Why bother charging anything? Just use cords to power the devices directly.

Someone else mentioned an inductive desk. Same thing. Plug your mouse, keyboard and magic track pad into your computer and done.

No batteries. Wired power.

Yeah, I don't understand why everybody's going crazy over wireless keyboards and mice. Ok for a HTPC, but iMac? It's infront of you on your desk, you're sitting 50cm-1m from it anyway. I just don't get it...

My electric tooothbrush has an inductive charger.

My wireless mouse (MX Laser) has a cradle it sits in to recharge, and so do most wireless mice.

Why did Apple bring out a wireless mouse that needs you to open it up to change batteries... ?

If I didn't have a pretty nice wired mouse, and the fact I'm pretty sick of turning bluetooth on and off every time I want to take my laptop anywhere minus it's charger, that inductive charger would definitely make me get the MM, I almost expected apple to come out with something like that to be honest.

Your magic mouse suddenly costs 119.98, with a wire. The beauty of magic mouse is that it is plain and simple, a wireless mouse and absolutely nothing else. I always have an additional pair of rechargeable batteries charged that I swap whenever the mouse's batteries run out. I'd rather swap once every two months, than having a wire, pay an additional 49.99, additional desk clutter, and having to place it there daily for it to be any useful. Junk in my opinion. I now have one less thing on my desk, and a pair of batteries ready to be swapped away from sight inside a drawer.

+1

Also, I haven't read anything about the risks of having a source of electro-magnetic radiation running on your desk 24/7. Is that an issue?

what types of batteries are used in the magic charger battery pack? Lithium-ion polymer battery?

Just asking...

Ehm, so if you have that Magic Mouse charger on your desk with its cable trailing along what is the point in having a wireless mouse in the first place?!

I hope the iCade works with Capcom Arcade because if it does i will be buying the iCade for sure. :D

And then you have a wire going from the mousepad to the computer or whatever XD

I haven't made it through all the posts so forgive me if someone has already said this...

But you wouldn't need any additional cables/wires if Apple merely made the base of the iMac the conductive recharging surface... Problem solved.

Not the first as I thought!!!

I am sooooooo getting the iCade! I wanted one last year during april fools. I can't freaking wait for this!!!!!

Same here! I want to pre-order this now because they are going to be hard to get for a while. I also hope it will work with the 2nd gen iPad's since that's probably the one I will be buying.

If you watch the video the first game coming out is Asteroids!!!! I so want one of these. I can see this bad boy sitting on my living room table!!

I agree with that list 100%. Give me some Galaga and Joust and I would be one freaking happy camper!!!

Just watched this video and it says there is already some games in iTunes that will play with this:

Is the iCade controls available for other game controls? AFIAK, there is no API for game developers to read input from a keyboard, and there is no general bluetooth compatibility, you can only use headsets and specific bluetooth equipment approved by Apple.

I would have no problems buying the iCADE, but $100 and I'm sure each game is going to cost $5-10.... As others have said jailbreak.

Could someone explain why I should care about inductive charging? Yes you can set your device - and charge it wirelessly!!! - except for the cord plugging in the charger. It accomplishes nothing. When I can plug a device into the socket that can transmit power across the room to my device, call me.

I can't explain it to you. I think the whole wireless thing is a lame way of charging something. Soon enough people will have three "wireless" charging pads to accommodate their 5 or 7 devices (that would have only used 3 common USB cords in the first place.)

I use a corded mouse and keyboard at home for gaming. However at work I use a wireless. The primary reason is the ability to move my workstation components out of the way when I don't need them and without the hassle of tangled cords. Further, wires on mice do cause resistance to your mousing habits, get caught on items on your desk. Since I switched a few months ago, my comfort level at work has gone up and in turn I feel a bit more productive.

To all the other posters that don't get it, this charger means you no longer have to swap batteries. Every time you swap out you're doing damage to the connectors on the mouse and on the batteries as well as potentially damaging the battery door. You don't use the mouse on the charger base, it's just a charger. You continue using it just like you did before. In fact you can probably put the charger where ever you feel like.

I will actually gladly support this type of gaming with my pocket book. Hopefully if enough money and enough demand is there we will see more games released and not just from Atari either. Lets bring in some of the other favorites. Activision old school games come to mind!

Ehm, so if you have that Magic Mouse charger on your desk with its cable trailing along what is the point in having a wireless mouse in the first place?!

Ehm, what makes you think the cable is trailing along - you use the MagicMouse as before at put it at night on the charger ... nothing trailing along and the mouse is as easy to use as ever (minus the battery changing)

a good USB mouse is well over $10. of course, the Magic Mouse isn't a good mouse, but you still have to pay for the multi-touch.

I think I pay $20 AUD for my Logitech 'budget' optical mice, and I'm sure they're even cheaper in the US. So $10, $20, whatever… the guy still makes a valid point. I've yet to find any mouse that feels better in the hand than the cheapest Logitech mouse, and I'm using it 40+ hours per week. That's what Apple fails to understand when they keep coming out with these 'cool' looking mice — from the worst one of all, the original iMac pucklet, through the slippery pill-shaped models, to the current, shiny and sharp edged Magic Mouse. IMO, the old Apple Desktop Bus Mouse II was a superior ergonomic design.

Apple, the very company that brought the humble mouse to consumer computing, still can't quite get it right. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Mouse for the sad history of Apple mice!

Grow up!

i hope you are aware of the fact that apple changed their mouse about 5 times since 1998. so the mouse evolution will continue, and you can trash your charger soon too.

No one who does serious work, uses an Apple mouse. So your "argument" is pointless.

yes, veeery good! do you know that a permanent inductive field could cause cancer? so you have your cool imac 2020 with inductive desk, and a few years later you need chemo therapy. but hey, you didn't have a chord on your mouse! whow!

That is what we call progress! *lol*
