I have never been a pet owner, with a good part of that due to restrictions imposed by owners of private homes and apartment buildings. My preference would be a dog (probably a lab or retriever) ... cats simply creep me out in a major way and an extra effort is consistently made to avoid being around them.

I vote for cats.

I was bitten by a dog once, a dog I was told was docile. It was a highly unpleasant experience.

I hate dogs. Can't trust them.

Same here. The one I was bitten by was on a lead. Evil. Now I'm not a fan at all, especially of ones that come running up to you and their owners stand thirty feet away bleating "Rex, no. Come here. No. Rex, no". It's a dog! It will continue to irritate and terrify me until you come and pull it off, or I kick it really hard in the head. And I will not hesitate to kick it really hard in the head.

So yeah. Cats. I like.

God. Cats are so boring. And how can you not love a face like Marion's?

Both are cool but after having my first cat i would say cats. Our new Cat tells us when he is hungry, tell us when it time to go outside for going potty and lets us know when he wants loving. He has never had a accident in the house and doesnt even know what kitty litter is for. How do you beat that. Plus he loves to talk though i only understand a few of his different meows.

DOGS!!! :D

I was bitten in the face by a cat... I had a scab there for like a month. Stupid cat.

Anyway, my dogs name is Griffin....

Couldn't agree more. The dog in question bit through my upper lip in two places, which required my getting 35 stitches. Unfortunately I still have to deal with the owners of the dog from time to time, and have made it quite clear that if it ever comes in my direction again, I will immediately consider it hostile and take appropriate action.

Cats are never boring. They're even funny when sleeping :))):

ummm... and why is your F9 (?) key black???
It's not black. It's silver.

My F9 key broke off - the cat in the picture is a suspect, since he regurarly walks across the keyboard with his claws partly out  - so I got a new key from my local Apple Service Centre. They didn't have an iBook key available, so I got an F9 PowerBook key instead. It was free so I don't complaint... ;)

haha! it actually looks kinda cool.

Dogs definitely! Am currently dogless at the moment tho.
Our last one got over-protective of the grandchildren and even after several months of trying every sort of training, she eventually attacked a friend (who luckily was wearing very sturdy boots which took the brunt of the damage). We couldn't take any more chances so we had to have her put down.
Very sad, especially as we live on a farm, right on the beach - a real dog's paradise.

The woman's aunt says:

"Black dogs taste better."

No. Seriously. She's eaten dog.

What's the big deal with eating dog? Lots of people do it--more probably don't know that they eat dog. I usually introduce people to Korean food by starting them off with bul gogi...and then, calling it bul doggy. :D

Saying that black dogs taste better is like saying that brown eggs are healthier or tastier.

I've owned both... currently own 2 cats.

I agree w/ a previous poster-- dogs tend to be higher maintenance. It becomes bothersome when your whole household goes on vacation. Meanwhile, with cats, just ask someone to come over and make sure there's food/water/enough litter. :D

Plus, my cats act like dogs: they come when I call for them... but they weigh less and don't take up as much room on my bed. ;) Ooh, and super pllus? Cats groom themselves.

I unfortunately had to put my Yellow Labrador Retriever down on 12/30, 05, and I'm looking into getting a Brittany Spaniel puppy sometime in the Spring. Dogs are really great pets.

I've had some really bad experiences in cats, but I won't get into detail on that. It's a little too violent.

My dog Sky died around 10 days ago, so I understand. She had to be put down. Tears were shed. :(
