Sold for $1,250 (38mm) and $1,300 (42mm), the high-end model of Series 2 is definitely expensive, but still far below the first generation's $10,000+ "Edition" models that were made in pure gold.
Oh, Macrumors. You used to be a great site with high-quality writing. Now you're... I dunno. You're kinda like Apple in 2016: not what you used to be.

the new watch is actually thicker, this is the only apple device that I wish was thinner.

-------

TBH it looks like a kids watch w the ceramic and different colors bands plus the mouse backdrop. Doesn't look like its worth +890.79€ You can't even update your hardware inside. people spent 10k on a gold watch that is already outdated and slower than the new one. First world problems for the people that can afford the ceramic and the gold ones anyways.

Yeah, I know, but it's 0,9mm, so not really noticeable. But yeah, this is one of the few Apple devices that should be thinner.

It never was what it used to be (to my recollection). You picked up one problem with that sentence. I saw a couple others when I read it.

It's funny you say that. I don't have an Apple Watch yet, but once my Series 2 arrives, I plan to use the Mickey face. Because the last time I was a watch wearer, I was a child, and it was a Mickey watch. Nostalgia.
Some people are deathly afraid of appearing "childish" (the same way that some guys are deathly afraid of doing or wearing anything they feel might not be perceived as masculine). Have a little fun. Use the face(s) that you want. I don't use the Mickey/Minnie faces much (preferring the additional info provided by Utility, Activity Analog, or Modular), but each time I visit my 5 year old niece, she insists on switching my watch to Mickey, genuinely confused as to why anyone would use any other watch face.

Yes come on Apple!
Ceramic white bracelet would have rocked!
I'm sure they have those in the lab. Possibly they'll get released later (and that may also depend on how well the ceramic watch sells - if they only sell 100, they're not gonna make many accessories for it). But ceramic's Achilles Heel is brittleness - it's really really hard, but it can chip and shatter. The watch has one large piece of ceramic, with all broadly rounded corners and no thin edges to chip. The stainless steel link bracelets are almost entirely composed of small pieces with thin edges and corners, ripe for chipping. It's possible that Apple will never come up with a ceramic bracelet that they're happy with.

That's one expensive door stop!
I realize this is only one man's opinion, but am I the only one who can't get excited about that ceramic model? Seems like a lot of $$ for an extremely durable device you're likely to replace within a few years anyway.

At least the Gold 'Edition' model (vs1) had snob appeal for the well-heeled, but this ceramic unit's only claims to fame are a very nice white color and superb durability. What am I missing?

Gross - They should have made the bezel also white.

It would help the overall look.
Defo agree on this, I love the white iPhone, the black one is just not nice in my subjective opinion.

I'm confused as to why apple felt the need to do a ceramic version at all, surely they could have done a white plastic watch that would have been just swish. I think ceramic is great from a toughness point of view it's 8 times steel! But I gotta admit it looks cheap, so why not just make it out of plastics instead.

I think they shouldn't have had a gold watch in the first place either, it should be same aluminium colours of the iPhone.

The apple watch 3 might be on my list of things to get, I skipped the iPhone 7 and all the latest gen stuff. There's some special sauce missing from these latest lines, i only really want a new macbook pro.

I have a Rado watch that is fully ceramic, the bracelet in as good a state as the body. I really don't think it's that hard of a task compared to designing the watch itself.

Those combo's are so ugly!

1. The aluminum watch looks like it has more class than this.
2. This variation looks like a cheap plastic toy.
3. And with the Micky mouse face it looks like something you got out of a $10 basket bin at Disney World.

It will be interesting to see how long the Apple Watch 2 Ceramic lasts. I've heard that certain ceramic types can have 'grains', like wood, and that if the item is hit just right on a 'grain', the ceramic can split, almost like glass.

Still, it's Ceramic! I'd own one just because of that. If it weren't $1,300...

Because, fashion!

I've always wanted a Mickey Mouse watch, and had one by Lorus that failed within a few months. This way, I gcan get the watch I've always wanted, and can now get Minnie too, and all of the other faces. I just hate his impatient foot tapping...

Sure, post from someone on Reddit. I already posted in the MacRumors forum of my ceramic watch with 21 Apple band combinations. They look much better in person than they do photos. Also his photos aren't the most flattering view of the watch...

This looks like an oversized toy watch for kids. . . A shame, considering its functionality .

I love the look of the Apple Watch, but the ceramic looks terrible with almost every band...

It's becoming a cliche. With any and every Apple product posted on this site there is always a top comment calling it ugly.

These look amazing. Much better than what's in the main blog post. When you think about it, it looks indistinguishable from the polycarbonate MacBooks. It's either that look perfected, or an overpriced watch that look like plastic. I love it though.

I love it, even more than my series 1 black stainless steel at the moment. Photos definitely don't do it justice, I tried my best to showcase the watch in somewhat better light. Once you have it in hand and feel the weight it feels premium. I does remind me of the white 3G/3GS/Macbook/etc sometimes. Some people like it some people hate it, just preference. I'm hoping this holds up better with scratches cause the stainless steel ones definitely do get scratches, though less noticeable on the black one.

Those photos do look a lot better, but I still don't like it. Just a personal preference......not trying to start any arguments :)

BTW...OT, but when you say that the black SS shows the scratches less, is it a big difference. I like both SS watches, but I'm currently leaning towards black because I'd heard they were a fair bit more resistant to scratches than the normal SS.

Haha no worries I understand, everyone is different. I've compared my black ss to my friend's silver ss we both have the same amount of microscratches along the side of the case but you can see them a lot more clearly on the silver. On the black ss you have to actually hold it up in front of your face to see the scratches.

Thanks mate...that's good info. Will probably end up going with black then, as more visible scratches will set off my OCD. :)

I'm an Apple Watch owner but I went with the sports model to test them out. I'm still waiting on the "perfect" Apple Watch before diving into the more expensive ones, but I think the ceramic one is the most beautiful one after the black stainless steel. I love how "gummy" it looks, and just the fact that it's ceramic is really interesting to me.

Would get that in a heartbeat if it had more features.

But yeah. Personally I think the steel Apple Watch is just awful and I can't fathom how anyone likes it.

[...] far below the first generation's $10,000+ "Edition" models that were made in pure gold.

24-karat gold is pure.

The Apple Watch was 18-karat... that means 18 parts gold and 6 parts of another metal.

A material that is 3/4 gold is not pure gold.
