Just get a Honda Civic coupe and put neon lights on top of the front dash. Put some racing stickers of Euro and Japanese car-parts brands nobody has ever heard of. Get a muffler that doesn't quite "muffle" the sound, and voila!

Mazda Miata is such a chick car.

I would look at the Honda s2000 if thats in your price range

EWWWWWWWWW hahahaha im happy you're being sarcastic cuz the whole fast and the furious look grosses me out

In your budget it has to be either a Porsche Boxster or Honda S2000, both are brilliant (but quite different to drive), but lets be honest even if you can afford one of these you won't be able to afford the insurance, if you can get a company to quote you on it. For a small sportster I love the Fiat Barchetta great drive and suitably quirky, followed by the Mk3 MR2 very precise handling and well built. I owned an MX5 1800 Berkley for 6 months and can honestly say it was one of the biggest let downs ever, very reliable though. If your looking at coupes it has to be the Alfa GTV 3.0 V6 followed by the Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo, neither handle particularly well but both look great and go pretty well. Forget hot hatches the handling is far too compromised, even on the best, the worst are just down right dangerous. Forget anything American, they've never made anything even slightly sporty.

Mazda MX5 definitely - I've had one for about year and it's totally reliable and relatively cheap to insure as well as a lot of fun. I'm female, but all the men I know want to drive it. Even Jeremy Clarkson loves it (mind you, who cares what he thinks?). Search youtube for a video of him reviewing the mark 2.

I bought a '91 Miata new, still drive it regularly, and I can testify with over 16 years driving one, it certainly IS a chick car. They're always asking me for a ride... ;)

Seriously, tho, pound for pound, there isn't a better roadster out there (it really isn't a true "sports car"). I was T-boned and pushed 75 feet sideways in a collision, and drove it home, no problems. It still out-handles most anything on four wheels under $40,000, still gets 32mpg average, and still is a total blast to drive every single time. There's a reason that all the major manufacturers tried to develop a knock-off or a "Miata-killer" and failed.

Cheap to own, cheap to mod, more fun than should be legal! :D

i would strongly advise against the fiat. sure its a cool looking roadster, but they cost a fortune to maintain and the engines are not built very well.

how much are you looking to spend btw? you said you are going to turn 18 so this would be your first car?

Just confirming, it was the same deal when I had one. I'm not sure that the newer ones would have the same effect, they simply aren't as cute any more since the flippy headlights went away and they stopped smiling :(

ok get this car haaaaaaands down. 5th gen (1990-1993) Toyota Celica GT-4 (or all-trac in us) or 6th gen ('94-99) Toyota Celica GT-4 (didnt sell in us but did in europe)

These cars are all wheel drive 2 door cars that are amazing. here is a sweet couple of sites

me and my bro would almost give a limb to get one but nope i have a 5th gen ccelica gts and he has a 6th gen celica st. however we are slowly but surely upgrading our cars to have similar performance as those gt-4s minus all wheel drive of course (although i have hear of only 2 fwd to awd conversions on these cars)

Both the first and second generation Saab 9-3s are excellent options you should consider. You'll want to look for a Saab 9-3 Viggen or Aero model, as (depending on what year it was) those are the high-pressure turbo variants that are pretty fast and also handle the best. The difference in power between the standard 9-3s and the Viggen/Aeros is quite tremendous, so don't think you'll get a "feel" for it by testing out a standard model.

Saabs traditionally have had very high torque ratings, usually higher than competing models. Remember, horsepower is only half the story. Torque is equally important, especially if you want that head-snapping acceleration.

These cars are also practical, very efficient, roomy, luxurious, and nice to drive.

First Gen 1999-2002:

First generation was available as a 3-door, 5-door, and a convertible. It is essentially an updated 1993-1998 Saab 900. Viggens had 230 horsepower and 258 pounds of torque.

Second Gen:

Second generation was (is) available as a sedan, convertible, or "sportcombi" wagon. Aeros produce 210 horsepower and 221 pounds of torque.

All of them can be upgraded really easily (usually involving a re-tuned ECU for higher boost pressure) from suppliers like Genuine Saab.

If in the US consider the Scion tC with an MSRP of $16,900. Sporty and fun, and insurance shouldn't be too much.

The Hyundai Tiburon is $16,995 in the US.
The Mazda MX-5 Miata is $21,200.
The Saturn Sky -- also a real roadster -- is $25,395.
The Nissan Z is $27,900.

I'm going to get a chrysler crossfire
£24,000 new or second hand from £14,000

Edit: The Crossfire is pretty cool. I've heard some people compare it to the TT (the original, not the current).

OP said SPORTS car, not the new V6 Mustang convertible (a.k.a. Daddy's Little Princess Car). :p

I'd take the Sky over the Solstice any day, simply because it looks better. The Z has the best performance of all those though.

Maybe a late '70's early '80's 911 (Not the Turbo... you'll only end up making holes in hedges, properly educating you in the subtle art of turbo lag in the process). ;)

The only sound that compares to a big-ass V8 is a boxer-4.

Where's the other 8 cylinders fella? :p
