A material that is 3/4 gold is not pure gold.
24-karat gold is comparatively soft and not ideal for milling to high tolerances for devices like the Apple Watch. I understood the OP to be talking about the fact that the Edition watch is solid (18k) gold throughout the casing, rather than being gold plated over other metals.

I REALLY dislike the ceramic watch. I wanted to like it, but I just can't. It also sucks that a $1300 watch only really looks good with a rubber band. Stainless Steel FTW

Also, I agree with everyone who thinks the mickey mouse watch face looks dumb. Despised it since the day I first saw it. Never understood why it made people so giddy.

The white one is just to allow Apple to test the market, measure AppleCare ceramic repair costs and profit margins, and ramp up production. I predict that next year's Series 3 line will include a black ceramic watch for a $200 (or more!) higher price, and a white ceramic iPhone.

The ceramic Watch looks almost like a off white aluminum Sports Apple Watch. In my
Opinion, it doesn't boast anything in the category the Apple Watch Stainless does, which any band can pair with. I will give props to the ceramic being highly scratch resistant though.

This looks like an oversized toy watch for kids. . . A shame, considering its functionality .

I'm a Stainless Apple Watch owner and the ceramic honestly looks like white plastic. And this coming from an Apple Watch supporter.

that's funny because so many people said that about the original AW, but it went on to become a smash hit. oops. so much for subjective opinions.

I've got an Apple watch (and like it) but wouldn't say it was a smash hit.

The ceramic one reminds me of "The emperors new clothes"

My somewhat creative idea. Wish I could find a good orange band from apple so I could have a nice Halloween themed watch with my black band.

Looking at Ceramic, I feel the part where Apple failed the most is introducing strap lugs that's not compatible with all their AW models, if you go for the black SS model, you're out of luck when replacing to a different band with lugs as it'll likely come in silver SS which ruins the look IMHO, also if you have the Alu version of AW, same issues as well.

All in all, from a design stand point, I feel all this options when it comes to color and material wasn't executed properly. Do Apple even offer different color and material lugs?

hope apple adds a black ceramic version soon, which can match with the new jet black iPhone
Let us hope black ceramic edition is released on next Series. Black ceramic is better and more elegant than white ceramic.

Totally agree with the above comment.
