Was this $10 credit off of the $20 500mb plan? Because when I go on T-Mobile right now the cheapest plan option I see is $20 for 500mb.

I'm definitely not buying one of these until the dust has settled and I know exactly what the costs will be.

i bought it over the phone, and it is off the 10 dollar plan since i was able to order the 10 dollar plan on day one

Why don't we all just calm down and wait until Monday or Tuesday to start complaining and coming up with conspiracy theories?

It's been 1 business day since they launched all this. Why not give them another 1 or 2 business days to settle everything out?

I decided to go ahead and just order the iPad Air instead of wait the 2 weeks that I originally was going to. I ordered a silver 64GB T-Mobile iPad Air, 200MB data plan, financed for 24-months. You can still get the 200MB data plan and finance it. Unfortunately, you have to be a current T-Mobile customer to get the free 200MB data plan. I will be getting it by 11/6. I was also told that the return policy is 20 days but there maybe a restocking fee.

I am still surprised that I had to pay the $10 for the sim card + tax.

200MB Free Just Activated on Old iPad 2

Just to reiterate some scattered post about success stories, I just activated a new $0 prepaid T-Mobile Sim Card purchased online from Tmobile.com from a few weeks ago (the "Mobile Broadband" and "Prepaid Cellular" sim cards work exactly the same way), and it was a one minute process. Here are the steps:
- insert an unactivated T-mobile sim card (probably any version)
- turn on cellular data, turn off wifi just in case
- open up a web browser in Safari on the iPad - you are automatically redirected to T-Mobile's activation website
- (The webpage identified my device as a iPad 2, model Axxx)
- Enter in name, email address, zip code, and password
- Next page states free 200MB mo data until the year 2095, or something like that

No credit card information needed, no APN settings to update. Free data worked instantly. I wasn't even asked to purchase a monthly plan.

How/where were you able to purchase this on the installment plan without agreeing to some kind of data or voice plan? Physical store, nor the CSR I just spoke to on the phone, would do such a thing for me.

But now it's back to saying I have the $10 On Demand plan again. Can this please get sorted out?! #

how to activate tmobile 200mb free data for ipad

Here is how you can get free 200mb a month
turn off wifi and use cellular connection

If you activated ipad using existing prepaid account and it didnt work. All you see is option to buy data

you can reactivate without buying a new sim

1. Cancel and delete account from ipad from settings-cellular-view accounts

2. From same menu as above - do not set up as existing account- Set up as new account instead-

If it say thag your email is already register, just use a different one
this will reactivate the sim with a new number and you will see the 200mb of data.

3. No sign up- well just my name and a new email address - no strings

if you are a new customer just activate it using cellular connection

Dont forget to turn off everything that uses cellular connection to wifi only i try to keep chrome and gmail connected only.

If you do not see option to cancel - trying keeping wifi connected and cellullar turn on

I notice when i try to go to my.t-mobile.com and login with the new number i get the prepaid website is down message

If you purchased yesterday then you will get the free 200MB data plan. Today that has changed. Today in order to get the free 200MB:
  1. Be a current T-Mobile customer and add-a-line. Can Finance.
  2. Do pre-paid. iPad Air is paid in full.
  3. Bring your own iPad.

My experience

I switched to a post paid plan, here's my experience, new T-mo customer:

I found that, anyone who sticks in a T-Mobile SIM card (anything- prepaid, postpaid, etc) gets the 200mb free.

I went into a T- Mo store yesterday to see what other options they had for adding more data. I already had the 200mb on prepaid (I am a AT&T customer, who purchased a T-Mobile iPad, registered and got, the 200mb, free!)

They offered me a postpaid plan. Basically it's $10 a month, but then I get a $10 credit. Essentially I have to pay fees at the end of the month. It works out to $1.70 a month if I don't add data. And I get the 200mb a month. The benefit over the prepaid plan is I don't get cut off after I run out of 200mb, I just get downgraded to edge speeds. I can them just go and purchase a data package which gets charged at the end of the month.

Here's the breakdown of add on data packages for my plan:
$1 per hour for unlimited data
$5 per day for 500mb
$10 per week for 1gb
$20 per month for 2.5gb

My plan is called the $10 on-demand plan. But I get a $10 discount every month. So it works out to $1.70 in fees. I just pay the $1.70 + whatever data plan above a add-on for the month.

So if I'm stranded someone without wifi for an hour, I can add the unlimited for $1, verses, I know I needed a day, etc. whatever.

It's pretty awesome and versatile.
They have better options if you know you will use more, but I mainly use wifi, so I don't anticipate I will use more than the occasional $1 here and there. So this is absolutely perfect for me. Plus I love the fact I can use my free 200mb every month, then downgrade to edge speeds (prepaid just cuts out).

This plan also qualifies for their international, so if I go abroad, the plan works for their roaming partners as well.

Honestly, made me fall Iove with T-mo.
I called after I left the store to confirm. This is my plan!

Called the (877) number and also was told that the $10 will be waived, or as she put it, it will be "rolled off" come bill time.

We'll see. I asked her to add the note to the account to be sure.

This tweet isn't calming my fears.

