Vision for less than 1000$
I advocated for the something month ago.

Brainless Vision + USBC to iPhone+ MagSafe battery = success

Even better, let it work with iPhone or Mac! That way anyone in the household can use it.

I'd need to physically connect it to my iPhone? No thanks! I could deal with over Bluetooth like how it works with Airpods/Watch etc. I don't want to use a cable for anything other than charging.

Also they want to narrow the FOV? It'll be like looking through empty toilet roll tubes.

Apple seem clueless as what to do with these headsets.

so what happen with visionOS, bulls***, will not a "cheaper" Vision, just a Gear VR from Apple, and for 1500-2000 no Ty,

See but that’s my concern right there is that this product was first viewed as something that was gonna usher in a new era of computing, but it might just fizzle out until we get something truly advanced and groundbreaking 10 to 20 years from now. I got to try it out and I liked it a lot but even I wouldn’t pay $4000 for it. And if only solution is to come out with a cheaper product, that’s extremely water down in a couple years That’s not a good sign. They should be fixing the complaints that people have for the product right now not watering it down and making it worse, just to come out with a cheaper product. Like the field of you was a complaint with the Vision Pro but they’re gonna make the field of you even worse with the cheaper version? Great so we get full on binoculars.

If some time traveler from 20 years from now told me that the Apple Vision Pro remains niche and it never really gained any traction. I wouldn’t be shocked.
Do you mean "field of view"?

It's really interesting how Apple is viewed when they launch new products vs other companies. Samsung and folding phones for example. While most understand there aren't many mainstream use cases for the devices, the technology is compromised and the products are expensive, Samsung are praised for being innovative and trying something new. Apple launches the AVP,
there aren't many mainstream use cases for the device, the technology is compromised and the product is expensive, Apple are mocked for creating the product.

Ya know what would be really cool. If whoever’s iphone its plugged into, it loads THEIR profile so we can finally have multiple users. Plugged into mine? It’s got all my settings, my apps, everything just the way i want it. Wife plugs it into hers? Same deal. It’s got all her stuff on it

Thats called just a company having a product and customers having opinions. No company with any product is immune to customers complaints and Apple users (me included) don’t get to have a victim complex as if only apple products get complained about. Apple and their 3 trillion dollar valuation aren’t an underdog i need to give a pass on. Especially on $4k products

Exactly. Let Vision be a dumb display like CarPlay. Let it be powered by an iphone.

Like the iPad, Apple's AR/VR headset is targeted to people who already own a Mac and/or an iPhone. It's just another way for Apple to squeeze more money out of their fan base without cannibalizing existing hardware sales.

But Apple has yet to produce the killer app for their headset. It's just a "me too" product in the marketplace.

Apart from the battery issue, I don't know what genius at Apple came up with the idea that giving a non-removable CPU would be a shot in the foot in such an expensive device with a long release cycle. iPads have M4, Air and MacBook Pro have M3, and Apple Vision Pro has M2. Who in their right mind will buy a $3,500 device with M2 on board at the end of this year, early next year? And so it must be connected to "something" with a cable. Why wasn't it connected to the Mac from the very beginning, without those stupid additional displays?

The great thing about CarPlay is it’s literally just a display for your phone. Got a newer more powerful phone? You automatically have more power for things without buying a new display. They should have done that for the vision. Hook it up to your phone and boom. You got the power thats only restricted by your phone model

Vision for less than 1000$

Before this launched, there was a lot of rumor about internal debate at Apple over this very issue. Cook sided with the ones that chose not to have an iPhone be the brains.

Seems they have discovered through the market that maybe that wasn’t the best idea.

