all for margins and revenue and stock price.

This is not really a surprise given Tim's background and expertise. It always flows from the top ultimately.

pretty much.. it would be nice if it was something worth presenting as something on its own, but i'm sure it won't be. although they will present it like the best new thing))

If this fell on April Fool's day, i'd be laughing like hell..

everyone makes cases, then Apple changes at the last second.

call it iPhone 9

fashion is a odd companion, 10 years ago people wanted mini mobiles phones, as screen wasn't important, now people want huge screens as they can be all day watching their phones, who knows, maybe in 10 years people will be tied to a small screen in their wrist or in their glasses.

thing is SE 1 from factor was awesome, as a true revolutionary once imagined. Reduce bezels, make it a bit wider, a bit shorter, put face id, and you would have something interesting.
Smartphones are ridiculously tall (can't really fit on my pockets)
thumbs can travel wide but not height and text size depends on wide screens not height!!

iPhone 12 is going to be more up this alley. Just wait a bit more.
