This is pretty much the same damn phone!

Says that to whoever bought the SE or any "s" models.

It hit you this recently? Not since 2009 or 2011 or 2013 or 2015 or when people bought the SE? Just now? I can't wait when the 2017 iPhone 8 is released. Another one of these "I only judge the worthiness of an upgrade by external design" threads by 2019 because it looks the same.

Not dissing the OP at all. I think the OP came back to reality. Hypnotized for a bit before wising up that this is ho-hum, stopgap upgrade. Part tick but mostly tock. Most places that were quite barren are smart and wised up from this recycling nonsense Apple tends to get away with.

The stores that drew big crowds had buyers labeled sucker all over them. Just takes time for some people like the OP to take off the wool over their eyes.

I would agree with it being the MBr. I have had one since it's release and every time I see it I just marvel at what a design masterpiece it is.
They better change that design next year in the MBr or the "I have to have a totally and earth shattering newly designed phone every two years or I'm not buying" people will have a conniption. Lol
Also, better get used to the no headphone jack and the new Taptic home button, because they are also going to be part of the iPhone Superphone next year.

Same thing happened to me today. I have a 7+ on order with an Oct 4-10 projected delivery date. Was next to a Best Buy so I went in to look at the 7 & 7+ on display.

Pulled out my 6+ and compared it to the 7+. The new Home button didn't generate a reaction with me one way or the other. Camera does seem a little better.

After about a minute of fooling with it, I was underwhelmed. Now I'm seriously considering cancelling my order.

While in the store, I went over to the Samsung display. The Galaxy S7 Edge is a nice looking phone and fit in my hand better than the 7+. The display appeared much sharper to me than the 7+. Apple needs to step up their game, imo.

I'm too invested in the Apple infrastructure to consider a change to Android & Windows 10. So, I'll probably just keep the 6+ and wait another year.

I agree with other posts about the plateau in innovations. The diminishing incremental improvements make shelling out $800 a hard decision.

I honestly believe anyone with a 6s shouldn't upgrade unless they are just on a yearly upgrade plan. Since I'm on a 6 I think it's a very good upgrade for me.

I understand why people want a new design because they are use to Apple changing the design ever so slightly every 2 years. Honestly there's only so much they can do with what they have. I mean what are people wanting as far as design? The iPhone is still probably one of the best looking phones out there. They just so happen to have created a good design years before the competitors found good designs. I don't really see designs changing that much from anyone else either. I mean Samsung added glass to the back of the phones and got the edge which is nice. Apple did plastic/glass already and now they're on aluminum. Only thing that really changed in Samsung design is the edge and glass. Other than that their phones still look like galaxy phones. I just don't think anyone will be satisfied in the end. Yes Apple may make a full screen phone next yr with maybe a edge but then ppl will say they are copying if they have a edge or after the full screen what else is left. Smartphones are becoming hubs and eventually they will stop changing designs for them and we will be using something else to consume data.

You have your opinion but it's just annoying that some people will claim it's the same phone just because the exterior is mainly the same. A lot of things happened internally this yr which were huge. It's just like cars and motorcycles. My bmw s1000rr has had the same design for 4 years but because the engine has changed and it uses power better people still buy them. We will just have to get use to the design becoming stale until the next big thing drops.

So are you never going to update to iOS 10 or later? iOS 10 brings a lot of really great features.
Interesting how you assume. Never is your assumption.

Based on years of Apple experience, I find waiting till the second revision (ie: 10.2) allows one to avoid the bugs and problems of the original, like those whose phones were bricked.

Currently 9.3.5 is running well so I'm in no rush until a stable version of 10 is released. It's as simple as that.

The camera upgrade to the 7 Plus alone is worth the cost to me, even coming from a 6S Plus. I use the camera nearly everyday, often in lieu of my dSLR and mirrorless. I'm willing to pay the premium year after year for better quality photos.

People can't wrap their heads around the fact the iphone has reached maturity.

And the 10th anniv. rumor? Lol. How disappointed people will be if its a 7s.

Exactly. It's a fantastic phone. It's a few things that can be done but we all know Apple doesn't just change things for the sake of something new. They make sure it's actually a useful feature or if they can improve it better before they put it in their phone. I'm sure next yr they will definitely change the design somehow but people saying this super cycle crap need to chill because they may be severely disappointed.

I picked mine up earlier. I actually really love it and it feels newer than I expected.

Better screen, obnoxiously fast, love the home button, love the matte black. I'm satisfied for another year.

Managing expectations. That is my attitude toward Apple these days. I am increasingly underwhelmed by each keynote. My hopes are almost always dashed. Lol

Honestly... I did a pre order (Black iP 7plus 128 Gb) and I'm considering to cancel the pre order and keep my iP 6 plus. Ok, I use the camera a LOT, but does it worth spend 1009eur (I'm living in Germany) in a new phone?... does it worth wait for the next iphone?

As a newbie, I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks guys!

