Isn’t this basically what Siri on macOS 27 (currently beta) can do anyway? It seems better to use a local LLM designed by Apple for on-device use to do this, rather than sending your entire Messages dataset to a third-party cloud server like OpenAI.

How useful could this really be, anyway? The examples given look pretty lame.

Seems kind of useless.

But it may be useful for messaging certain entities. Another tool.

It don't think: "IT'S THE DEVIL'S WORK!", particularly, but I can't be sure.

How is it that we nearly all see this "AI" infection as a bad thing yet it's happening regardless?

Are we all just in an echo chamber that sees these developments as dangerous and a horrible invasion of privacy? Does everyone else love it? Am I going mad?

The tech investor class has pushed ALL the chips into the center on AI.

They are going to try to jam it down our throats everywhere and anywhere they can.

NOPE, THANK YOU, CREATORS OF CHATGPT. YOU AIN'T READING MY MESSAGES (Unless it is for legal reasons, of course)! Removing ChatGPT from the settings first things first!

Not only will I never put this garbage on my Mac, I also don't want to communicate with anyone who has given A.I. permission to read their texts. Holy **** A.I. is going to turn me into a luddite!

I used to use ChatGPT for fun and generally enjoyed it, but it seems like they get more and more shady everyday. I'm sure they have a database on me by now (as does Google), and there's nothing I can do about it. But I'll make damn sure I don't use it in the future.

Not saying I would ever use this, but all I can say is the voice recognition and overall logic understanding from these AIs are so much better than what Apple has come up with (Siri). Apple has all the money and resources in the world to build an LLM but they won’t and it’s kind of insane.

All my Siri queries nowadays just ask me if I want to ask ChatGPT and for some reason it even fails at passing on the query to ChatGPT leading me to go directly to the app.

I’m not on the ios 27 beta so I don’t know the improvements there.

I'm not using this for a variety of reasons. But I can see how a small company with limited resources could set up a pretty useful text help line using ChatGPT and their mac to service their customers.

Requires full access to contacts. No thanks. Yet what if a recepient of a message I send is using it. Then my message gets sucked up ? Can a sender opt out of a receiver using it ? Ugh
Just like years ago, what if my friends allow social media apps to upload their address book (with my info already on it).

It’s over!

Another one for the “thanks, but no thanks” brigade – it’s bad enough I missed a call the other day and when it went to Voicemail the ‘person’ couldn’t have sounded more AI if they’d tried 🥱