I do have the 200MB plan working on a data only account that I haven't renewed in a few months. I just put it in my iPad and it worked instantly. Shows 200MB starter data for the plan.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57610605-94/t-mobiles-no-money-down-ipad-offer-requires-$20-monthly-plan/Looks like it is definitely $20 a month if financed. Thank god I decided to just buy mine outright.

That's the thing, though- I have the 32GB version, which is $99.99 up front, with the rest as monthly payments. So how does that work for me, since I didn't technically use the "no money down" option? I assume they'll lump me into that same group anyways. For the monent, though, I'm on the $10 On-Demand plan. Hope it can stay that way. (well, really, I'd like to have it for free like they led us to believe, but this is reality.. unfortunately haha)

Yes. Just go to http://www.t-mobile.com/ see it for yourself. It's right from the front page. It was different yesterday.

When I go there and pick a phone SIM, it's free. The Mobile Internet SIM is $0.99. (FWIW, I don't see anything OOS.)

Here's how I got there:
Front page (Learn more) > Bring your own table (Learn more) > Select your SIM card > Any SIM card / Mobile Internet (Add to cart)

It definitely is not. At the moment their system is not handling things right and you have to select at least the $20 plan. Once you place your order you can either call customer service and get put on the free in demand plan or do it yourself online.

I bought an AT&T model and put in a tmobile sim I got for 99 cents a few weeks back. Worked like a charm. Why don't you just do that?

That is exactly what I intend on doing. I don't mind fronting the $630, but I can tell you that as an investor, any time you have the opportunity to recieve 0% financing with no drawbacks - go for it. That is what was going to pull me into T-Mobile, then from there use their free 200MB network. I've been with AT&T for years, and am curious to see how other companies work.

Obviously T-Mobile is presenting shady business practices, so that to me is a complete drawback, and tells me to avoid them. Then again, if they man up tomorrow morning to all of their mishaps, even retracting certain CEO' statement, I'd be willing to test the waters since the company made the effort to apologize for their actions. We'll see....but I am feeling quite doubtful.

Why do they require a credit card to order the free SIM card? Only the phone SIM is available, which is free. The internet device SIM for .99 is out of stock.

Yep. I was going to go with the T-mobile with payment plan Friday, but no one in the store knew how it worked. So I bought the AT&T one outright and my T-mobile sim is on the way. $1.07 and far less sketchy.

I think they are still working on the stupid P.I.T.A website. It needs serious help.

I was on the phone for nearly two hours trying to get the 4.5GB plan activated on my iPad account. I already had the funds added to my account, I just needed the plan activated. The website kept asking for my CC # to charge me. I called T-Mobile, got transferred between 10-15 reps, back to the automated system about 5 times and then back to a real person and hung up on a few times just for laughs.

I finally just went on the website and got the 2.5 GB plan and that was only because it didn't ask for my CC# and deducted from the money I already had on the account.

After all that, the sim will not work on my iPad. I spent another hour on the phone with tech support trying to find out why. It will work on my Nexus 7 with no problems, just not on my iPad or iPhone.

I have another nano sim activated that just has the free 200MB plan that does work on my iPad. This has been a bad night of trying to get T-Mobile to work on the original sim that I have had working since buying the iPad in June. It stopped working when they added the 200MB plan.

So reading through pages and pages of comments here, other websites, I think I finally figured it out.

For new customers... It sounds like you can either do the interest-free EIP plan OR have the free 200mb per month. You can't have both.
The only way to get both is if:
You are already a T-mobile postpaid phone customer and are adding a tablet to your account.

If you are a new customer, you must pay for the tablet in full (alternatively, you can bring your own tablet to tmobile). Having the tablet paid in full allows for the 200mb plan.

Sources below: Taken from the tmobile website

Buy from us with interest-free financing.
We make it easy to get the tablet you want with our EIP interest free financing, with approved credit. EIP is exclusively available to T-Mobile customers on monthly Simple Choice plans (plans start at $0/month if you also have a voice plan with us, $20/month otherwise).

Also, they list 4 ways to get the 200mb per month free. Note that none of these ways would allow a new customer to t-mobile do the EIP plan and also the 200mb free per month.

Four ways to enjoy free data for life.
1. Bring your own tablet. Use a tablet you already own and love on T-Mobile’s nationwide 4G LTE network. Simply activate a Mobile Internet account with a SIM card.
2. Add a tablet to your T-Mobile account. If you already have a postpaid phone line with T-Mobile, add a tablet to your account and enjoy low monthly payments and 0% interest with our exclusive Equipment Installment Plan (EIP).
3. Switch over to T-Mobile. Let one of our award-winning retail stores introduce you to our selection of smartphones and tablets, and enjoy the benefits of EIP when you add a tablet to your phone purchase.
4. Just buying a tablet. No billing relationship required. Shop our selection of great tablets. They come with a T-Mobile SIM to un-leash our nationwide 4G network whenever you need it.

I think I finally figured it out, I am just disappointed. I am not a phone customer - yet. I am still on contract for another year.

tl;dr
Current tmobile customers adding a tablet to their account can get the EIP loan AND get 200mb free per month.
New customers can't have both.

NOTE: Who knows what tomorrow will bring though, since the message has been inconsistent.

tmobile is great

i switched my phone service to tmobile once i got the 5s, truly astounding