I have a 6S, so going from that to a 7 doesn't seem that much of an improvement. I also think the iPhone 7 physical design is poor - all they've done is moved the antenna lines, and, honestly, I can live with my 6S's antenna lines for another year until the iPhone 7s/8 comes out. ;) plus both the black colours are really ugly, and I refuse to have a white-front iPhone, just can't do it :p

Hey guys

So I'm coming here, not to be judge, not to be called stupid. I'm here because I need to vent! yes I Know its just a phone! I knew the phone wasn't gonna change much, but I'm just feeling very disappointed and I don't really have anybody else to talk about it so I can here to see if there were people who are thinking like me.

I pre-ordered the iPhone 7 Plus 128gb silver. I was very excited about this new devices even though I knew it didnt change much when it came down to design! I was okay with it so thats why I pre-ordered it! I decided to go to the store and check them out today since they had demos of the phone at my local Best Buy store.

The guy at the Best Buy store handed me the Jet Black iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus Black and as soon as I held it in my hands it just hit me! This is pretty much the same damn phone!. I have never skipped an iPhone release, I always get them every year, but after two years of looking at the same phone! I'd be spending all this money on the same freaking design! I compared the camera and I was honestly not impressed at all, Of course I'm not a professional photographer, but to me, I honestly see no difference in the quality of the pictures. The only feature that I really want from that phone is thats water resistant, that's it! I honestly feel disappointed and this is the first time I've felt this way. My phone is supposed to be delivered on Monday, but I'll be taking it back to the store right away. I realized my phone works just fine and I see no real reason to justify going through the trouble of upgrading. Anybody else feeling this way?

BTW, This is my personal opinion! I'm not judging anybody and if you love the new iPhone it's completely fine! I honestly just wanted to vent!

Thanks for reading!
Share your view, I think my ip6 still can serve me well until next year sept .

I would agree with the op. After playing with the phone overnight, I would say that most ppl wouldn't see much of a performance difference in their everyday routine. I do mainly calls, social media, text etc. I would say most ppl are like me. And wouldn't see much of a difference. That said, I am not going back to my old phone. Mainly cause I sold it already! lol

I got mine today... A black 7, 128 that I paid full price for and I am not all that impressed to be honest... It's probably going to be returned but I'll give it a few more days before deciding.

The new home button = Meh! Not diggin it at all..

Anyways, I am also anxiously awaiting the new Google Pixel phones so hopefully it will be better than this...

You should just get used to it. The next iPhone will likely not have one.

as soon as I held it in my hands it just hit me! This is pretty much the same damn looking phone!

Fixed. ;)

Why did you buy the 6s over the 6?

I actually bought (in addition to the 6 and 6s) an SE which looked like my 5s!

But boy the improvements...

As for the 7 over the 6s, it's a filler (softening up iPhone customers to no 3.5mm jack, no physical Home Button) but the improvements to the camera, water resistance (which also makes it more practical to take pictures and video in the rain, near water so much better), is worthy of at least some consideration.

And after a day or so getting used to the larger camera, the one behind the 6/6s just looks so... last year.

Here's my thoughts. Even if Apple drastically changes the design and it looks completely different. Unless Apple drastically changes the software the phone will feel the same after a few weeks. No one cares what their device looks like after a few weeks. It's old. I have had every Android flagship this year with all kinds of designs. It gets old. It's the software that changes how we use our devices.

We should be asking Apple to really change the software if we want change. That's my 2 cents anyway.

Well I went from a 6S+ to a 7 for a couple of reasons.

Camera - I always upgrade when there's a big improvement in the camera because it's pretty much the only camera I use and why wouldn't I want better pictures?

LTE - I don't know a ton about specs but I know there is supposed to be some improvement with LTE and where I live, I'll take any help I can get in that department.

I didn't really think much about speed, but I definitely notice that this phone is a little more peppy than even my 6S+.

Of course, I am happy to drink the Kool-Aid, and I'm not gonna deny it. I love my Apple products and have since my first eMac. I'm not jumping off the bandwagon anytime soon.

Well this thread may have swayed me....I have a 7+ coming, but just went to Best Buy and played with the 6S plus and the 7 side by side. I didn't see a whole lot of difference in screen quality or camera quality. The home button was OK i guess. Other than the black finish, the 2 phones are identical. But I never look at the back of my phone anyway. Also the 6S plus has an hour MORE talk time than the 7 plus. I talk on the phone all day, so for me thats big.

So I walked out with a 64GB space grey 6S plus. I will be selling my S7 edge. Like the size of the phone, and Android isn't bad, but the battery life sucks! The biggest thing I will miss is pinning Evernote notebooks to the home screen. I use Evernote for business and have 8 different notebooks that I'm in and out of all day. I sure wish I could do that in iOS. If someone reads this and know a way I would appreciate the input.

Maybe I'll change my mind when the 7 plus shows up but I don't think so...

You're right! You're absolutely right! I really couldn't have said this better myself! It's what we call, another clone phone.

Let that dopamine in your brain cool down. Don't follow up that hype.

The cameras are different. The new f1.8 aperture vs old f2.2 will allow the iPhone 7 to capture ~ 50% more light plus the addition of optical image stabilization in the iPhone 7 should make a significant difference in avoiding blur in poor lighting conditions.
