T-Mobile CEO John Legere tweeted today to clarify his company's free 200MB monthly plans for iPads on its network. He reiterated that "everyone" gets 200MB of free data with no strings attached.
Earlier today, customers trying to buy iPads on T-Mobile were told they would have to pay a $10 monthly fee to access the "free" data, contradicting an offer from last week.
Apple continues to have strong stocks of the iPad Air on its Online Store. Only the Space Gray iPad Air with 128GB of storage on T-Mobile is not in stock, showing an available-to-ship time of 5-10 business days.
T-Mobile is offering the 16GB Cellular iPad Air for $0 down and 24 monthly payments of $26.25 per month, with an additional $100 and $200 down payments for the 32GB and 64GB models respectively.

Your loss because you're not patient enough to let this get sorted out a couple of days.AT&T Next (assuming you have a Mobile Share Everything), at this point, is 0% financing and "unlimited" data (in a sense that it just eats from your pool) for $10/mo.
Seeing as I'm an AT&T customer already, this might be the route I go now. Really I am interested in the 0% financing, but I'd rather get more for a $10 surcharge. Lost opportunity on T-Mobile's part to get me to see what their network is like, and I'd imagine others as well. The reality is that I'd save about $40/mo with T-mobile, even without my FAN discount with AT&T -- I just don't trust the coverage.
Of course the ultimate irony is that prior to Legere's comments, I wasn't even considering a cellular iPad Air, only the wi-fi version. Now, on account of all this, I'm going to probably end up giving more money to his competitor.

I'm not so sure about that. The 0% financing is tied to existing accounts (or new accounts) as a CSR just explained to me on the phone. You can't get that without having a plan where you pay some kind of money, whether it be voice or data.
The free data is for anyone with an iPad. So if you pay for the device outright, or bring your own, you receive the data allotment. If you pay for a plan (500mb, for example), you actually get 700mb before you are throttled.
Bottom line, as it seems to be shaking out, you can't have both the financing and free data. Legere's comments last night on Twitter seem to reiterate that, sadly.

This whole thing is just a huge mess, in my opinion.
It wouldn't be so confusing, and have so many people upset if they would have just explained a little bit more. Yes, I agree many people are getting the 2 promotions confused -- free data for life, and the free financing over 24 months. It should have been extremely clear that the free 0.00 200mb does not count as a qualifying plan.
I would have surely jumped at this offer, had it been as lucrative as they made it out to be.
I and others previously in this thread were told the exact opposite. I am under the impression that I will be financed and eligible for 200mb free.
I saw it in writing from corporate! You have to buy $20 plan to get EIP. You're only hope is they honor previous sales, but you still signed up for $10 on demand, so they could hold you to that. I would not risk it, especially once I saw the email from corporate. Screw t-mobile. Will buy a refurb from apple when they come out and get on the free 200mb that way.
I'm a new customer on the installment plan. I have the 32GB model, fwiw.
There is nothing to that effect in my EIP, I think I'm going to see how this plays out I have not even received the device yet. There was really no confusion among the reps I spoke with.
T-Mobile website has been updated today.
I just ordered a micro sim card kit online for my iPad 4 for free (shipping also free), monthly charge $0. You have to ender credit card info even though it will not charge you. This is different from yesterday - yesterday you had to choose a monthly plan.
I hope it works out for people who bought one on installment. If you get it, cool...I did not want hassle down the road. I might be pissed I would have gotten the credit, but to wait months to find out. couldn't do it.
I just called T-Mobile and placed an order for a 16GB iPad Air with the On-Demand service. I tried doing it on the web site, but only the 500MB option is available. I was originally told my bill was going to be $26.25 plus $10.00 a month service.
After I asked about how the On-Demand service worked, the representative put me on hold and came back a few minutes later and said. The $10 fee will not apply. She spoke to someone who confirmed that there is a "nationwide error" going on and if I am billed the $10.00, I should call customer service and they will credit it back. She said "they are still working out some kinks in the system". She specifically stated my bill will be $26.25 per month which I can pay the full cost of the iPad off early at any time. All I had to pay up front was the tax and $10 SIM card.
Hopefully this works out, but I plan on paying it off quickly anyway on my terms so the 200MB will be free anyway after that.
How/where were you able to purchase this on the installment plan without agreeing to some kind of data or voice plan? Physical store, nor the CSR I just spoke to on the phone, would do such a thing for me.
fair enough indeed
to be clear, I did not have to go back to the store. I had the $10 on demand on my account, in writing. But since they raised the minimum plan to $20, I felt my chances were slim the $10 on demand fee would be credited every month.
