Both the first and second generation Saab 9-3s are excellent options you should consider. You'll want to look for a Saab 9-3
Viggen or
Aero model, as (depending on what year it was) those are the high-pressure turbo variants that are pretty fast and also handle the best. The difference in power between the standard 9-3s and the Viggen/Aeros is quite tremendous, so don't think you'll get a "feel" for it by testing out a standard model.
Saabs traditionally have had very high torque ratings, usually higher than competing models. Remember, horsepower is only half the story. Torque is equally important, especially if you want that head-snapping acceleration.
These cars are also practical,
very efficient, roomy, luxurious, and nice to drive.
First Gen 1999-2002:
First generation was available as a 3-door, 5-door, and a convertible. It is essentially an updated 1993-1998 Saab 900. Viggens had 230 horsepower and 258 pounds of torque.
Second Gen:
Second generation was (is) available as a sedan, convertible, or "sportcombi" wagon. Aeros produce 210 horsepower and 221 pounds of torque.
All of them can be upgraded really easily (usually involving a re-tuned ECU for higher boost pressure) from suppliers like
Genuine Saab.
