Obviously this CEO is not stupid enough to mention an unannounced product from Apple he signed an NDA! Come on!

Well, the phone is built mostly for Verizon, unlike the GSM/UMTS version sold by everybody and then some, so Jobs could have let him take care of the introduction... On the other hand, Jobs's keynotes are much more fun to watch.

The first rule about Verizon at CES: You do not talk about the iPhone.

The second rule about Verizon at CES: You DO NOT-TALK-about iPhone.

I mean, really: you would discuss that at a place without the presence of Apple or Jobs?

It would have been like the one guy last year who hours before the iPad launch acknowledged the device.

A Verizon iPhone will be like Duke Nukem Forever...I won't believe it until I actually have a working device/game in my hand.

Seriously, at this point I won't believe any website. I won't believe any news item. I won't even believe it if and when Steve Jobs himself says it's so. Until I physically see an actual Verizon phone IN MY HAND AND WORKING will I believe it. Otherwise it's all bullpucky.

we should flood the YouTube CES videos with comments and let the world know how bad their tablets suck

Not just the WSJ, but that's beside the point.

Nothing you've pointed to makes the rumors untrue either. So to try and speak with any kind of factual authority is ridiculous (on both sides of the argument).

An "untrue" rumor or a "true" rumor. Now that is about the funniest statement I've heard. What makes a rumor true or untrue? Is a "true" rumor a "stated" rumor as in "someone said" so it must be true? or is an "untrue" rumor someone DIDN'T say it so it must be true? or false, or whatever?

Just so we are all on the same page here, this is the dictionary definintion:

rumor |ˈroōmər| ( Brit. rumour)
noun
a currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful truth : they were investigating rumors of a massacre | rumor has it that he will take a year off.

verb ( be rumored)
be circulated as an unverified account : [with clause ] it's rumored that he lives on a houseboat | [with infinitive ] she is rumored to have gone into hiding.

All you can say is that it is true there is a rumor. You can't make any statement about it's "truthfulness" though. In fact, you can just as easily assume that for any rumor it's exact opposite exist and is equally "true."

In the case of this (how many years has this one had legs?) Verizon iPhone rumor, the first part of the definition applies as in "This is a story or report of uncertain truth."

This dead horse again? This is worse than a hydra than never dies.

Seriously, if anyone is going to announce an iPhone to run on Verizon, it's going to be Apple themselves at their own event.

Big Red

You know what is really ugly about the Motorola Xoom?

The Verizon logo. It makes it look cheap.

One of the things that make the iPhone a pleasure to look at is the fact that there is no logo or text on the face of the product.

Yes, You are SO right, Verizon loves to put its logo on everything. What a drag. Still want that Verizon Red Iphone tho......

I doubt it's iPhone related, but my cousin who is a VZW employee said today that their corporate stores have received collateral for a January 12th device launch, but were not told what the device is. Does Apple have an event on January 11th?

there is the rumour that they will. How sick would that be? 1/1/11 announcement of verizon iphone and ipad 2? That would be so awesome in my opinion :D

Fairly glad I sold my iPad. Apple would really have to make enormous, drastic advances with iOS to really rival Honeycomb in terms of usability and functionality. I think on a small device like the iPhone and iPod touch, iOS is adequate, but really, on a tablet with so much more screen real estate to do work with, it's really mind-boggling while Apple didn't design a new OS, and why nobody really bothered to point out that they didn't. Got rid of my giant iPod touch (aka the iPad), and I'm going back to a MacBook Air, then waiting until Android 3.0 tablets hit the market. Bring it on, Google!

You did the right thing (after making mistake in the first place by buying it to start with)...

Talking about alternatives - yes, Android 3.0 looks like the way to go but don't forget about the RIM too!

PlayBook looks fantastic - and I hate it for that since I am not sure now which way to go - Android or RIM >_<

In any case - both are so much better than iOS it isn't even funny anymore...

the motorola xoom is legit. Plus Q1/Q2 i think verizon, sprint and at&t will be fighting over who has the best dual core phones, will apple get in the game?

Initially I thought I'd purchase the next generation iPad as soon as it came out. Unless the next iPad really blows the competition out of the water, I don't think I'll be able to make that purchase right away. My fingers are crossed.

Agreed, after seeing android 2.2 on the samsung galaxy tab I laughed at googles attempt at tablets, and considering the minor UI changes between 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc... I assumed 3.0 would be minor as well. BOY was I wrong, honeycomb looks amazing and REALLY is what a tablet OS should be. I mean android 2.2 is great on a phone, and easily beats iOS as an operating system (with the exception of the app store being WAY better than the market, and having way more good apps that actually run well), but just as iOS is garbage as a tablet OS, android 2.2 is also garbage as a tablet OS.

I was thinking I would go out and buy an iPad 2 when it's released, since I held off the iPad 1 knowing it just a big ipod touch with little practical use beyond it's novelty, and that the REAL functionality and high end OS tweaks would come with the second edition. But now after seeing honeycomb, and been using an android phone for 6 months, I seriously might just forgot the iPad and go with a tegra based android tablet.

These dual core multitasking beasts, with honeycomb actually designed to be coherent with a tablet, are REALLY showing me what I knew from the begging the tablets SHOULD and WOULD be. I'm really glad I was right all along about the original iPad and this second generation really being the prime start of the tablet take over. If google had released android 2.3 as their tablet OS, I would have been very wrong. I feel really good about google as a company and their general goals, direction, and motivations. They aren't hung up on profits like apple and they aren't going to purposefully cripple products to make an extra buck and extort us.

you read my mind basically haha
