Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a quick question about purchasing the iPhone 4S directly from Apple...

I'm with Telus and they require a minimum $50+/month plan if you want to get the iPhone. However, I have a pretty good retention plan right now, but it doesn't have any data. If I buy the phone directly from Apple, I can simply add data to my existing plan and keep the monthly bill low ($30-$40). It would be equivalent to an iPhone plan that's around $60.

If you were in my position, would you buy the iPhone directly from Apple, or pay $50/month for the subsidized phone and negotiate for the extra features? Does an unlocked iPhone command a higher resale value, or does it simply make the phone easier to sell?

Any advice would be appreciated!

I talked with a Rogers rep today about the $50 rebate. Turns out it is not 'mail in' at all. Once you get your phone, log into My Rogers and go into "Products & Services". Under the "Wireless" tab, select your phone number and you should see a link labeled "Redeem Rebate" underneath the picture of the phone.

The link is not there now, but I assume it should show up on launch day. Hopefully what he told me isn't a bunch of BS. My last upgrade was three years ago (iPhone 3G), so I (and others who are eligible to upgrade) should be eligible for the new customer prices that are advertised.

It's done either way. At the store we give you the mail in version if you would prefer to do it that way, but you definitely can do it on the website if you have a login already. Lots of customers don't like to do the online profile on the website.

Ah perfect, thanks for your confirmation.

I was #12 in line for a 64GB white version which is now "in progress" and it looks like I get the $419 + $35 pricing on it. That works for me as I can sell my practically brand new 32GB iPhone 4 factory unlocked for the same if not more monies.

Sorry to bump this up, but just spoke to retentions, and the rep told me that I couldn't get an upgrade obviously. But told me to call back tomorrow, as they were told they might be giving an early upgrade option. So it's definitely being considered.

Just an update for anyone going to a Rogers Plus store to get their 4S. My store got our shipment yesterday, and it was about twice as big as last years shipment. We got a total of about 60 4S models spread across the different sizes, and even a few 8GB 4s as well. Apparently some of that shipment will be allocated toward people's preorders, but we don't know how many yet. We're getting a list of preorders either today or tomorrow.

Thank you so much for the update, all the early number preorders (I was #30) still just say "in progress" and have not gone to the shipped status yet so it's nice to know the phones are already getting to the stores even though the statuses are not changing . :)

I was # 86 and just checked it now and...

In Progress

Excited !

Siri and I will become good friends and who knows maybe more..

Come on everyone sign the petition ASAP!!! There is only 280 signatures and there needs to be 10,000...so get signing!! haha

How about a petition to get rid of the new 30month hardware upgrade plan altogether? I think more people would fight for that cause, than an iPhone specific cause.
And that will inadvertently solve the iPhone 4S upgrade issue as well.

People already have it bad for signing up for 3 year contracts, and getting a hardware upgrade 2 and a half years is insane. We should be getting a hardware upgrade EVERY year.

Woo, I checked earlier today and sometime around midday my status changed from "OPEN" to "IN PROGRESS"! :D I was about #620 in line for the white 16GB (Fido).