If they want to cut down costs instead of just cutting the price and making not as much profit :rolleyes: then they could make these changes (just looking through the official specs on their site) which I feel would be a good compromise:

* Plastic build
* 90Hz display only
* stick with M2. the idea of offloading processing to iPhone is silly. It'll drain batteries very fast. Keep M4/5 for the next Pro model.
* perhaps don't include a battery at all. of course you could buy one if you want as an optional addition but stock config would come with only a usb c cable to plug into the wall or their mac.
* no dual loop headband
* maybe cut down the tracking cameras and microphones. they might be able to get good results with less?
* add a touch id sensor instead of using iris scanning. i don't know exactly how that tech works but i'm sure a touch ID sensor would be cheaper, right?
* Stick with WiFi 6 or only move to 6E instead of 7.
* do a ~1440p resolution display.
* manual lens adjustment
* no front display but obviously keep pass through camera. put an LED or something on the outside for people to know if you can see them or not.
* add support for glasses

with all that they can save money. if they want these headsets to be a success they need to accept lower profits for now to get the ball rolling.

make it less of a hassle for people to actually buy one. having to measure your face, go to a store, and buy expensive prescription lenses is just too much trouble. you want people to have as little barrier as possible between them and your product and make it more of an impulse/exciting and easy choice to make.

and of course...show off a good reason to actually buy the headset. connecting to your mac and watching movies is cool but it's not $3,500 or even $1,000 cool. I want a headset to be a complete replacement for my iPhone/Mac/iPad. Mostly iPhone. Imagine not having to carry a phone with you and having everything right infront of you. You want your product to be a success then this has to happen. People are addicted to social media/scrolling through tiktok etc. Look around and you'll see people staring down at their phones. What if all the stuff on your phone was easily accessible right infront of your eyes? I feel quite bad suggesting it but this is a way to get people hooked on your product. It's dystopian as hell but I could see so many people buying a headset if they could watch tiktok/youtube etc 24/7 without as much as effort.

I don't think Apple will be able to do it at a reasonable price point, no matter how much they cut out of it. Even if they cut 2/3 of the cost off, to get it down to 3x the going rate of a typical headset, it wouldn't have any features left to be competitive against the others.

The whole point of AR is the ability to move around and interact with the real world.

For a VR device, it's fine to be tethered because you can't see to move around, anyway. Not much point to an AR device if you're tethered to a desktop computer.

Oh no!!! Whatever will the haters who have been prematurely dancing on the products grave since before it was released do now? I say that in jest of course. We know what they’ll do. Double down.

A 3 trillion dollar company can also take a swing on a product they think has legs. If it doesn't gain traction it doesn't gain traction, that's just how innovation works.

As a consumer, I'd rather they used their money-pile and profits from cash cow devices to invest into new technologies rather than just sit on it doing nothing. If you don't want to buy a 4k device, don't buy a 4k device. Same with literally any other luxury product.

Ha Ha. Who cares? The (paying) majority won’t strap anything to their faces to accomplish / watch / experience something. The trend: short, quick consumption of media. Strap something too the face and better quality or quick glance on your phone with worse quality while doing something else but liberated… I think I know what wins at the end.

“We’re excited to bring the features of Vision Pro to even more people with our newest product, the Apple iEye. It’s rem-ARRR-kable and we think you’re going to love it.”

I would have gone with iPatch myself, but yours is more subtly nautical. ;)

So tethered to the battery pack and the phone? And you'll probably need a second battery pack to keep your phone from dying.

Soon we will need a new take on the old camcorder “backpack” except now the backpack will just be a huge battery

I personally think this device category is going to Flop. But... I welcome being proven wrong. I could see the mass market appeal of the iPod, iPhone, and iPad when they came out. Immediately. Vision Pro, I just can't see the mass market appeal for such a device. Niche market, yes. Mass market, not yet.

And imagine how the mass market will react to the lesser version that tethers to your phone and kills the already mediocre battery

AI not draining your battery fast enough?
Just tether up your Apple Vision Pro Air and your battery will be dead in an hour.

This is where it’s going anyway. Eventually your iPhone won’t even even have a screen. :cool:📱
