“If your a dropper the sheath is the wrong case anyway.”

I’ll be taking delivery of a 13 Pro Max today and have been shopping for a case. I have used Incipico for years, first with a 6 Plus and then with an X, which is what I’m upgrading from. I was about to purchase the Sheath after reading great reviews but stumbled upon this thread.

The quote above is worrisome to me. I’m an occasional dropper. Maybe once or twice a month on hardwood or tile, no more than a few feet. Then maybe once every 3-6 months on concrete, also no more than a few feet.

I come from using the Incipio (product link below) for comparison. Can anyone else confirm that the above statement is true for someone such as myself? Should I be seeking a more rugged case? I’ve always thought the case I’ve used below is a decent middle ground and would be comparable to the Sheath. Am I mistaken?

Incipio IPH-1632-BLK Apple iPhone X Octane Case - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075RFLPP...t_i_E6V76Z20J2D4QDEQYB3M?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I’ve used the Sheath on multiple iPhones over the years and while I’m not a constant dropper, I have dropped my phone in that case. I’ve yet to have anything bad happen.

I’m fairly certain I had that exact Incipio case for my iPhone X as well and I would say the Sheath is at least as protective as that case.

Obviously every drop is different, but my take is the Sheath is very protective against drops.

Finally got the new Sheath mesa blue case.

Are the Sheaths for iphone 13 bulkier than the ones for the 6/7/8? That's what I had on my previous phone and it's what I was hoping to get, but looking at pictures, it looks a lot bulkier. If true, is there something similar in thickness to the old Sheath?

It’s heavier and thicker due to MagSafe. Noticeably so on my 13 mini.

The back is thicker but the edges only look thick in pictures because the case lip comes up over the metal trim of the phone, in reality it adds half that thickness.
I wish there was a version without magsafe for reduce bulk and weight. The thicker part by the lightning port i understand why it's there but it should be more gradual and rounded. It can dig into your pinky a bit but not nearly as bad as the phone bare.

I honestly don’t find it to be a big deal, but it is a little heavier and slightly thicker because of MagSafe (as others have said). I mostly notice the phone being a little heavier (12 Pro to 13 Pro), though I’ve adjusted to it now.

I’ve had the Sheath for my iPhone 6, 6S, 7, X, 12 Pro and 13 Pro. I’d say it’s remained a very minimal case over that time and most changes have mostly related to design changes with the phone.

I've dropped my 13 Pro in the Sheath onto concrete, hardwood, tile, travertine, etc. a number of times, from heights up to 5-6 feet and landing at various angles. It hasn't damaged the case or the phone at all, both still look as good as new. No guarantees obviously, since every drop is different, but it's held up very well for me.

I was a long time user of the Speck Presidio Grip, I really liked that case and honestly I was doubtful about the Sheath when I first got it. Over the last 4+ months it has proven to be a good, sturdy case and I haven't found anything yet that I'd replace it with.

using sheath for 13pm my slight gripe on this is the grip. the rough texture helps on the grip, it is not as grippy as I thought it would be and when the temp is cold it becomes a bit slippery and making it hard for me to operate on one hand mode. however, I still won't let go of it as it is my slimmest semi rugged case that suits any of my attire imho. hopefully the grip improves.
also had the speck presidio grip2. even though it is slimmer now it still widens the phone for me.

I agree completely that it gets much more slippery in cold weather or with dry hands. That’s the result of it having zero tackiness to it. It’s still one of the closest to perfect cases that I’ve ever found.

The texture is my one complaint about the Sheath. While it's not bad at all, it's not near as grippy as the Presidio Grip (the older models, I haven't tried the current one yet).

to help with the grip, i just used transparent tape on the sides and middle and now the grip is fine. I might as well buy dragon grips on amazon.

Got the sheath (magsafe) after rave reviews, and... yes, the quality+fit seems pretty good.

But the magsafe is relatively weak but moreso the weight! On my iPhone 13 Pro this tips the scales in comfort, where I noticeably feel the weight... in a jacket pocket, I notice it. It just feels... much bigger and heavier all of a sudden?

Weighed the case at 41g. What are other slim/basic magsafe case weights?

Interesting. I don’t find the magnetic strength to be much different than my Apple cases. Maybe it’s just that the material doesn’t grip to the attachments as much?

The official apple silicone case is 25g for the 13 mini. So likely 30-33 grams for the standard pro size. Not that much lighter than the sheath.
I agree it feels heavy, the phone on it's own at 200g already feels 30-50g too heavy. However you will get used to the weight in a week or so. To me the round edge of the case makes it feel a lot more comfortable than the sharp edge of the phone pushing into you hand.

Yeah, me neither. I've been super happy with the magnetic strength on all of my Sheaths (we have multiple in the family). This is still the best case I've ever used. Not too bulky, excellent grip, strong MagSafe magnets, looks fantastic. fits like a glove. Well worth the money.

Abosultley love the sheath for my 13 pro. I like it better than the 12 pro version. Looking forward to getting the synthesis and maybe the lucid clear.

I think the MagSafe is plenty strong in the Sheath. I use a swivel desktop MagSafe charger, and pulling the phone off the charger can cause the mount to swivel before the phone releases. I have a Magsafe cupholder mount in my pickup truck, which rides like a....well, like a truck, and I drive on pretty rough roads, have never had my phone pop off the mount.

I’m changing my mind on the sheath. It adds significant weight to my mini. I’ve gone with an official apple silicon case and really liking the grip. Much better then the sheath.

The prior version were more light yes. I thinks it’s due to the MagSafe components.

I wish caudabe realase a Magsafe and a Non-Magsafe version of the sheat for people like me that don’t use magsafe.

That’s great if it works better for you. Everything has trade offs. You’ll have to deal with lint, shine, and peeling on the Apple silicone. Just a matter of what trade off you want to accept.

no issues yet after 3 months or so, except for a minor chip after I dropped it.

I've found the OEM apple silicon cases on ebay for $20 or so I don't mind it

Sorry if this has been answered before , how much does the caudabe sheath for 13 pro or PM weigh?

i only have it for the mini, so maybe that's on their website? all I know is that my hand gets fatigued a lot faster holding the phone in the sheath than other cases.
