I had a LifeProof case on my iPhone 5 and do currently on my 6s. Keeps them in mint condition. I like to protect my investment.

$8.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L1F1OV6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Used one on the 6 Plus, 6s Plus, and now 8 Plus. Multiple drops on the concrete floors at work... never a shattered screen... never a damaged phone exterior.

For me protecting the investment is the obvious thing to do... and I don't feel sorry for the people posting the "I dropped my phone and cracked the screen" threads... those threads go good with popcorn.

Caseless on that $1000 phone? Suit yourself. Just don't drop it. That would truly be a shame. :D

I wanted to go naked with the 8+ but for a $1100 phone I just feel more comfortable with a case on it. And like others said, it stays on the charging pad a little better too. I'm still in the debating phase because I got my phone yesterday.

I just know if I went caseless it would be sliding around in the car, it would get nicks, scratches, and battle damage.

When I took my 6s+ of 1.7 years out of its case and took off the screen protector it was 100% perfect.

That said, I really want to go naked. Putting a case and a screen protector on the thing means I can use it without worry, take it anywhere, do pretty much anything with it. $9 for an Anker case. $5 for an Anker tempered glass screen protector. Peace of mind? Priceless.

Still debating though. My screen protector comes in the mail today so I have to decide by then. Definitely leaning towards a case/screen protector again this time.

I never had used a case. My experiences

iPhone 3GS - Kept it for 3 years. Got scuffed up but the main issue was the headphone jack eventually became pretty bad and cracked around it
iPhone 5 - Got scuffed up but was extremely durable. Best iPhone I had.
iPhone 6 - Smashed the front glass 7 months into ownership. Didn't replace that smashed glass the entire time I had the phone(I just got rid of the phone a week ago for the iPhone 8). Also headphone jack was starting to become very weak.

I am on the iPhone 8 right now. Haven't gotten a case yet. I'm still debating this :/

On my last 3 iPhones I used them caseless. I carry the phone in my right front pocket, by itself. No coins to scratch it, etc. I carry everything else in the other pocket. Personally I think the phone looks significantly better without the case. And it’s not as fragile as you think. And, AppleCare takes care of a couple of broken screens.
Same. I've had my 6s Plus without a case since launch without a case. I've actually dropped it multiple times. I've never broken the screen. There is a small, hardly noticeable scuff on two different corners. Otherwise, people tell me the phone looks new.

Drives me nuts when people use the term "investment" in reference to a cell phone. Spending a high dollar amount on something doesn't make it an investment.

That aside it's great to see that people can abuse their expensive, fragile devices after slapping on a cheap case. Personally, I find that when I use my phone without a case I'm more careful with it. The one time I shattered an iPhone screen (iPhone 6) was when it was in a case and a glass screen protector. I'm sure I've dropped every phone I've owned at one time or another and the screens have all survived save that one exception.

I'll continue taking my chances and enjoying the design and feel of the device as it was intended. Those who choose the alternate route can do so free of judgment from me as I actually enjoy seeing the cases people choose.

I've come to despise screen protectors.

Particularly given the curved edges of the glass. I've tried several brands, none of them ever felt right (as compared to the bare screen) and the fit realistically was horrible.

I did have one on my 6S, and honestly, I also forgot how much better the display looks without one. I'm done with them. Enjoying the 8 the way it was meant to be.

This... I'm wondering if I'll enjoy my phone more without a case due to this fact. I know I treat my phone not as carefully as I could because I have a screen protector / case on it, which gives me some freedom, but at the same time, I think I'd enjoy the phone a lot more without.

It is nice throwing my phone into my Chevy Cobalt's cupholder without worrying about damage to the phone. But I want to go naked so bad! Ah, really torn... Always admired how members like eyoungren go caseless.

It only takes one drop for that glass to shatter.
There's been already many test indicating that the back glass obviously is not as durable at the metal back we had before.
So its up to you if you want to risk it but to replace the back glass is more expensive than replacing the front screen I heard.

