Makes the most sense and I get it’s a challenge to get the price down and at 1500 or around that people would buy I would think

Why is this guy promoted? Most of his predictions do not come true and he has a track record of deleting his bad predictions. Dude is a scam.
Not accurate

His Vision Pro leaks and iOS 18 was spot on. It’s far more right than wrong

I'd need to physically connect it to my iPhone? No thanks! I could deal with over Bluetooth like how it works with Airpods/Watch etc. I don't want to use a cable for anything other than charging.

Also they want to narrow the FOV? It'll be like looking through empty toilet roll tubes.

Apple seem clueless as what to do with these headsets.
More like they are trying to find ways to get things to be cheaper so people will buy

The Vision Pro is a monitor. That's it. It is, at-best, a monitor with built-in media consumption capabilities, like a TV, but without native apps from the most popular streaming services like Netflix or Amazon.

If you're tethering it to a mac or a phone, then you can just use the screen on the phone or mac. Even an iPad as a second monitor using Sidecar is still a cheaper, lightweight, more portable option, and one that can actually be used as a stand-alone device.

The problem with Vision Pro isn't the price. It's a product with no real use-case.

I'm surprised Apple haven't just created a Samsung Galaxy VR style headset where you just drop a super-spec iPhone Pro Max into it.

Actually the Sansung Gear VR was really amazing with a high pixel phone like Samsung S8.

...on a mac? o_O not possible since Apple prefer to scale things so the 5K SD and the 6K XDR display are the only screens that look "ok"... :( (I think a 4K display works just fine anyway, but not according to the purists...)
True… but still clearer than using athe vision pro as a monitor.

- Remove expensive CNC machined aluminium and use plastic.
- Remove the external display and glass front.
- Remove battery and storage case from the box.
- Remove M1 chip and let the iPhone handle all the compute power needed.

Vision for less than 1000$

They'll still find a way to charge $2,500 for it knowing Apple.

But yeah, the creepy-eyes front display has to go. And tethering it to an iPhone would actually convince more people to buy in to the Vision Pro for the long haul, since they won't be worried about it quickly going obsolete due to new M processors coming out every year.

If true, this is getting beyond comical.

The early VR, AR, MR hardware was tethered and required powerful computer hosts. Often also required external hardware for tracking. The industry then started moving to “inside out” tracking by putting cameras/sensors on the HMD itself, and started making the devices stand-alone. Apple started with stand-alone, and now thinks tethered to a host is the way to go?

Unless “spatial computing” includes some “magical” set of use cases (that I have yet to see, BTW) to make any of this a compelling proposition for a significant number of average consumers, it just makes Apple look like they don’t know their head from their *** in this market segment.

doesn't matter. this is a dead end still. I think they are still too early.

Granted if they get the price (down) enough a lot of people will buy one just 'cause.

But that's also a sign of a struggle to find real demand.

The tethering idea may not be so ridiculous. With the iPhone 16 and new models, they will all have at least USB 3.2 2x1 10 gigabit data transfer rates, and that could make it possible to offload some of the computational needs of the less expensive variant of the Vision Pro to a an iPhone connected by a USB 3.2 2x1 compatible cable with USB Type C connectors on both ends.

Give me high quality screens on the go when traveling. I would love to use it MBP, as some one who travels a lot. I am waiting for a cheaper AVP2.0.

Releasing this thing, 2-3 years before it was ready was pure vanity by Cook: he wanted to ensure the product line released under his tenure. It is:

1. Way too expensive
2. Too large, heavy and uncomfortable
3. Restrictive field of view (needs 140 degrees at least)
4. Lacks real pass-through AR (which may not be ready for another 4-6 years)
5. Not enough refresh rate
6. The M2 is nowhere near enough

Good step in right direction. Id prefer the option of a wireless tether or wired to a phone to save on battery/reverse charge the headset. And also the option of a stripped down headset that only acts as a display for work/entertainment without any extras to make cheaper and a costlier one with the AR/VR features and OS.

So far I just hear podcasters gushing about "hanging out with friends" (avatars of each other) remotely
Sounds like a reasonable use case, but not at all a must have or mainstream thing.

It's basically just nerdy people trying to figure out something to do with their $3500 door stop

That would quickly you'd just kill the iPhone battery
The AVP is essentially another phone and two more screens + speakers

So one phone battery to power:

2 phone processors
3 screens
and speakers on AVP

😧

I work on iPad Pro when i am traveling be it hotels or desks in conference rooms. iPad isn’t AVP2.0, I am not a big fan tiny screens. If Apple can still build AVP with high res screens, it will be amazing. iPad is more portable than my Mac book but still smaller screen.

I have had the Vision Pro since it was released. It has become integrated into everything I do when using a computing device other than a phone. It took awhile to understand how the Vision Pro just improved everything I did. I am able to wear it 4 to 6 hours a day, sometimes longer. I look forward to the upgraded version in 2026. I would not want a less capable device, I’m sure there is a market for such a thing. It’s just not me.

And I don't think anyone sees that front display as being useful.
I've heard people in proximity of users say it's useful to show attention and reaction of the user. Weird at first, but useful. I think it's important for the headset to always show that as long as others are around. The display should always be off though when no one else is present, to save battery.

Probably not to lower cost, but I think to make it more acceptable/palatable, it might be a good idea to change it to pixel/symbolic eyes--something less realistic that will still show attention/eye direction and subtle emotions.

You wear it 4 to 6 hours a day (or more)!?

That's pretty incredible

You are definitely an extreme outlier in this space I would say

Does this website have the memory span of a goldfish?

This was in the works and reported on like two years ago. It was phrased as an internal fight between teams resulting in the tethered version being cancelled.

This is the exact same misunderstanding by analysts as the “cancellation” of the AVP 2 that’s being reported.

Apple always works on several versions of a project internally. Setting one up for a release does not mean the cancellation of another.

I’m ok with that. Honestly, I thought the reason they went with a tethered battery on the AVP was to condition users for the “tethered to your pocket” lifestyle.
