Are you kidding? Front Page?!?

This is one of the worst mockups I've seen. First off, the software version is waaaay too old. But the real kicker is... WHERE IS THE CAMERA APP!?!?!? Why would you make a mockup of a camera on an iPod Touch and not include the app that you would need to make the camera function.

Arn, again - why the front page?

It's only a mockup. The design is expected to look similar to it, but not identical (that's of course if this is even real).

The software shown is nearly always some (old) stock image for these type of renders.

I think there a two big questions with the new iPod touch. First, will it be a fully functional VoIP phone complete with FaceTime camera? Secondly, will it have retina display?

Without these features, why would anyone upgrade? With these features, wouldn't Apple be afraid of cannibalizing higher margin iPhone sales? It'll be interesting.

I hope not.

Why not just make it the same as the iPhone 4 minus the phone features? Anything else is going to look like last years leftovers.

Brushed aluminum back like the iPad anyone?

Remove that clear shell case and the rest looks exactly like a small iPad. Seems plausible to me! Except... no plastic antenna spot? The iPad has a plastic Apple logo for the WiFi antenna, and past iPod Touches have had a plastic patch in the corner

But maybe these are just mockups by someone who knows the “general idea” but didn’t think about the antenna.

OR maybe they’re mockups by someone who really knows nothing but the camera placement. (It’s hard to imagine Apple giving a case maker real production photos—just dimensions maybe.)

Or it’s all a hoax again :)

Good points. It seems to me an iPod Touch with a retina display and VoIP/FaceTime would be a great device for customers who are happy with their non-iPhone phone and happy with their non-AT&T carrier.

Hi,

I'd have hoped for larger than 64GB given that it's the current maximum.

s.

True. If there si a 128GB model, it really will be hard for me to resist.

I honestly only want an iPod Touch for the "better-than-iPod-classic" interface, more than any camera or facetime or retina display. So give me more "iPod-classic-like" storage.

Many problems with this rumor/story:

  • No Black strip like previous models to show where the wi-fi antenna is.

Looks like Apple Rumors bit the bait
You know that the stripe divides the WiFi+BT antenna from the GPS+UMTS antenna on the iPhone 4? If you omit the later, how much antenna dividers do you need? ...exactly, that's right.

Beside that, it's an iPhone 4 with a Apple Pro Mouse-like acrylic case. I like it, kind of oldschool. Someboy should have come up with the "Hey, remember the Apple Pro Mouse? Let's just coat it with transparent acryl, that will fix the antenna"-though before.

This mock-up is terrible, but I do have high expectations this year for the iPod Touch. Last years updates were unimpressive. I simply stuck with my gen 2, which is heading towards death, so let's see something big Apple!

I'm on the fence as to whether I believe the design of the new iPods will be as risky as the iPhone 4. But keeping along the lines of a mini-esque iPad with brushed backing sounds about right.

I dunno about his render, though.

I've been waiting for a camera

Thats all I want is a camera in the damn thing and I will gladly upgrade my ipod touch 1st gen!
Cmon Apple what is the hold up?
Until then I'll keep using my ipod touch which is on its last leg.
Its been through hell and back :apple:

Ghm , why the hell iPod G4 would be on iPhone OS 2.0+ ???
I think it must be at least at 4.0 with new dock or with wallpaper..

This source is very reliable since it is already thanks to it that we were able to predict the camera on the iPod Mini last year.

iPod Mini??? CAMERA??? LAST YEAR???

Conversely, I hope so.

It looks like a small iPad, as it should.

The functionality of the iPod touch is closer to the iPad than to a menu-based iPod, or to the phone considerations of an iPhone.

The only thing about this mock-up, is that it is still called iPod. It should be iPad, iPad 5", or iPad mini... but I can see why Apple would want to keep a name change under it's hat until release day, and still referring to this under the old name until that time.

As per the big rumor roundup yesterday... there were a few of us thinking that a 6-6.5" diagonal Retina screen form factor would be good, rather than keeping it truly small like iPhone, or getting a bit big for a pocket, like the rumored 7" iPad.

BTW... for the comment about it being a fail, because it doesn't show a front facing camera... the face of the device is probably photo-chopped from existing iPt, and iPhone4 screen shots, and a black bezel can hide the pin-hole for a front-facing camera.

The design could still hold, even if the non-operational form-factor buck for case manufacturers has a blank black front. they probably also have a technical schematic for the dimensions of the IPS screen, and sensor locations on the front, if there are any, like a front camera, or an ambient light sensor.

I hope they do align the successor to the iPod Touch to iPad, it makes the most sense.

Two iPods (main, which is now called nano, and smaller, an evolution of the Shuffle)

Two iPads (big display 9.7", and smaller pocket size, like shown here) that resemble the aluminum laptops, MacMini, AppleTV, etc...

iPhone standing on it's own aesthetic design, with similar workings and iOS to the iPads, but with the added function of cellular phone hardware and service.

Guys, seriously, real or not, the old interface is to be expected. Even cases for the 3rd Gen iPod Touch still has OS 1.1 screenshots. Yes, not even 1.1.5 or something decent - the old 1.1, with no software pack, no customisable icons, etc. That just how it is. And again, fake or not, don't you think they'd have thought about that themselves?