What do you do for your phone?

Whatever turns you on or gets you off. Personally, I went caseless until the iPhone 4, then used a bumper. Currently using an Apple silicone case on the 8 Plus - it just feels a bit more secure in my hand.

What are your cupholders made of?? I toss my jet black 7 into my plastic cupholder every time I get into my car and the bottom corners are flawless.

Im with you on that. A cellphone is NOT an investment.
Its just a product purchased for general use like a TV, computer, a refrigerator, washer etc...
I get that people like to keep their things in good shape but its not an investment.
An investment to me is stocks, bonds, precious metals, real estate etc..

[doublepost=1506523997][/doublepost]Im currently using this Spigen case with a glass screen protector. My daughter dropped it a few times but the actual phone itself has no marks :)

I have been using this PITAKA case for the past 6 months and I'm never using anything else again. This has absolutely no fingerprints or dirt to scratches or nicks at all after 6 months of daily usage. http://a.co/3inkHhL
Fits the 8Plus perfectly as well and they're making one for the X.

I was gonna use just a bumper for my 8+ but then I saw how easily the back shatters. I'll probably do as others have mentioned and use a case for the 1st 6 months or so. Beyond that you tend to get much more accustomed to the feel.

You usually use the term "investment" on an item that will appreciate in value over time. An electronic device has almost zero chance of growing in value once used unless there is an extreme shortage in supply. (That is definitely not the case with the iPhone 8/8+.)

I guess I take an opposite approach. I'm going to enjoy it bare, and if I should drop it / IF my back shatters, I'll put on a case to hide it. :D

iPhone 5 - Got scuffed up but was extremely durable. Best iPhone I had.

My 5 took heaps of abuse and had no protection on it. Use to work on a mine site, it would constantly fall out of my shirt pocket when picking stuff off the ground, the power button was stuck and I smashed it on stuff to get it to press (dented the band in a little), was in a pit and the connection to the Bluetooth speaker was cutting out, so I threw in onto the road closer. Never broke the screen, and the best thing was when Apple had a replacement program for the sticky power button, I got a replacement no questions!

Call it what you want... it's still a lot of money spent on an item. I wouldn't really compare it to those items because you don't carry your TV, (desktop) computer, fridge, washer around with you on a daily basis.

One drop is all it takes to shatter the glass... I choose to not take the risk and instead spend $8 on a bumper case that protects all 4 corners of the phone and prevents the phone from landing directly on its face.

3 years running... not a scratch on any of my Plus phones. Money well spent.

If people wanna go caseless I say go for it... the "I dropped my phone and shattered the glass" threads go great with popcorn.

Yeah, as much as I want to go caseless, I have my Anker case on it now and I'll probably slap the tempered glass screen protector on it like I had with my 6s+ just for peace of mind. It works for me as much as I'd like to go naked. :p

I forgot to put on my old case today so I'm caseless for now. I plan to pick up the leather one at the end of the day, but I really want to pick up a decent bumper case and get a screen protector for the front (and back if they make them)

Yes, its definitely an expensive item.
Its not an investment product though :D
I dont know about the bumper, that does cover all 4 corners but doesnt cover the glass back. So its still a risk if it lands on the back.
Without Applecare plus I heard it would be $350 to get that repaired/replaced though. Too much money IMO.
We will have many people blaming Apple after they crack theirs for the decision of a fragile back piece for sure :D

As proven by multiple videos, the 8 won't shatter unless it's dropped from a height greater than about 6ft. So most drops will not cause the back to shatter. If I had an iPhone 8, I'd probably go caseless - and I'm quite a big case person. But when Apple do something to make their devices a little more robust, such as they have with the 8, I'm happy to take advantage of that. I loved the glass back of the iPhone 4 and I had that caseless too. But ever since then, iPhones have been weak and slippy.
