It would probably catch on more universally if Apple Pay issuers issued physical NFC credit cards as well. But the first generation of those cards gained such a bad rap that there is no way they're going to issue them again. Apple Pay is most likely our best shot at NFC payments at this point.

I agree. Though I fear it will be a slow up hill climb (5-10 years). The more people demand Apple Pay the better off we'll be.

I don't think it's going to be slow.

I may be misunderstanding something here, but I was under the impression that due to new US law; retailers HAVE TO upgrade their Credit terminals by a certain date in the not-too-distant future. ALL of these terminals will most likely have NFC (the retailer may not enable it, but the feature will be there)

If the feature is there then it's a simple matter of enabling it. Also, from my understanding, accepting NFC is a non-issue for any retailer's "back-end", as the the "back-end" still just receives the card info just as it had came off the mag-stripe.

If what I heard is correct, then this has a good chance of taking off. The only thing I see that may hold this back is:

1) Consumer distrust (1 or 2 big breaches of security)
2) Back-room deals that intentionally stunt this (MCX & Current-C)
