We are going to execute the dog for the owners mistakes. Why not send the dog to a rescue where it can be properly trained and adopted? As for the owner, an apology and a fine should be a given.

I own a mastiff. I know what the dog is capable of doing. I also know that he is a dog. It is my responsibility to properly post warning signs, to fence my back yard and to invisible fence my front yard. (I am not allowed an actual fence in the front.) He is a dog. I am his master. I am responsible for his actions.

This conversation is going nowhere. Have a nice day.

Sad that the dog has to be put down but as the child might well be dead if it wasn't for the cat then there really is no choice.

Awesome cat.
...But what's up with this lady? She checks on the kid then abandons him to fend for himself.
WTH? Raggedy-Ann-lookin'-ass mofo!

My guess is she told him to run inside. The boy started running right behind his mom.

The cat made sure they were ok if you look close at the video.

Yeah, the dog's OWNER needs to be put down. Nut'n worst than an irresponsible pet owner. Not picking up after their pets is the low end of the offense scale. Letting their pets attack people, that's a hanging offense.
I don't think the owner said, go get the kid on the bike!

After looking at the video again, I wonder if the dog thought it was protecting the child from that wheeled contraption dragging it around. We'll never know because we don't know how to speak dog nor do we think like dogs.

Dogs act based on training or lacking that on impulse.

What ? how does a dog "protect" a child against a tricycle by biting and chewing on the child ?

One would think the dog would have attacked the tricycle not the child.

Please explain.

He just likes dogs more than kids it seems

Now that is a pretty stupid assessment. The dog in the video appears to be pulling the kid off the tricycle. We don't know what the dog is doing but either way, the dog is being executed because of the owner failing to control it. The dog doesn't have a clue what it has done wrong but it will die.

Had you read the article you would know the dog bit into the child and caused him to get stitches and there were bite marks on his leg where the dog was "trying to protect the child".

Who say's cat's aren't cool.. This little boy was attacked by the neighbor's dog and the boy's cat comes to the rescue. The little boy is doing fine. The dog is being put down. The cat ? She deserves the best catnip around !!

Nothing cool about the dog being put down. As the cat behaved based on being a cat, the dog did too. This is the fault of the owner of the dog who didn't socialize and train the dog properly. I obviously don't condone the dog's behavior but it is correctable and certainly the dog should not have been off its owner's property (gated or other).

Look people. If you wish to discuss the pro's and con's of putting animals down please do so in the PRSI forum.

This discussion is simply about what the cat did. And what the cat did WAS cool. He probably saved the life of a small human being.

Thank You.

:)

In that we are in complete agreement. The cat was brave and willing to risk one or all of its nine lives to defend his/her human. Dogs may be our pets but cats own us.

EDIT: Hmmm can't seem to get this image to work.

The cat was defending its property. ;)

You think the cat rubbing against your leg is cute and a sign of affection? Nope, the cat is making you their pets. :D

Seriously, nice tackle by the cat. It is a rarity to see a story about a cat doing this. Usually it is a dog coming to the rescue, etc.

Then shouldn't the cat be the hero ?
