So basically, it connects to Wifi without the bottom plate Wifi antenna. Is there another Wifi antenna somewhere ? If so, where is the other antenna and what is the point of the bottom one ? Maybe to have better reception ? But it was working very well without it. This is so strange.
I think it also uses parts of the assembly near the rear ports area as antennas. If you look at the photo in BillGates' post further up, there are two additional connection studs beside the one you mention.

I did it just fine, it is a bit complicated. The only real pain was to connect the last antena back in, there is no room and it is too small. If you are allele blind like me, it will be trouble. Get a magnifier. But other than that it can be done. It is one of those things that if you need to do it again, you will do it in two minutes.

[MOD NOTE]
The thread has gotten derailed with VM discussions, please bring back on topic.

2020 i7.

Installed 64GB (32x2) G.Skill kit F4-2666C18D-64GRS. Works perfectly. No need to buy specially labeled “Apple RAM.”

Security Torx, you can stick a 2mm flat blade screwdriver in the head and twist. The center pin will snap off clean. Regular Torx then fits perfectly.

While it was apart, I replaced the heatsink paste with Coollaboratory Liquid Metal Pro. Also used thermal epoxy to attach a 2mm thick copper shim across the top of both heat pipes. This adds thermal mass to the heatsink assembly, which buys more time before max temperature. It also helps distribute the thermal load between the two heat pipes. Added over a minute to boost clocks before throttle using Intel power gadget. Stable, throttled average clock went from 3.3GHz to 3.5GHz. Did not test liquid metal and shim separately, so don’t know which mod had more effect.

Hello all,

This is a timely thread for me.

I'm thinking about upgrading my 2018 Mac mini (from 8GB RAM to 32GB RAM). 😀

Just get familiar with the procedure by checking the iFixit step by step guide and watching a couple of videos. And enjoy your future Mac Mini. :)

Hello icymountain,

Great advice!

I definitely plan to check out a bunch of videos and get the correct tools before installing the RAM upgrade in the 2018 Mac mini!

That is why I love my 2013 Mac Pro....it's so easy to upgrade the RAM and SSD storage!

Even though the 2013 Mac Pro did not meet the needs of many people, it's been the best Mac that I've ever owned. 😀
