Except that the $10 charge is credited back to you. So you end up paying $0/month.[/QUOTE]

no you don't get it. you only get that credited back to you if you start or have a voice line. I don't want cell phone service with them.

I'm done with topic. i'm sticking to wifi only

If you buy a tmobile iPad you get the free data, that's the deal. You do not have to be a tmobile customer.

If you want financing thru tmobile for a iPad it's a different deal.

there seems to be a lot of confusion about this. i wonder if Jeremy's parents know whats going on. They are always bitching about Jeremy using so much data that they had to sell his car. I hope they have a MacRumors account so they can clear this whole thing up.

From above: "Initially, you will be "charged" $10 per month for the on-demand service, but once you activate the 200mb complementary data on the iPad (as stated before) that charge will no longer appear on your monthly bill. All you will end up paying is the $26.25 fee plus the regulatory tax for the device every month."

lol nice once

Um... If it's unusued, then I don't see a problem with it. As long as it's not configured to work for the phone then it could work.

Did you order through the phone or online?

On the phone, online it is still 10 and the chat guys are pretty clueless…

Ok, update to my story-

I didn't know we could change our plan through Settings>Cellular Data>View Account. After reading about that, I went in and was able to change from the $20 500MB plan to the $10 On-Demand plan, which the T-Mobile rep said I couldn't have since I'm making monthly installments for the iPad. It's still not FREE, but it's an improvement.

refer to my picture ^ go to "no additional data" $0/month NOT $10

the $10 on-demand is bottom option, free option is at top as no additional data for $200mb free

note: I am on the $26.25/month installment plan as well.

I'm a T-Mo customer already, so this probably doesn't help all those who are looking to just get their iPads through T-Mobile financing without already being a customer.

I just picked up the iPad from the T-Mobile store and while I had/have issue getting connection through the data service, the payment and choices was clear to them (again, for me as a T-Mo customer). As of right now, it is a $10 charge, with a $10 discount applied to the account associated with the iPad's data. They said that this was their instructions on how to handle it currently, until the system is all sorted out.

At the store I went to, I did ask the employee if I wasn't a T-mobile customer how it would be handled (only one person's understanding, so take it for what you will): The process would be the same, activating a new line/customer and choosing the $10 plan, also providing a $10 credit to the account each month. Again this is currently how they are instructed to do it until the system gets sorted out.

I don't have this option while in data. I will look again

If I click no additional, "next" is grayed out so I can't click it

Not according to T-Mobile dept that handles iPads. The $10 is credited back no matter if you are current customer or a new customer. The voice service that is referred to on the website is the On-Demand data plan.

Besides, don't you think the CEO stating that the 200MB is free and then being found out to have lied would hurt T-Mobile. If he is lying then he will end up loosing a lot of credibility and T-Mobile will not attract the customers.

Call the dept that handles iPads and ask for Harris.

This is exactly how it was explained to be on the phone.

Mmmm, 200mb of data on the nation's largest 2G network. Think I'll pass, I made that mistake once already.

Yes, they have such a slooooow network.

It wouldn't let me continue with the No Additional Data option. I had to pick the On-Demand plan. Still better than the $20 plan I was told I had to have.

This was someone's answer to another user's question about what happens after you use up the free 200mbs. You don't get throttled. You get shut-off with the option of purchasing more data (daily, weekly or monthly options) or you'll just have to wait until your next free 200mb cycle begins.
Thank you. I like that...then I don't accidentally wind up with overages

I have an iPad 2 on Verizon. Can I get this plan for it if I get a t-mobile sim?

Yes, you can get the plan. All you need is the SIM card..

No, you can't. The above poster is wrong. The Verizon iPad 2 does not have a SIM card you can remove, so you're pretty much stuck. Even if it did, I'm not sure the cellular hardware would be capable of working on T-Mobile anyway.

The reason people are making such a big deal about whether it's possible to switch carriers on the iPad Air is because, unlike previous models, there is only one cellular model (ignoring color and capacity) across all carriers, whereas before there were separate ones for CDMA and GSM carriers (presumably because the hardware for both couldn't fit inside, but this is apparently possible now).

Here is an email I sent to the CEO of tmobile describing my experience at the store today:

Hi,

I went into a T-Mobile store near my home in San Diego today (the Carmel Mountain 92127 store) and tried to purchase the new iPad air, with the free 200mb/month plan.

The rep I spoke to (Alexander) said they do not have the free 200mb plan. He said "You have to buy a 2.5 gb plan, then you get 200mb for free". So he was trying to charge me $20 a month for data, when it should be free.

At this point, I'm really frustrated. I thought it was going to be easy and cheap to switch from AT&T to tmobile for my ipad needs, but I'm really confused right now.

Can you please tell me, is the 200mb/month plan free? I don't have a tmobile account, and I just want to buy the iPad Air on the installment plan, with the free 200mb data. But the rep said it doesn't exist...

I'd really appreciate it if you could help me understand this. Thanks!

Ryan Burgess

The rep either didn't know what he was doing or was trying to screw me over so he could get more commission. I wish this wasn't so confusing!

I'm actually in a t-mobile store right now. Their computer system can't handle the 200mb free plan. They have to set you up with a 500mb plan to sell it to you in the store. I had a customer service rep on the phone and they told me to just call after you get it and they will straighten it all out.

For all those that are being told outlandish things such as you HAVE to buy the 2.5GB plan in order to do the financing or anything similar that seems to contradict the CEO's statements, what type of store are you hearing this from? Are these corporate owned stores, or 3rd party dealer stores? Many times it's very hard to tell the difference, but dealer stores are notorious for flat out lying to customers in order to pad their numbers, such as "you can't buy this phone with X number of dollars in accessories", or "you can't buy this phone device without X amount of data". I even had a customer during my days as a sales rep at an AT&T corporate store who was forced to add 2 more lines to their account just in order to move to a rate plan with more calling minutes.

There are many good dealers out there, but there are also many who will lie, cheat and steal to make their numbers. And the owners of those dealerships are usually the ones pushing such practices. So I ONLY deal with corporate owned stores. I did with AT&T and I do now with T-Mobile. I don't know about other parts of the U.S., but here in the Southeast, if the store is a really small store or it's inside a mall, chances are it's probably an independent dealer.

Hope this helps some. Don't be afraid to ask if they are a corporate owned store or not.
